This is an email that I have sent explaining the disappointing service:
I am writing to formally complain about the service my mother received under her breakdown cover and to dispute the charge of over £100 that has since been proposed.
I purchased this breakdown cover for my mother because I work full time and wanted the reassurance that, should she experience any problems with her vehicle, she would receive the assistance and recovery service that I have paid for.
Last week, her car would not start. She contacted your company on Thursday and was advised to call back on Friday so that, if necessary, the vehicle could be recovered to her garage.
When your technician attended, he advised my mother that there was nothing wrong with the battery but that he could not start the vehicle. My mother then requested that the car be recovered to her chosen garage, as she had been advised this would be covered. The technician refused, stating that he had only been booked to provide roadside assistance and not recovery.
My mother contacted your administration team while the technician was still present. They confirmed that this information was incorrect and that the vehicle should, in fact, be recovered. The technician then changed his explanation, stating that he could not recover the vehicle because the car park was too small.
This explanation is difficult to understand. The car park is regularly accessed by bin lorries, ambulances and removal vans without issue. Furthermore, had manoeuvring space been required, neighbouring residents would have willingly moved their vehicles if asked.
As a result of your company's refusal to recover the vehicle, I had to purchase jump leads, take half a day's annual leave from work, travel to my mother's home and start the vehicle myself. She was then able to drive it directly to her garage, where she was informed that the problem was, in fact, the battery—contrary to the technician's assessment that there was nothing wrong with it.
I therefore find it wholly unacceptable that, after failing to provide the recovery service included within her policy and after an apparent misdiagnosis of the fault, your company is now seeking to charge my mother over £100. The failure to recover the vehicle was not due to any action on her part but rather your technician's decision not to carry out the recovery.
I ask that this charge is withdrawn immediately. I would also appreciate an explanation as to:
Why the technician advised he had not been booked for recovery when your own staff confirmed that recovery was authorised.
Why recovery was refused on the grounds that the car park was inaccessible when larger vehicles routinely access it.
Why the technician concluded there was no battery fault when the garage subsequently diagnosed exactly that.
This experience has caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience to my mother, who is in her seventies and relied on the breakdown cover for reassurance and assistance. Instead, the service she received fell well below the standard that any customer should reasonably expect.
I look forward to your response and confirmation that this charge has been cancelled.

Could speak to someone on the phone . In all honesty with these things you don’t know how good they are until you need them . So far so good .

Actual staff (particularly the "rescuers") were fine, but way too much "preamble" when you're a solo (semi disabled) female with 2 dogs in the car on the (narrow) hard shoulder on the M11 on a scorching hot day... took way too long for my breakdown to be logged and then transferred to someone would could actually DO something ... then to find I had to shell out over £380 before ANYTHING would happen ... much confusion over cost...and up to sa 2hr wait.... basically the policy did NOT cover what I really needed it to.

I would NEVER recommend this company. Single mum broken down whilst away in UK in tears and would not help at all and showed no empathy.
I was scared and worried eventually after been cold transfered to a lady on the insurance admin team they arranged a manager to call me back. Had to try and find a local garage to take my car which were all fully booked and wouldn't take as dont know what was wrong with it as they wouldn't send anyone out. This is all because I mentioned recently having spark plugs replaced and they persumed this was reason Id broken down without checking. The reason I'd broken down was due to fuel not getting to the engine. In the end arranged my own recovery. Still awaiting a DSAR request and have an ongoing complaint.

Absolutely excellent! This company shows loyalty to their existing customers. This is the first insurance company that I've never had to leave after 12 months because of overpriced, unfair quotes.

When I got my renewal for breakdown, it had risen quite dramatically. I then used a comparison sure and got same cover for third of price. I phoned to cancel original renewal and person was so helpful, confirmed cancellation by email and acknowledged my new cover. Good experience, apart from doing better deal for new customers!!

Really good service. I had a flat tyre and someone come to change the tyre within 45 minutes.

Easy process to purchase the breakdown cover for a very reasonable price and the cover it affords is very good too. Just hope I don’t have to use it

All a con!
I made a claim for a clutch replacement costing over £500, but it was rejected because I hadn’t had a full service within the required period. I don’t understand what a routine service has to do with a clutch failing, especially when the clutch is considered a wear-and-tear component. I ended up paying the repair bill myself despite paying for the cover.
In my opinion, customers should read the terms and conditions very carefully before buying this warranty, as there may be requirements that could prevent a claim being paid.
Ps. Surely you know who I am so I will not email you! You had the opportunity to offer at least half of the payment but no!!!
