Very disappointing experience

Very disappointing experience. I had already paid €68.50 for full coverage insurance as part of my booking, but when I arrived at the counter, I was told that this was not considered insurance by the rental company and that it did not provide sufficient coverage for them.
The options offered were either a €700 deposit while remaining responsible for any damage to the vehicle, or paying an additional €210 for the rental company's own insurance and leaving only a €100 deposit.
Since I did not want to drive while being fully responsible for potential damage, I felt forced to purchase the additional insurance despite already having paid for coverage in advance.
Customers should be informed much more clearly about the difference between the insurance sold during booking and the coverage required by the rental company. Being asked to pay an extra €210 at pickup after already paying €68.50 for what was advertised as full coverage was frustrating and misleading. Unfortunately, this lack of transparency resulted in a very poor experience.

we are sorry that the difference between the coverage purchased during the booking process and Autovia’s protection options was not clear.

Coverages purchased through brokers or intermediaries are separate products from the Autovia rental agreement: they may provide reimbursement to the customer afterwards, but they do not automatically remove the security deposit, excess amounts or liabilities stated in the rental agreement at pick-up. For this reason, optional Autovia coverages may be offered at the desk, reducing or directly eliminating certain financial responsibilities and allowing a lower deposit.

The choice always remains with the customer. We understand, however, that communication must be clear and complete, especially when a customer has already purchased coverage through the booking channel. Your feedback will help us improve the information provided before and during pick-up.

The staff was so helpful and the prices was nice. the only downside was the insurance was too high nearly the car's rental price.

Second nice experience

It's the second time that we rent a car from this company, and this is a second very good experience.
When we gave back the car, we just had 1 problem regarding the lack of fuel. The person from Autovia told us that we can go out from the parking and refuel the car, what we did. The problem was on the fuel station, the pistolet had a problem and shown that the car was full even if it was not the case.
After coming back to the airport parking, everything was alright, no bad suprise, no additional fees.
The personnel is very nice, without stress and responding all our questions.
I will still recommand this company !

A very positive experience renting from…

A very positive experience renting from Autovia. The staff were friendly and explained everything I needed to know. When I made the booking, I chose not to add any extra insurance, but at the counter I decided to upgrade to full coverage. It did increase the rental cost quite a bit, but it was not presented as a surprise. Traffic can be challenging, and for us it was worth the peace of mind of not having to worry about any scratches or dents on the car, big or small.
Autovia’s office is located inside the terminal, which is a major advantage, and their parking area is shared with most of the other rental car companies. We had booked a VW T-Cross but instead received a brand-new Nissan Qashqai, which was perfectly fine with us.

Very helpful and professional personal

Very helpful and professional personal, answered on my all questions, can’t complain at all. Pick up from the airport in Palermo was relatively quick and drop off to the airport was immediate.
The only thing what I would recommend to others if someone wish to rent an automatic transmission car, please do it in advance and contact Autovia and ask them to reserve a decent car for you, otherwise probably you will get only MG small car which is ok for the city, but if you are planning to do a road trip like me, it’s not the best option.
Another recommendation would be to go for your reservation via Sunny Cars, it’s slightly more expensive but completely hassle free.

We had the EXACT experience as another…

We had the EXACT experience as another 1 star reviewer. The car we rented had 72,000 kilometers and innumerable scratches and many dents. When we picked up the car, I took photos of the existing damage but should have taken a video as to fully document the car damages would have required 45 photos. When we returned it today we were told that the UNDERSIDE of the right front bumper was scratched. I had NO photographic evidence that we weren't responsible for the "damage". Since they had our deposit for the car, I had ZERO leverage and had to pay 265 Euros for the damage we weren't responsible for. If I could give a 0 rating I would. I'm well into my 60's and have rented many, many cars over the years. Never experienced anything like this. Please, pay a bit more and rent from a well recognized, reputable company. Argh.

Riteniamo tuttavia importante chiarire alcuni aspetti oggettivi. I nostri veicoli, anche se con chilometraggio elevato, vengono regolarmente controllati e tutti i danni preesistenti vengono sempre registrati nella documentazione di check-out, che il cliente è invitato a visionare e confermare prima dell’utilizzo del veicolo. In caso di dubbi o di danni non chiaramente visibili (come quelli nella parte inferiore del veicolo), è sempre possibile richiedere supporto al personale in fase di ritiro.

Alla riconsegna, eventuali danni non presenti nella documentazione iniziale — inclusi quelli nella parte inferiore del veicolo — devono essere valutati secondo procedure standard di settore, applicate in modo uniforme e supportate da rilievi tecnici e fotografici. Il deposito cauzionale non rappresenta una “leva”, ma una garanzia contrattuale prevista in tutti i noleggi auto, proprio per consentire verifiche corrette e tracciabili dopo il rientro del veicolo.

Ci dispiace che la documentazione in suo possesso non sia risultata sufficiente a supportare la contestazione, ma respingiamo l’idea che gli addebiti vengano effettuati in modo arbitrario o scorretto. Ogni importo richiesto segue criteri oggettivi e verificabili.

Very friendly staff and good service

Very friendly staff and good service, especially Claudia was very helpful when we returned the car and even helped us with some other questions we had around the toll. Car was a bigger version than booked so that was a nice surprise as well!

They have to send someone to pick you up but you don't know that until you arrive

Helped other customers that's were behind us first because they knew him

Doesn't say you need an international license but when you get there they tell you that you do, then you're screwed with finding a way back to the airport to get a car from a different company

If you book through booking your deposit doesn't count they want another $500

we are truly sorry for the inconvenience you experienced and fully understand your frustration. Our airport offices are located just a short distance from the terminal and offer a free shuttle service, as indicated in the booking confirmation, to easily reach the rental location.

Regarding the international driving license, Italian law requires that non-EU residents hold an International Driving Permit or an official translation of their license, as stated in our Terms and Conditions and on the booking voucher.

As for the deposit, please note that there is a difference between the rental payment made through the booking portal and the security deposit, which must be pre-authorized locally on a personal credit card as a standard guarantee for all rentals.

Pressured to take out extra insurance to cover excess for any damages.

Whilst the pick up and drop off service to and from the airport was fine, we definitely felt pressured to take out additional insurance. We were told the insurance we had taken out with Easyjet/Axa did not cover any minor damage and that we could pay an excess of 1300.00 Euros if we didn't have their insurance. When I showed them a copy of our insurance paperwork, they still went on that we would have to pay up front and wait ages for repayment if we didn't have their cover. We witnessed them doing this to every customer. We met a couple on our return who said this happened to them previously and this time did not take it, as the insurance they had was fine.

Our protection plans, on the other hand, are optional services designed to reduce or eliminate the customer’s direct financial responsibility with Autovia, avoiding the need to advance large sums or wait for reimbursement.

Good expirience
