I will give a no star rating if I…

I will give a no star rating if I could.
The Sakura rice cooker that I bought in October 2024 has not turn out to be of the quality that was claimed by Yum Asia. I am very careful to follow all the instructions when using the rice cooker. After using the cooker on only 3 occasions, the heating element of the cooker started to show considerable signs of wear. Also, the bottom of the cooking pan, where it is in contact the element, is already showing significant wear.
I was told by Yum Asia customer service that this is normal and they advised me to clean the cooking element with sandpaper. This is obviously unacceptable as cleaning it with sandpaper would cause scratching and make the matter much worse.
Yum Asia customer service also kept insisting that I had created the problem suggesting that I had not dried the bottom of the pan before use, even though I explained that I am very careful and always made sure that the bottom of the pan was properly dried before use. A good quality cooking pan should not deteriorate, in the way shown in the picture, after only being used three times.
I cannot recommend this rice cooker, or Yum Asia customer service, because the quality is clearly not up to the standard that is claimed by the vendor. I have been very disappointed by the company’s customer service. I found them to be very unhelpful and the information they gave, and the suggestions given, were neither appropriate nor useful.

Hi Febe, we understand your concerns, and we’re happy to provide some further clarification to you. Marks on the heating element of a rice cooker can occur if the bottom of the inner bowl is slightly wet during use. This is a common issue with all rice cookers that have heating elements.

To address this, using light sandpaper to clean the heating element is a widely recommended solution, and many manufacturers include this advice in their user manuals. We’d like to reassure you that your Sakura rice cooker is not faulty, and this issue is due to the bowl being wet during operation.

We aim to provide clear and prompt responses to our customers, and we’re sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with our reply.

Best way to cook rice

The product itself is fantastic, have to start with that right off the bat. It's the best way to cook rice that I've ever tried.

It's made cooking much easier and cheaper by far - There's no way I could go back to using the saucepan.

We ran into an issue with the couriers, but support was very helpful and responsive to the messages they received, especially over the holiday period - I can definitely recommend this company.

Gaslighting, lies, scam offers - AVOID

Just like some other folks here, ordered a big package (basically 15 kilos of rice, Bamboo IH rice cooker, and the remainder of bundles, along with two different spoons, etc.) during November 29, 2024.

On 4 Dec 2024, I've been pinged by them via mail saying that there was "a mix up with stock in our warehouse. We do not have the white spoon to ship with your order (YUM-WSS). We have therefore removed this from your order and refunded the amount to your original payment method. The rest of the order will ship as normal."

I was more than okay with that, it's just a spoon. After all, the remainder of my order would ship as normal, and I should get it by Xmas. However there was no additional communications whatsoever for weeks to come.

So on December 17th, I sent an email asking for an update about my order, and woke up next day to two automated emails confirming an order cancellation, and refund along with their customer support saying they contacted me on December 3rd to tell me there had been a mix up of stock and they no longer had rose colour Bamboo which I was offered another colour option (which never happened).

Besides never receiving emails to choose another colour, that would have been a second "mix up" for my single order. More importantly, their scripted support seems to have "forgotten" that a day later (December 4th as written above) I've actually gotten email from them about the missing spoon and that the ***remainder of the order would have shipped normally***. So that was a second lie. They also claim they sent a followup email on December 12th to choose a differently coloured cooker. But that claim is also false, email hasn't even reached the junk inbox in outlook. This constant lying irked me a lot, so I pressed further with support, seeing that the rose gold bamboo rice cooker was, in fact, in stock at the moment this morning. I politely asked if that's the case regardles of my previous order, thinking I might order just the standalone cooking unit this time to get it in time for holidays.

I was told by supprot that they received stock "this morning of Bamboo in all colours. Your order was already cancelled and refunded 4 days ago."

This was, as I have their receipts, a third lie. Order was cancelled a morning after me sending a message for status update (with exact timestamp from their system, not just date). And how utterly convenient they just got fresh stock just the moment of cancellation.

All this is plagued by continuous gaslighting from support that everything was normal on their system side, that the emails were actually sent in time, and I was communicated properly over everything - and that I've actually wanted to cancel just in the unfortunate period of four days before (while in fact refund was issued a night after my inquiry over the order status).

Everything is scripted exactly like Martin's review below (and they ordered on the same date as I did). Poorly scripted responses, gaslighting over how emails and refunds work, fake offers, that it's all on the buyer, and that they should check their email providers (lol).

Now, if they're being this scummy over us wanting to give them money in return for a product, I can't possibly want to imagine what the experience is like in case of warranty claims or something else. This is a simple case of a company offering discounts for black friday, and choosing buyers for likely individual unbundled items outside of the discount period, in turn saving them thousands of euros. Scummy enough for me, but you make your own decision.

Update for the reply:
"we did communicate these issues with you on several occasions with no response from you"

There was no "several occasions". There was not even a *single occasion* beyond me asking you literally a day ago about the status of my order. Everything from that point onward was a lie after a lie.
You can twist into a pretzel trying to justify this awful behavior and not taking accountability instead of blaming your customer. Alas you're caught in yet another lie. How to ruin your relations within 24 hours. Impressive feat. Will be taking my hard-earned money elsewhere.

Hi Denis, it was a simple mix up with stock for both items. We have had a problem with our stock sync working (between our warehouse and our website) correctly and oversold the stock that we had available. It's as simple as this - we are not lying, we are not gaslighting and we did communicate these issues with you on several occasions with no response from you.

Poor customer service and refusal to take responsibility

I am extremely disappointed with Yum Asia and their lack of accountability as a seller. My experience:
• I ordered a rice cooker during a promotion via Amazon.
• The product was delivered damaged because it was poorly packaged and thrown by the delivery driver (DHL).
• Despite the damage being entirely beyond my control, Yum Asia refuses to take responsibility.

According to consumer protection laws, the seller is responsible for ensuring the product is delivered in good condition until it reaches the buyer. Yum Asia, however, insists they are “just the seller” and deny any responsibility, even after Amazon explicitly stated that Yum Asia, as the seller, should address my complaint.

I returned the damaged product and placed a new order but had to pay a higher price because the promotion had ended. My request for compensation for the price difference was repeatedly rejected, even though the issue was caused by their logistics and packaging process.

The lack of customer care and unwillingness to resolve issues is unacceptable. I strongly discourage others from purchasing from Yum Asia as you will be left to deal with any problems on your own.

Hi Mario, as we have explained to you on several occasions, Amazon was responsible for shipping the order to you. They have full responsibility for the shipping and delivery, not us. Yes, we are the seller however your order was shipped by Amazon from stock they hold in their warehouse, we have no control over Amazon and how they ship our products and this is not our logistics and packaging process, it is Amazon's logistics and packaging process. We do not ever ship items without an additional shipping box, it was Amazon who have done this. You have already received a full refund for the original order, this was Amazon taking responsibility for the poor delivery service that they provided.

It is extremely unfair for you to hold us to account for a shipment that we had no hand at all in shipping or packing. Your complaint should be lodged against Amazon who actually shipped the order to you, not us who do not control what Amazon do or how they ship orders.

Your issue is already fully resolved by Amazon providing a full refund and there is no further resolution available in this situation.

I should pay for their mistake

I ordered a Bamboo UMAI Induction Heating IH Ceramic Rice Cooker on November 29, 2024, and the payment was taken from my account the same day.

On December 7, 2024, I reached out to their chat robot to ask for an update on my order. The next day, I received a reply stating there was a mistake in their stock, so they couldn’t fulfill my order. They claimed to have sent an email on December 3, 2024, asking if I wanted the cooker in a different color. However, I checked both my inbox and spam folder and found no such email. I replied, noting this and stating that I would like the cooker in a different color.

After this, I heard nothing back. I sent the same reply to their chat bot again, only to be told that my order had already been cancelled and that I could place a new order for an additional 30 euros.

This is a truly horrific way to communicate with potential customers.

---
Edit/Clarification: They cancelled the order the day after I reached out. Also, the refund is ~2,3 euro short due to exchange rate. So I already paid for their mistake even without spending additional 30 euros to place a new order.

Edit after response from Yum Asia: You state that the cancelation process were started on the 6th of December, yet I only received the information together with the response on my inquiry on December 8.
I have received both the order confirmation and all responses from your customer support, but the legendary mail you supposedly sent is nowhere to be seen. Maybe you should check your system if it sends correctly.

The worst part is that I did respond promptly that I were looking forward to get the cooker and I didn't care which color it were. I did suggest to get it in black instead.

It truly seem like a scam that you cancel my order I bought at a discount and then refuses to sell it to me at the same price (which I did ask your customer support for, such that I can place a new order).

Hi Martin, thank you for reaching out. I’d like to clarify the timeline and address your concerns about your recent order.

On 3rd December, we sent you an email regarding an issue with your order. As we hadn’t received a response from you by the end of 6th December, your order was automatically cancelled, and the refund process was initiated. On 8th December, you contacted us through our ticketing system, and we promptly replied within a couple of hours to explain the situation again.

We noticed that on 12th December, you submitted two more tickets inquiring about your order. It seems you may not have received our earlier communications. Our records show that the emails were sent, so we recommend checking with your email provider to ensure our messages are reaching you.

Regarding the refund, we understand your concern about the amount. Please note that we can only refund the exact amount that was initially charged to your card. If your bank account is in a different currency or if exchange rates have fluctuated, this may affect the final amount you receive. Unfortunately, we don’t have control over exchange rates or any fees imposed by your bank.

We truly value your understanding and are here to assist if you have further questions or need additional support.

I have a zojirushi I've been using for about 5 years now. Incorrectly I have washed the rice in the pot so the enamel has been damaged over the years.

Reached out for a spare part. Very costly but smooth process.

Spare part received was dented so I didn't want to use it and reached out again. A new one was sent out free of charge. Refreshing to see a bigger company solve curveballs in a polite and timely fashion. All the best to Louise and the support team!

Excellent service, good product.

After doing a research for rice cookers and the high price of a Zojirushi, I stumbled upon a YumAsia Bamboo rice cooker. The rice is perfect every single time. After 1 wash of rice in the bowl it got damaged, I didnt know its not allowed to wash rice in the bowl since you can damage the coating. After sending a photo to the customer service, they were lenient enough to send me a new bowl free of charge even though it's not within the guarantee. Great service!

Perfect first time

Ordered just after midnight making that Friday morning, delivery stated 2-3 working days but my rice cooker arrived the next day on the Saturday. Made the test batch and then used it to make dinner that night and so far I am really impressed, perfect fluffy rice first time. Bought the Kumo YumCarb, it fits nicely on the worktop and really easy to use. Really happy with my purchase so far. Would definitely buy from again.

Great customer experience

Haven’t yet used my panda mini rice cooker but what I must attest to is the customer service at Yum Asia. They used DPD for delivery which is a fantastic courier service and very reliable and thankfully that meant my new rice cooker arrived in a matter of two days at no extra spend.

I also found their emails with dispatch updates amazing and haven’t had such great service like this in a long time. I ordered the rice cooker direct from Yum Asia because it was £20 extra on Amazon but in the end, I’m glad I went direct to them as the service was worth it too.

Looking forward to testing out my new rice cooker!

Hi, we realise this is frustrating for you, but it is completely outside of our control. We don't say anywhere on our website that we deliver to all of Europe, in fact the countries that we deliver to are very clearly explained on our delivery page. We deliver to most countries in Europe with some exceptions.

Shipping to Switzerland is very expensive to begin with at €35 and on top of this there is an additional €35 charge for customs paperwork. What was happening before we suspended shipping to Switzerland was that every shipment was being returned to our warehouse due to paperwork. We have tried with 3 different couriers and the same thing happened and the couriers insisted that the paperwork was correct and we couldn't find out a reason for the returns, even writing to Swiss Customs.

So when this happens, not only do customers get angry, but we are also charged the €35 shipping, the €35 paperwork fees and then a €35 return shipping fee, so costing us €105 as a company per shipment. As you can imagine, we cannot continue making this kind of loss on shipments, so we had to suspend shipping to Switzerland completely.

Rice rice rice and more rice. Our household loves it. With curries, for stir fries, with chili or stroganoff. We love it all. Yumasia sells some of the best rice on the market and even better than our local Asian store. We have their jasmine, basmati and koshihikari rice which all turn out well.

Received a Sakura rice cooker for my family of 4. It took a bit of time to realise that you have to hold the start button to activate the cooking process. I had returned a previous Sakura thinking it was broken but it was my stupid fault for not reading the instructions correctly. The long hold is necessary as a safety feature which stops you accidentally starting the cooker. Very cool but I do feel for sending the first cooker back to Amazon thinking it was faulty and now I realise it wasn't. Yum Asia were lovely and understanding. We just bought 5 bags of rice in the hope that some way it makes up for my lack of care reading.
Thank you again Yum Asia. We will be back to your store soon.
