Joss and Craig from Amey were very professional and very helpful when my car broke down on the motorway on Wednesday, 1st April 2026. They waited with me, parked behind me with hazard lights flashing,... See more

Wasted Time Off - Strange Cards In Door
Took half a day annual leave to be in for the smart meter installation slot 08:00 - 12:00. Went out front to put a bottle in the bin at 08:48 and saw 2 postcards being gently held by my letterbox on the outside. They hadn't been posted through, just quietly slipped in the first inch or so. The 2 cards (one for gas and one for electricity lol) said Amey had called to fit my smart meters but I wasn't in. Why would they turn up just to deliver 2 cards (apparently at 08:35) saying I wasn't in??
Not only am I furious at wasting time off, but I'm totally confused as to what their motives could possibly be. I don't have a door bell, and I can even detect the stupid cat scratching the front door, so don't tell me they knocked. Strange and very annoying.
Pestered about a fictitious appointment- says a lot about their admin efficiency
Had a call from Scottish Power asking me to ring Amey to have a smart meter fitted. I did but was told they were fitting 1st generation smart meters, despite it now being 2018. The government stated that companies should be fitting second generation smart meters towards end of 2017. 1st generation meters often aren’t “universal” to different power suppliers and can make it more difficult to switch. So I said “no thank you.” So why have I been pestered by three emails and 2 text messages over the weekend, telling me their engineer will fit my smart meter today? Eventually, After much messing around, wasting my time, I got through to customer Services where a young man cancelled the fictitious appointment but was not particularly repentant on behalf of his company for wasting my time.
A perfect example of unethical profit driven corporate scum
Amey PLC's continue to push an agenda of destroying thousands of Sheffield's trees to deliver their contract with Sheffield City Council on the cheap. The result is Sheffield residents being milked for profit as their city is destroyed by unethical profiteers.
Most recently Amey employed contractors to sneak through Sheffield's streets in the early hours of the morning. These contractors were employed by Amey to cut down trees that had been decorated with Christmas lights to raise money for people suffering from terminal illness two weeks before Christmas. Unethical and uncaring.
Appalling
Appalling. 2 now shows so far on behalf of Scottish Power. Said they couldn't get access, despite me waiting in.
The box is visible from the front of the property. 1 x 2ft gate with no lock on it. Hardly a task for Bear Grylls to enter.
Complete lies across the board. Still don't know when they will actually turn up.
Absolute shower.
Absolute shower.
They think that in 2017 it is still acceptable to lie to the customer.
I had arranged for somebody to be at my property between 1pm and 4pm as per my slot for smart meters to be installed.
To get a call at 2:15pm stating that the 'Engineer had just called in sick' is the biggest load of cr*p I have heard in my entire life. I let the poor lad on the phone know this.
I've since looked into your 'response rates' and how many appointments have been cancelled/actually done over each 3 month period and was shocked at how many appointments you do not attend.
You are, without a doubt, the poorest excuse for a company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.
If Scottish Power only use your poor services, I will be moving myself over to another provider once out of contract ... And the first question I will have for them before moving to somebody new is 'Do you use Amey for your contract services?'..... Can you guess what my response is likely to be if they say Yes .......
I hope that your large contracts start to see you for who you really are and pull the plug on you completely.
Appalling customer service …
It appears that the customer service from Amey depends greatly on the particular engineer that attends onsite.
We had a meter move booked weeks in advance, and I had to coordinate builder / distributer / electrician and electricity supply company to do their work on a given specific date.
The local builder and electrician did their work ontime and to very good standards. Northern Powergrid came and jointed the cable to the new meter box so by 10am we were just waiting for the supply company to move the actual meter.
The first engineer from Amey came and informed me that he would be moving the existing meter (rather than supply a smart meter which I was told previously). 'No problem' I thought, move the existing meter to the new cabinet.
After about an hour he had only manage to screw the new meter to the cabinet. He then left the property saying he was not qualified to do 'new installations' and that his boss had told him to leave. This left a family with three children without power and no knowledge of when it would be connected. No apology, no replacement engineer, nothing.
I didn't make a note of the engineers name, however his boss is Dean Cockburn of the Durham branch of Amey.
Disgusted just doesn't come close to describing the service.
I phoned Amey and the customer service representative 'COULD NOT' re-book another engineer.
I directly contacted my supplier (Scottish Power) who raised an emergency callout to an engineer with Amey. This was supposed to be within 4 hours. After 4 hours I called Amey again and they hadn't assigned the EMERGENCY job.
Finally at about 9.30pm that night the problem was resolved by the 2nd engineer.
