Disappointed with @Autovia SRL’s Customer Service and Lack of Accountability
I wanted to share my recent experience with Autovia SRL, a car rental company in Italy, in the hopes that others can avoid a similar situation.
On 22nd July 2024, I rented a car from Autovia SRL. After returning the vehicle, which was left at their secured location, I realized that I had accidentally left my Bose headphones inside the car. I immediately contacted the company to report the forgotten item, expecting that they would assist in retrieving it.
Unfortunately, despite multiple follow-ups, Autovia SRL has informed me that they “did not find the item” and have been unhelpful in resolving the matter. As a customer, I am extremely disappointed by their lack of responsibility and support. It’s frustrating to know that a company like Autovia SRL, which should have a duty of care for items left in their custody, has failed to take appropriate action or offer any compensation for my loss.
I’ve also provided them with proof of purchase for the headphones, yet they remain unresponsive to my requests for a resolution. For anyone considering using their services, I urge you to be cautious and ensure that you take extra care with your belongings, as Autovia SRL may not take responsibility if something goes wrong.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with them?

Palermo branch, Cinisi (No its not at the airport)
Awful service, left hanging for a shuttle bus at the airport and left there as the shuttle bus was full despite my disabled mother being in agony. Waited an eternity for the next pick up to then wait hours for a car. To be then presented with a car that looked like it had been through world war three. Condition horrendous, keyed all over and covered in filth, dent and scratches. I refused to take the car and was offered another pile of junk where my two suit cases wouldn't fit in the boot. I ordered a medium sized car and was told to put the seats down. Infuriated at that point I complained and was offered a larger car which I had to pay more for despite ordering that type in the first place.... ah, again, filthy inside out and covered in dents and scratches.
On return of the vehicle, the office is closed. No shuttle bus available to take me to the airport so I had to pay for a taxi or I would have missed my flight.
I then get an e-mail with the end of contract fraudulently signed by some one on my behalf stating I had incurred damages to the car and was to receive a bill.
I wouldn't this car again if you paid me. I complained and had no response despite being promised a call back. I cant speak on behalf of the whole company but can certainly can comment on Palermo. Absolute disgrace. I have no idea how they are in business.
We rented a car in Palermo (Sicily), AutoVia (over Argus Car Hire). The driving license broke into pieces when taking in out of the wallet.
They just refused to take even a Scan of the original Document and took advantage by trying to sell an option for 3times the price we paid for the car.
To say is in Sicily everything is extremely complicated when s*** hits the fan with cars.
If you dont have a valid CREDIT card (not prepaid or debit, check it!) or your credit card has a small dent or anything else you are straight getting ripped of, by them refusing your driving license, by what ever stupid reason...
Thats how they make money, by selling overpriced onsite options in case something goes wrong. Its inacceptable and straight an a.s.shole move.
They lie for the damage on the car. When you dont take insuranse for the car.
the conditions booked did not correspond to what was actually charged. Additionaly, my credit card was also charged for additional movements (~45euros) and I asked for clarification by e-mail several times without receiving any reply from Autovia
The agency is far away from the airport with only one shuttle bus. Almost missed the flight on our way back
All good, except return airport shuttle, which took quite a while to collect passengers and there were too many of them on board.
We had to pay around 300
Euro extra because they wouldn’t take master card debit or visa debit for the normal price.
Only credit card
All was well with our rental car at the Palermo airport location until we returned the vehicle and they found a scrape on the car. We had purchased the damage insurance coverage, so they told us to take a picture of it and they would send us an email with the information that the insurance company would need. They also informed us that they would charge our credit card and the insurance company would reimburse us. Well, they did charge our card and they gave us some of the information, but after the insurance company asked for more, I sent no less than 3 emails to AutoVia and they didn't respond. After a lot of extra work, I had to get a special dispensation from the insurance company (AIG) to reimburse me so I could pay the credit card bill.
Buy damage/collision insurance from AutoVia/EcoVia at your own risk!

We haven‘t been informed that the rental service was 10min. away from the airport. We had to book another flight on another day, because it would have been impossible to catch the flight on the actual day, since the rental service opened at 8am.
And although we already booked an extended insurance for the rental car with Ryanair, the service guy from AutoVia talked us into an additional insurance.

Although the drop off point was listed as ‘Palermo Airport’ it was miles away. This meant that because I had a morning flight, the office did not open early enough for me to drop off the car and take their transit bus to the airport. I had to drop the car off the night before and pay €35 in the morning to get a taxi

very welcoming and helpful stuff we had to change the car we have rent we needed a bigger one and the one they gave us was exceptional Kia Sportage we loved the car

car was ok, checkout time was ok. The only thing that could have been better would be if the car pick-up and drop-off desk was at the airport.

We waited for more than an hour outside of the office during business hour until the people showed. Had to use international data plan to make an international call to the number posted on the office window.

Very cheap rental company, as they all are in Sicily. You have to phone them to get a pick up from the airport to their base which is a bit inconvenient, but they are the cheapest.
My biggest gripe is how they they tried to sting us to pay for repairs to the car when we retuned it. The car had dents and scratches all over it when we took it out. When we returned it, the woman told us that she knew this car well and all the dents and scratches - I very much doubt it. Then she found a scratch on a tire that she wanted to charge us for. Fortunately we had taken a video of the car before we took it out and were able to prove that the damage was already there.
I suspect that, because the rental price is so low, they'll try to get you for damages.

We are regular users of hire vehicles in Italy, but the best experience we have had was at the AutoVia office near Palermo Airport, Sicily. "Peppe" explained everything fully and clearly in excellent English, which is often a issue when trying to understand the various insurance packages. Peppe made the experience of renting from Autovia reassuring and easy. The vehicle, the trip and the service was excellent. Thank you Autovia and a big shout-out to "Peppe" :-))))

Fantastic car service with English speaking staff. Very friendly and professional people. It was a very good experience for us. We highly recommend them.
Ps. Buy their car insurance as it will cover you for everything and it is better than ryanair or any other company. ( read the small print)
We paid more than the car hire but it literally covers you, the car, others that hit you.

The communication was friendly and helpful from the start and we got, what we need. I guess we were a little bit more complicated client, because we needed three different cars and different baby equipment.
The welcoming and transfer were supersmooth, also leaving the car afterwards to the airport was really easy.
Bonus points for fast reaction and substitute car, when we got a flat tire.

We had a great experience. The cars were perfect for our use, the staff spoke English very well and were extremely helpful. It was easy to find. The key to remember is.. it is NOT at the airport. Great rates, great staff.
