Treatment agreed and paid for without a problem. Communicaton required me to chase them, rather than proactively sorting things out. When there was a "problem" with the Anaesthetist rather than AXA ringing me, they told the provider to tell me there was problem, I then had to call AXA. Not customer focussed! When I had the discussion about this topic AXA tried to tell me that I should discuss with the consultant about who he had selected as the Anaesthetist. I had done as they requested and approached one of the Consultants from their list and not been told there was anyting else for me to do. In the end AXA "accepted" responsibility, but I have no idea why they thought that I should get involved.

Overall, I'm happy with AXA. Generally speaking, they have always covered what needed to be covered; however, the administration experience is a nightmare.
It really depends on who you get when you call them to ask for a referral. You can get someone, and they can refer you pretty quickly. For the same issue, it could take up to an hour. I've experienced this. Some of the representatives are great, and some are just terrible, so it's really hit and miss. I've had some unfortunate, very long wait times for essentially the same query.
The other thing is you have to call them up every single time to check if a doctor or hospital is covered. Now, these lists are available on doctor find websites like that, where the doctor states that they are covered or not, and on their own personal websites. You still have to call access. You can't even go online, and there's no database on their website to check. You have to call them, and that's another annoyance, I would say.
From an administration standpoint, it's not very good. For providing cover, it seems to be pretty good.

AXA's system for customers to receive medical help are too fragmented. You end up being put through so many BOT processes, with Virtual Lucy being the worst.
When I was with BUPA, it was more straight forward and quicker to speak to an operative instead of computer questions getting no where!
If Bupa are 10 ten AXA would be 3.
Hi Dan, You said you have tried to contact me by phone, but there are no missed calls from AXA!

I was treated aggressively and I felt Axa tried to do everyting in theor power to not support and pay for my claims. I fear having to call and speak with anyrbody who works for this insuirance company. Horribel experiences.

The initial point of contact was as exceptional customer service and I never needed to speak to anyone again because it was so thoroughly helpful and informative of the entire process. Claims handled and settled with the minimum of fuss. Honestly far easier than I ever imagined it would be.
