I believe it’s now a scam

Before autumn time 2022 I was a long standing and very satisfied customer. I have since experienced the same issues as others are describing here including a subscription being taken this month when I clearly cancelled it and have had to contact my bank. I honestly feel like this is now a scam that is trying to stay just about legal by issuing products (clearing random old stock of products already received is definitely not what we signed up for) and potentially offering refunds (I have had an email to say I will get a refund but I will believe it when I see it). Maybe I am being skeptic but it seems to me that I only received those random products after I triggered my cancellation and noted the reason that I thought it was a scam and then after still talking my money and sending an email to say that my bank would be on to them they have replied with a customer service type email talking about getting an engineer to look into how my payment was taken when I cancelled and auto renewal was set to off. I just don’t buy it. If it’s legit then why did they issue false tracking notifications when they first started back up months ago and their website is clearly not fit for purpose. I think if you get on to them they do what they need to appear legal but it’s all those other poor people who haven’t noticed the payments or don’t know how to dispute it. One final point, I was searching around in my account and saw options on my bank cards for “change payment details” so I thought I’d click on it for both cards to see if I could remove them and it sent me 2 emails with links for payment details. I personally wouldn’t advise that anyone clicks on any links for payment details from them, seems off to me. Make sure you tell you bank everyone.

Shocking

Again, subscription was cancelled a year ago, and then in June direct debit was taken from my bank, i called my bank and was reimbursed as no goods received. i was assured by Birchbox that all was now cancelled, now i have received another box and today received email to tell me another box on the way, no idea what is going on, customer services are wasted time

Just lies...

Birchbox clearly went under last year and has been bought out by new owners. From my previous subscription I was owed two boxes.
In May I received an email that owed boxes would begin shipping and would be received by mid-July. I followed up at the end of July and told it would be in a couple of days. I followed up again 1 August and was told within a week. 11 August I again followed up and was told in a few days. It's now 22 August and still no boxes.
I would have thought the existing subscribers would be the better business plan for the new owners to retain but obviously not.
They are just liars and at this point, fraudulent.

Avoid - very poorly run business

Used to be fine. Had been using them for months then all of a sudden they stopped sending boxes last October. I had one more box from my voucher and another voucher that I got as a present ready to activate. I still haven't received that boix but they cancelled my account as I "failed to make a payment" despite two emails promising my box was already in the post! Disgusting!

Avoid!!!

Ridiculous! To say I'm angry is an understatement, but by reading 99% of these reviews it seems that Birchbox had the same approach with every customer. I subscribed to 3 boxes last year, got the first one delivered no problem around September time, it was late a few weeks but arrived. The second box finally arrived in August 2023!!!! Nearly a whole year later!! Be warned, they will take your money and you'll be lucky if you ever see the products. Customer service will tell you they're looking into it but nothing happens.

Not good. Suggest avoid.

Same experience as other recent reviewers. I signed up to a 12 month subscription last summer, so I can't get out of it! As with everyone else I received a box last October, then it all stopped. Then, this year, came messages about boxes coming again from June .. and payments taken 2 months in a row from my account without anything being received. So yesterday (its the middle of August) my "June box" arrived. Poor show, Birchbox, what are you doing? Samples just in a brown cardboard box (which didn't look entirely secure either), no presentation box and no leaflet about what they are .. I always used to read the info that came with the samples. This is not the Birchbox experience I signed up to. I do sympathise with a company which may be trying hard to overcome some very real problems, but all I have had from Birchbox is either silence or false promises, and no honesty about what is really happening. I think thats the really annoying thing. I'm not sure whether to request a refund now, or wait and see whether things improve next month.

Absolutely awful

Like everyone else, I stopped receiving boxes last October. Then I got the emails that they were relaunching, but I stupidly did not think to check my account. It turns out I had opted for auto-renew so they took a 6-month subscription from my card but of course no boxes have arrived. I was also given a fake tracking number for Evri. No response to all the emails I sent and no phone number to ring. Now I discovered their email address is not working or 'doesn't exist' according to the delivery failure message I got. They still hold my credit card number and I cannot delete it from their website. This is beyond shocking.

Not what it used to be.... DOWNHILL SINCE RELAUNCH

I have been a birchbox subscriber since 2018, even paid for another monthly subscription as a gift for my little sister. All was well until last October 22 when without any notice no box came, no payment taken. Contacted customer service no response.Then after months.. a notice appears on their websites to advise of relaunch. Issues with logging in then seemed resolved as company advised of relaunch and shipped in June 23. Payment was taken in June 23, and no show of box. Contacted customer service multiple times to be told it's on it away...finally two months later today (mid August 23) I receive a scrunched up birchbox with rattling samples inside the box, I open the box, the items are all loose, not in the iconic birchbox or birchbox reusable pouch as it used to be, not even some bubble wrap or wrapping paper to prevent from rattling. Absolutely shocking....and the samples were mediocre samples I have received in prior boxes. Absolutely shocking...I would much rather put my money elsewhere. I cancelled with immediate effect

Be warned and beware!

Like everyone else I cancelled my subscription last year when it was clear the company were having issues. I was owed a box. Earlier this year received email from them saying they had taken over the company and were starting off by putting things right and sending out owed boxes. Great I thought, let’s see what they do and I was prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt. Box never turned up by the date stated and was even sent a fake courier number. Then I was notified by my bank that they had taken money for a June box completely unauthorised and which has never arrived. The bank refunded the money and opened up an investigation. Two days ago received email from the courier evri to say they had my Birchbox. My expectations at this point from reading what has turned up for others is very low. You’d think a new company would pay special attention to trying to win back the confidence and subscriptions of former members but apparently not. Be warned and beware. Report them!
Update: well my box just arrived and I have to say I am quite pleasantly surprised. Everyone had talked of getting five tiny samples of products previously sent out so I was pretty much expecting the same. However I got eleven decently sized products and a pink tote bag! One or two of them I recognised as things I had had before but that’s all. Can’t speak to the quality of the products as I haven’t tried them nor do I feel I trust them enough to renew my subscription at this time. Will watch and wait I think.

Avoid

I finally received my long awaited June box today (in mid August, after not being sent one for over a year). I used to love receiving my monthly Birchbox, but just a few tiny samples that I’ve had before chucked into the cardboard delivery box with no presentation box and no leaflet saying what each thing was was not the comeback it should have been. If the company has had issues, they should do their comeback properly or not do it at all! Also according to their emails and my online account, they’ve been taking money out of my bank account each month for boxes I haven’t even been sent! Subscription cancelled, such a shame they had to go this way.

Do not buy from this company

Do not buy from this company. I cancelled a subscription last year and all of a sudden they have helped themselves to more money on my credit card more more than half a year after cancelling. From doing a Google search other people have been stung. Do not touch with a barge pole

Same as everyone else…took money out of my account but not received boxes then got one today and disgusting…5 small sample sized products just chucked in a tatty cardboard bos with no leaflet explaining the product…samples so small you cannot read …how are they getting away with this…will report to watchdog as advised

Atrocious communication and service

Worked fine as a subscription until last October. Nicely packaged items with variety. Then after a load of silence a supposed relaunch. Money taken out of account 3 months running with no goods, until today I received a crushed cardboard box of shabby little tubes Avoid!!!

Same issues as everyone else, no boxes since last October but was understanding towards this as they were clearly having some major issues. Started receiving emails making promises about owes boxes (got to the point where I was owed 3) but nothing came in the post. Finally got my ‘June’ box today and it is a load of previous samples chucked in a box without the usual leaflet or presentation. Subscription cancelled.

Awful

My comments echo many others. After waiting 2 months for my promised June box and being told I would also received my owed box from last October, along with 2 extra items to compensate for all the messing around, I finally received my "box" today, which was 6 items thrown in a cardboard box, no usual presentation box or any card describing what the products are. To make matters worse the items are all old stock and things I have received in previous boxes. I have written to cancel my subscription and asked for a refund of the 2 boxes not received and this poor excuse for a box I received today. Really disappointing. I would give them 0 stars if the option was available.

Absolutely disgusted with this firm

Absolutely disgusted with this firm. They went out of business then the new owners reopened my closed account and took payment without my permission . Was prepared to let that go following reassurance from them things would return to their normal very good service but the quality of their relaunched box is diabolical (repeat products received many times before, no explanatory leaflet , not even sent in a ‘box’ other than the delivery packaging) … I could go on . Exceptionally reduced quality from the new owners .Do not subscribe to this relaunched firm !!!!!

This company disappeared for months…

This company disappeared for months with zero communication, then suddenly renewed membership without consulting about doing this and charging again after so long. One email from them then sent stating they’re going to send a box out.
I emailed twice about changing my password when it stopped working, have had no response and therefore can’t even cancel my subscription. Literally suckered into spending my money with no way out.

Birchbox Subscription box

Looking at other reviews I've been having the same problems. My subscription boxes stopped being delivered in October last year, then all of a sudden a payment was taken out of my account in June. After contacting the company I was told that the October box and one for July this year would be dispatched by the end of July. No sign of either. I have contacted them again, as although I've cancelled it looks as if a box for August has been locked in, no payment taken as yet.

Company trying to take money after no delivery for almost a year

I used to be a huge advocate for Birchbox, I was a subscriber for many years until the box delivery suddenly stopped and the company simply disappeared. I had paid for a subscription for a year in advance and only received 2 of these boxes. I just chalked it up to poor luck and forgot about it until a couple of weeks ago, when my bank informed me that a company called Birchbox had attempted to take almost £150 from my account (presumably the cost of renewing a year's subscription?) and it was flagges as fraud. My card was blocked and Birchbox attempted to take the payment four or five times over the course of a week. I am in contact with the dispute team of my bank now, but they won't unblock my card before resolution due to it being high risk after multiple payment attemps flagged as fraudulent.

It's bad enough that we were left with no refund or recompense for yearly subscripstions unfulfilled, but how are they now taking money? The company went under, where is this money going? It is beyond inconvenient that I am blocked from using my card, I have monthly payments being declined because of this nonsense. I appreciate there is little point in writing this, because anyone reading it will be in a similar position to me, but this is extremely poor.
