Classic bait and switch

Classic bait and switch

I am writing this to warn other expecting parents about this company’s billing practices.
I explicitly ordered and paid for the basic (lowest tier) service. Without my knowledge or consent, they shipped me the collection kit for the highest/most expensive tier.
After the collection was picked up, I received urgent messages stating that unless I contacted them immediately to "opt-out," I would be automatically upgraded and billed for the premium service.
This is a textbook "bait and switch." They rely on the fact that you will use the kit they sent you, and then try to force an upgrade after the fact.
To make matters worse, they pressured me with these administrative hurdles while my wife was in the ICU. Using a medical emergency—a time when parents are exhausted and vulnerable—to try and slip hidden fees past customers is unethical and predatory.
While they eventually agreed to honor the original price I paid, no customer should have to fight to avoid paying for something they never ordered. If you use this company, check your invoice and the kit they send you very carefully

Be forewarned, Do not trust AmeriCord registry

Be forewarned. I wish I had never used the AmeriCord registry!
Medically, AmeriCord plausibly altered the process in which I could improve my health and wellness.

From the very beginning what I was told and promised did not happen.
I told AmeriCord from the very beginning due to the immediate medical intervention the cord needed to be Cryobanked immediately after birth according to the medical advice I received, to have the optimal health benefit.
I told AmeriCord if they can't process as I requested then I have an alternate.
I was assured that everything could be done as requested and even more!!!

They did not pick it up from the hospital as promised (They did not show up immediately as they promised) and what I was told.

Time sensitive!
To ensure the best quality of stem cells, the cord should be transported to the blood bank immediately and !completely processed within the 48 hour window! I was told 'to call' immediately after the 'baby is born'. ~ AmeriCord would have it picked up 'immediately'.
AmeriCord did not pick up the package from the hospital for over 8 hours after the birth.
The baby was not born in the same state the company resides in. The company is in Jersey.
According to current medical practice, you have no more than a few hours after birth to collect cord blood for cryo preservation, as the optimal time for collection is immediately following delivery, ideally within the first few minutes after the baby is born.

At first when I received a call I was surprised and felt okay.
The company stepped up and gave me the perception they were taking responsibility for a major screw up and promised that from that point forward that I would have (I was promised) direct access to one particular person.
I was extremely disappointed it did not turn out as promised. It did not turn out as guaranteed.
I called the company multiple times and emailed as well. They tried to make it seem as though I was being a problem but in reality...
I was, more casually known as, 'ghosted'. The company was evasive, non-responsive, and uncommunicative. Not only to me but also to the doctor who 'was: going to give me, stem cell treatment. Because of their lack of assistance I didn't get the treatment.
It's exhausting.
AmeriCord registry, plausibly altered the process in which I could improve my health and wellness.

To be honest! I think they totally screwed up in the processing and they don't want to admit it.
They gave me a refund of what I paid ... And they promised to bank it for one year. I was guaranteed everything was processed as promised but to date I still have not received any of the paperwork that I've asked for to show that it was processed as I was told it would be and as I was promised it would be.

To date, still nobody will respond to any telephone call or email that I send.

Do not trust this company!!!!!!!!!

Easy to use and nice contact

We decided to use Americord after we have had some experience with another company abroad.

The order process with Americord was very easy. The kit arrived early enough, and the description for the hospital was good so it was no problem to use the kit after delivery. Pickup was arranged during night, so 5 hours after our pickup call a courier arrived. We hat some trouble with the payment process due to our credit card company, but with one call to a personal assistant at Americord it could be solved.

Great experience!

Exceptional service

Very flexible and efficient. They follow up with you, plus send you the kit with all instructions for you and your physician. The courier collects the kit and your cord tissue cells and placenta are further evaluated by Americord's quality control. If the sample passes their requirements, everything is saved and stored and you get a confirmation email with everything in detail that was stored. I am very happy I chose Americord for my baby and myself.

Affordable, efficient and easy

Besides that americord makes this service actually affordable by offering everything in 24 payments, everyone who I've spoken with at Americord seems to be very invested in providing excellent customer service. They seem to truly care about the customer which Instills confidence. Even when there was a little mistake (they sent an email saying the sample had been stored and I was still pregnant) the representative on the phone explained that it was just a computer glitch and quickly maintained my confidence. One thing I love it they make it easy. They tell you exactly what to do. A courier picked up the sample before I even made it out of recovery to my room. Another thing I love is that communication through email and text was prompt and thorough. They told me exactly when my sample was stored and promptly sent a certificate of storage. I'm very pleased. I'm
Glad americord has found a way to make this service affordable and approachable for those of us who would rather save the thousands up front for an extra month of maternity leave or for college savings for instance.

Great Price and Pretty easy!

I love the idea of being able to pay for 20 years up front for a much lower price than other places. As I paid for the service, my husband had to do all the processing when it came time to call and have the box picked up. My only complaint was that the person on the phone sounded as if they had no idea what was going on. We called the number and filled out everything online. I was under the impression that they could pull all that information up online and all we had to do was quickly call and give them our name and let them know it was time for the box to be picked up. My husband was on the phone for about 15 minutes giving them the same information that was already completed online. As newly parents and having to deal with lots of other things going on, we were hoping it would have been a little easier.

Overall, the services were great and there was quick communication regarding questions. The box was also quickly picked up after notification and an email regarding the lab results of everything was provided very fast. I am still very happy with the service and plan to use them for our next child.

Didn't arrive to pick up cord blood when they said they would

We were given a time for when the cord blood would be picked up and the courier didn't arrive when they said they would. It was a bit of a hassle to find out when someone was actually coming to pick up the baby's cord blood.

Reply from Americord

Dear Christine:

This is Martin Smithmyer, the CEO of Americord. I apologize for the fact that the courier did not arrive when they said that they would. I understand completely that the hours after birth are precious and, for that reason, it is critically important that our service lives up to your expectations and our high standards. That clearly did not happen in your case. We contract with an outside vendor to provide our courier services so that we can provide clients with service in all fifty states. We have spoken with the vendor and passed along your dissatisfaction and reiterated to them the importance of ensuring that pickups are made on schedule and with as little inconvenience as possible to new parents. I have also asked our client services department to streamline further the process by which we communicate with parents about pickup times and any potential delays. If you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact me at (888) 652-5631.

Thank you once again for choosing to bank with Americord.

Martin

No issues, good service

The kit was standard enough that the medical team had no issues with it. The instructions were clear for parents too. The courier showed up when they said they would and boom, all got done as promised. Can't vouch for the storage part yet because we haven't used it (and hopefully won't need it). Price was also very good compared to other options.

Easy process

We're so happy we chose Americord to store our sons chord blood. From the beginning the customer service was so helpful. Because I was experiencing some complications they shipped us the kit right away in case we went into preterm labor. Great experience from beginning to end.
