impossible to cancel
impossible to cancel, held my domain hostage and fraudulently charged my credit card (continuously)
not worth the price
not worth the price. difficult to cancel. after years of using the service they nickel and dimed me on the last month when i flipped off the recurring payments
Terrible tech support if something serious happens
Everything was working fine until it wasn't. My site's security certificate stopped working on iPhones - site showed up fine on desktop and flagging as insecure on mobile. ASO techs said they'll get back to me in 1-12 hours with a fix but instead said that everything was working on their end and I was on my own. My client can't see my site on their phones so now I'm rushing during a family vacation to move my site from A Small Orange to a more trustworthy host. They're literally costing me money and time with my family.
Cancellation is impossible. SCAM.
I had two websites hosted here for years, beginning with when they were a small company. Over those years they changed ownership several times, and every single time, they messed up my account.
Several months ago I tried to cancel the last website I had hosted with them as I was shutting down my business and moving on to something else and no longer needed the website or the domain.
That remained open for months and I kept receiving bills for them and when I finally contacted customer support it was like pulling teeth to get them to give me my money back - they wanted to issue a "credit" for future services despite the fact that I have NO need for "future service" from them and had had a cancellation request open for months.
The customer service rep finally agreed to give me my money back when I threatened to leave a one-star review here. When I log into my account, it also states that I have some sort of $78 credit for something. I am unable to determine what for, however.
Well, lo and behold, I just received another bill from A Small Orange a month later. I log in, and they've been transferred to yet ANOTHER owner company - AND, when I check Paypal, I have TWO NEW AUTOPAYMENTS that have miraculously appeared in Paypal from this company. Additionally, suddenly everything in my account on ASmallOrange is set up for auto-renew. YIKES.
When I log into Small Orange, there is no longer an option to contact someone via chat to resolve this. You have to open a "support ticket," meaning this will just get into some queue and the back and forth could take months. Additionally, my account shows a $78 "credit."
And finally, all "auto-renew" settings have been turned on, including for an SSL ticket, etc. - meanwhile, the big red "there is an outstanding cancellation request for this product/service" remains, as it has for months.
I am now taking this to Paypal to go after them since I can't seem to do so myself. Paypal already has me on record as trying to figure out why they kept billing me.
Additionally - depending on what you're looking at, there are like seven different addresses or contact emails/phone numbers for this company from North Carolina to Florida and Texas. The phone number registered with Paypal isn't even in service.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES HOST A WEBSITE HERE. EVER.
After using a small orange since 2007
After using a small orange since 2007, they have lost confidence. for the past week April and May 2025, my website has been up and down. they said it's because it is using too many "technogarble". I deleted all the crons, so that is not the issue. I have lost tens of thousands of dollars because my website has been down. I am going to a new host provider. They lost a faithful consumer.
I feel like they stole money from me
A Small Orange would not refund me for one year of a small reseller package, even though I cancelled before the beginning of the new time period. I've had a small reseller package with ASO for a number of years, but I wanted to move to another host. I knew the hosting package renewed on March 29, 2025, so I sent ASO an email on March 28 saying I wanted to cancel the package and get refunded. They automatically debited my account a couple of weeks prior. When I asked the cancellation and refund, they wrote the following "Per our billing policy, we refund the amount when the hosting plan is within 90 days of billing account signup. I'm afraid refunds are not allowed after renewals." In the past, ASO has given me similar refunds. I guess I did not read their new cancellation policy. I wrote that I felt like they were taking my money, and I would be moving the domains I have with them to another registrar.
Won't credit me my money; customer service ghosted me
After I stopped being a paying customer because I no longer needed A Small Orange (not even because I was dissatisfied at the time) and thus got refunded for unused portions of my services, I belatedly discovered I had a credit amount in my account, presumably because I was overcharged at one point or not fully refunded when I cancelled. Whatever the reason—they never explained it to me despite me explicitly asking—I asked how to receive this money and they told me they only apply credit amounts towards the purchase of a service. I told them I had no need to purchase their services and therefore it felt like they were effectively blackmailing me into becoming a customer again just so I can receive money they owe me. Again, if the credit had been due to something other than a previous overcharge or me not getting fully refunded (which might plausibly justify why I'm not entitled to it), they could've explained that to me when I asked—but they didn't. I had to ask the customer-service rep to escalate my case to a manager because they didn't take the initiative to do it themselves, and the response I got from the manager provided no new information. It wasn't even a large amount of money but their unhelpful attitude given the circumstances was insulting. They eventually ghosted me without ever confirming that the credit wasn't due to them previously overcharging me.
Tried to update address on my account
Tried to update address on my account, after collecting and uploading documents to prove my location I was told that I needed to contact a lawyer to make an affadavit and it needs to be sworn under oath before a magistrate. Been a customer for more than a decade, not going to jump through such hoops just to get some slightly cheaper web hosting. Cancelling my account, won't be using them again
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I seem to be joining a chorus of bad reviewers here, but we need to make our voices heard! I'm the webmaster of a tiny non-profit. We splurged on a web-designer to redo our site back in 2017 and he hosted it at ASO because it was cheap and presumably he was a loyal customer of theirs from back before they were bought out. All was fine for a number of years. Then the price started rising steadily with no warning or improvements in service ($165 in 2022, $198 in 2023, $227 in 2024, $250 for our next renewal which we aren't going to get...). To add insult to injury, SSL is still an extra $40.
Then emails started bouncing. I tried to get some help from "tech-support" but I needed to use web-forums to actually come up with a partial solution. Around this same time, the site got slow and started having a lot of downtime.
The last straw was having to do an ASV scan for credit card acceptance (basically all our income comes over the website). It pulled up some really embarrassing issues--the worst of which was having a version of MySQL which was past end-of-life and hadn't had security updates since 2017! Instead of addressing these problems they told us to get a cloud server at more than twice the cost.
Obviously we moved to a different host, but now we're trying to cancel and it turns out they don't offer refunds for anything, even if you're leaving because their service is inadequate to your needs.
DON'T USE THIS EXPENSIVE, INSECURE, UNCOMMUNICATIVE, AND UNETHICAL COMPANY. There are so many better options out there.
Servers Are Not Kept Up To Date
Went to install Joomla on a site and the installed said SQL needs to be updated and recommended v8. The current version installed is: 5.7.23... which was end of life in October 2023.
Since it is Sept. 2024 I just assumed they missed it and asked for them to fix this. I was told we have to upgrade our hosting plan... ???
What do we pay them to maintain a server for if they are going to let it reach end of life? Frustrating trying to get answers. Only chat is an option and they respond once or twice a day.

Shreya took the time to look into my issue and explain it concisely. which is exactly what i needed after my horrible experience with another company that shall remain nameless. all i can say is as a customer with them for many, Many, MANY years - they didn't offer me any real understanding or "solutions" at all.
Shreya was a breath of fresh air! please keep hiring people who have an empathic nature with common sense, knowledge, and a wonderful demeanor! Shreya is a peach - AND an orange!
Very quick response and problem solving.
Super helpful fixing a mistake on the company's end
I had cancelled my hosting plan a while ago, but for some reason the account cancellation was still pending. I didn't realize this and received notice for an overdue bill (it hadn't charged because I removed the card from the account). Thankfully Amith Suresh was able to quickly assess the situation, cancel the account properly on his end, and resolve my issue.
Great website hosting services + customer support!
