Zappyrent steals deposit

Zappyrent said they would transfer my deposit a whole month ago; I still haven’t heard from them since. They ignore my calls and e-mails. Stay wary! They stole €700!

UPDATE: After 5 months, many non-answered e-mails and calls, I finally got an answer, and a week later I did get my deposit back. Still weird that it only happened 5 months later and after I had to threaten with legal measures.

Worst rental experience in my life

Worst rental experience in my life. As soon as I paid their fee and paid 10 months rent in advance, everyone at ZappyRent disappeared. They did not put me contact with the landlord (she had to find me on LinkedIN), not even after I signed the contract; I NEVER received her contact info from ZappyRent. The apartment building conditions were not specified in the description (the pictures don't do it justice), and the apartment had mould a few days after my move in date, but because it did not appear within 24 hours, my claim was dismissed. ZappyRent has not helped me at all and it is a nightmare to get a response from them. I let them know about my problems about 1 month ago, and still no solution has been given to me. They take very long to respond. The 1 person that does respond always delegates to her team and the communication is lost. They only responded when I published my bad review, and still disappeared and haven't answered again. I've been sending emails every 2-3 days and still no answer. DO NOT USE THIS AGENCY, I have paid about 2,200 euros in fees (an initial 1,200 euros and then additional 100 euros every month) and gotten 0 help!

Each tenant has 24 hours to notify us of any problems, in your case we received an email from you after 7 days.

In view of the issue, even though the timeframe in our terms and conditions has passed, we have accepted your request and are working for you to resolve it.

We point out, however, that photos of the building are shown in the advertisement for transparency.

Furthermore, we never ask for 2 months' fees, but in Milan there is 1 month's fee (in your case €1,200).

Worst rental experience in my life

I really can´t undestand the many good reviews here;
My experience as a tenant at Zappyrent was thoroughly bad. All the criticisms will probably not even fit into this form. Therefore, in a nutshell:

The appearance of the website suggests transparency. But in the booking process, for example, is not pointed out the horrendous cancellation fees. Information about this is only in the small print. (Other fees are only mentioned in the rental contract, which you get but only after booking. If one does not want to agree to this then, one loses again the previously paid deposit. A classical dilemma, in which one is led here consciously).
Zappyrent also advertised a discount for Polimi students, which was not granted to me.

Three days after booking was my move-in date, the apartment was not as stated a 6-person shared apartment but a 9-person shared apartment with 8 rooms. The apartment itself was completely dirty, of the two bathrooms was if at all only one usable. Zappyrent: "The residents themselves are responsible for this". (The flatmates, for the most part, had moved in only a few days before, so were not responsible for it). The rooms could be locked, but all room keys had the same profile....
My room itself turned out to be not move-in ready even by any stretch of the imagination. I had a pissed! Mattress with an unmistakable black-brown dust layer over it. Later I also found used!! Condoms under the bed. I don't need to talk about the stench....

So I didn't want to move in, I was told by Zappyrent that I would not get back both deposit and processing fee (together over 1300€) in that case. This is hair-raising, because Zappyrent pretends to be a supposed mediator who keeps the deposit safe until everything is settled with the landlord. Later it turns out that the landlord is real, but Zappyrent rents the apartment himself and only sublets it to his clients. In my opinion totally misleading!

Because of the high deposit I was forced to stay. Zappyrent initially offered me to exchange the mattress with the one from an unoccupied room, but it was in a similar condition. Finally, I had to clean it at my own expense. Not even the minimal promise of a mattress cover given to me was kept by Zappyrent.

And so is Zappyrent's "customer service". After I was in the apartment, I tried for almost a month to reach them via their 3 email addresses, their own web chat, Whatsapp and via phone. Never a response. When I finally sent the contract cancellation, the reply I received was, that they said it was unfair to take time and attention away from other customers to reply to me. "In case you weren't aware, we had already replaced the mattress, which no one had complained about until you arrived, and we had also bought you a mattress cover since you kept complaining." Two blatant lies.

The refund of the deposit also turned out to be extremely lengthy. For months I was put off again and again.

By the way, I was invited by Zappyrent for an evaluation on Trustpilot. But still before moving in. One wonders why...

For registration fees, they are included in the ad where applicable in addition to the closing of the contract. They are also included on the lease that is signed by all tenants before moving in.

It’s only place where I could normally..

It’s only place where I could normally communicate with assistance and rent house without worrying about safety or all the unnecessary paperwork. I used service several times and nothing unexpected happened yet. I rate it with 5stars as Zappyrent was most liable website in Milan that I could find. Negative side is that sometimes at first when you write mail they are not responding on time and you have to resend it several times, however whenever specific agent will be attached to you, you won’t have communication problems anymore. Agents are polite and can communicate in english. They are willing to help you to find most suitable apartment for you in terms of place, price range and other requirements. I highly recommend it.

Great & Personalized Customer Service

I used ZappyRent to find an apartment in Milan and they’re personalized service made my experience way easier and enjoyable. Isabela Fernandes helped me so much in finding an apartment and she understood exactly what I was looking for!! They were very understandable of my needs and were very attentive, responsive and nice. I recommend their service if you’re looking for a stress free apartment hunt!!

I have rented out a house with…

I have rented out a house with Zappyrent and everything went super smooth.
They have always replied to my messages super fast and did the impossible so I could have everything ready upon my arrival!
If anyone is looking to move to italy, I 100% recommend Zappyrent

I have dealt with over 10 competing…

I have dealt with over 10 competing companies and ZappyRent and the team have been wonderful to have help me in time of need. With limited timeframes the team was able to secure apartment very quickly. I would suggest using them to anyone looking for a place.

A great choice

I was searching for a room in Milano for an Erasmus exchange. I needed the accommodation with very short notice and didn’t have the chance to go to Milano beforehand. Zappyrent was recommended to me by the PoliMi website. I was able to find a great room there at just the right location and at an affordable price. Their agent was very helpful and friendly. He even showed me the whole flat via an online meeting which was just perfect for me.
I can therefore highly recommend this website and would definitely use it again!

The single greatest accomplishment in…

The single greatest accomplishment in rental service history. This may even be the greatest single service to exist on this planet. In my time using Zappy rent, I've been cured of cancer, had a baby, won the lottery, and never have to talk to this guy named Oomung again. He also uses zappy rent but is incompetent and weird.
