Initial enquiry followed up promptly, however despite the claim remaining ongoing, refused to pay for additional blood tests. Given this is a highly distressing situation for myself, the outcome of which I still do not know, this leaves me wondering what the the actual point of having private health care is. I'd think twice about using them again if I had to.

AXA wrongly assumed that my foot condition relates to a podiatrist/they just took it literally: Podiatry is a specialized branch of medicine focused on the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders affecting the foot, ankle, and lower limb.
So they refused authentication...
I have an orthopedic condition, it is in the foot, but not all foot conditions are podiatry related. My condition is more complex...
AXA just have no understanding of different health specialists. They see the body via parts rather than conditions! Just like a four years old child, foot is foot!
I am really surprised how they train their employees how to reject claims based on body parts, not conditions...

I was utterly blown away with the support and kindness during my cancer treatment. I didn't know that I had full cancer cover in my small private insurance policy, the team explained everything with warmth and every appointment, scan and treatment was paid for - your cancer support team would call and check that I was doing well. You saved me from chemotherapy by approving an expensive US-based test which proved that radiotherapy was as effective as chemo would be in my treatment. I felt your entire team around me went beyond the call of duty - it was actually very important for my state of mind! Thank you.

Treatment agreed and paid for without a problem. Communicaton required me to chase them, rather than proactively sorting things out. When there was a "problem" with the Anaesthetist rather than AXA ringing me, they told the provider to tell me there was problem, I then had to call AXA. Not customer focussed! When I had the discussion about this topic AXA tried to tell me that I should discuss with the consultant about who he had selected as the Anaesthetist. I had done as they requested and approached one of the Consultants from their list and not been told there was anyting else for me to do. In the end AXA "accepted" responsibility, but I have no idea why they thought that I should get involved.

Overall, I'm happy with AXA. Generally speaking, they have always covered what needed to be covered; however, the administration experience is a nightmare.
It really depends on who you get when you call them to ask for a referral. You can get someone, and they can refer you pretty quickly. For the same issue, it could take up to an hour. I've experienced this. Some of the representatives are great, and some are just terrible, so it's really hit and miss. I've had some unfortunate, very long wait times for essentially the same query.
The other thing is you have to call them up every single time to check if a doctor or hospital is covered. Now, these lists are available on doctor find websites like that, where the doctor states that they are covered or not, and on their own personal websites. You still have to call access. You can't even go online, and there's no database on their website to check. You have to call them, and that's another annoyance, I would say.
From an administration standpoint, it's not very good. For providing cover, it seems to be pretty good.
