This was once a good app and software

This was once a good app and software. Relatively easy to use. Then came price increase which I didnt mind. But recently I made a payment £74 for their services and it didnt give me any receipt. It also hasn't give me access to the software/app. So all week I have had to keep making support tickets which they take all day to answer with no continuity or resolve each time they answer you. They have still not refunded or fixed the problem. I would avoid this company like the plague now. They can't be trusted.

Time to jump from the sinking ship...

I found Bokio good initially and was happy to pay. Then the price tripled and I wasn't too happy, but I thought perhaps it would allow them to invest in the platform.

In fact, the opposite has happened. The support is non-existent, the latest updates were posted in 2022 and very little has materially changed with the platform.

Just to really twist the knife, I now see that Director's payroll will be discontinued in March. Very little notice given and no explanation at all. Why would I expect anything else at this point?

I will obviously now be leaving Bokio. This is a great example of how not to run a business. It's particularly laughable because my own start-up business has grown in that period so I'm fortunate enough to be in a position where I can now pay a bit more for bookkeeping, but I certainly won't be spending that money on Bokio.

Initially good BUT watch-out...

Initially good and functional.
Year 1: free.
Year 2: £75.
Year 3: I was locked out of the software because my DD payment wasn't successful. This was okay as I didn't need it anymore. When I asked 'support' if I could have access just to download my data to make a tax return I was told, 'NO'. This seemed incredibly unreasonable, considering it is my data. I left it assuming that was an end to it.
I did not notice they'd taken the DD payment when there were sufficient funds in the account...which was £250!!!!! Believing myself locked out of the platform and unaware of the payment removed from my bank account, I did not use the account for a year.
Year 4: I noticed that the DD payment removed from my account and contacted them regarding the scenario. They did refund the year 4 amount because "the account was inactive" and when I asked for the previous years' amount to be refunded (for the same reason), they declined. I explained that I'd been locked out of my account at the start of year 3 and had not been told by 'support' that the DD payment would still be taken from my account at some future point or that there would be a huge price rise. I was told that even when you are locked out of your account, you still have access to your subscription...this makes no sense and nothing about the login page suggests you have access to one part of the platform but not another.
Watch out for the surprise price rise and their attitude towards you as a customer.

Worst customer service

The bokio platform.is relatively good and useful for good management of business finances

However when I cancelled the service on their website, they continued to take money from my account for a further 1 year.

Despite having sent repeated messages they wanted the email if the person I commissioned to set up the account.

The customer service was atrocious. They dismissed my claims several times, they did not acknowledge my concerns. In the end I told to keep the damn money and not engage with andbnot take money from my account

A horrible year if back and forth.

Save yourself the headache and do not use the platform because the customer service WILL let you down massively leaving you resentful

Bokio is an awful company

Bokio is an awful company. Does not respond to support enquiries and if you like submitting VAT returns late because the software does not sync with HMRC then this is for you. Terrible.

Holding my accounts to ransom

Holding my accounts to ransom

I used Bokio previously as it was free. I did like the software as it did all the dual entry stuff automatically, but now they are asking me to pay in order to access what accounts I had at the time.

Every time I contact them they keep coming back with practically the same response.

I have been in a similar situation, when I had to access my accounts on another platform. I explained that I needed to access my accounts in order to complete my Self Assessment. I was granted a one off license, which allowed me to do this.

Zero customer support!

Bokio do not provide a QR code or security number to enable you to set up 2 factor authentication should you change your mobile phone and need to reinstate it. If you email their support for this information it takes weeks to get anywhere, even if you send them the info they've asked for! They do not respond to emails quickly, it can take days, and they do not read your request for support properly, so you get nowhere. I am soon to be locked out of my Bokio system forever, when my PC switches off and I need to log in again, and Bokio are doing nothing to help... yet I am a paying customer! Appauling service!

Their auto renew policy is very unfair

Their auto renew policy is very unfair. I paid for a year up front but then decided it wasnt for me, so i went to stop any recurring paymnets being taken from my debit card or remove my card but couldnt do either during the period that had already been paid for upfront!! fast forward to a year later, obviously I had forgotten about Bokio, until i see they have taken a payemnt of £237.40 from my account on auto renew. The sub starts today and I cancelled today but they are saying that I cannot get a refund because it needed to be cancelled yesterday!! what a joke. I hope they do the right thing and refund my hard earned money without me having to take this further which I will....not happy...no phone number only messaging service, very annoying, dont join

I first started using Bokio in 2021…

I first started using Bokio in 2021 when it cost £6 per month. The prices started increasing and suddenly all customers were required to pay £74.85 for 3 months in advance. That's £24.95 per month meaning the cost has quadrupled in less than two years! Even more disgusting is that if you cancel the subscription in month one, they do NOT refund you for the unused months that you have been forced to pay in advance - they simply tell you that they do not issues refunds. I will be pursuing the matter but I advise you not to use this rip-off company!

Rip off merchants - Avoid

I signed up with Bokio as a better value alternative to the more well known cloud accounting platforms, that seemed to do all I needed for my small business' accounting. The free option convinced me it was worth paying for a premium account and after the first year I was a bit frustrated to see them jack the price up by 60%. But by this point I was quite reliant on it and it was still cheaper than much of the competition. Another year has passed and they've told me the price is going up by 177%!! And there is no free or lower cost plan available anymore.

Not only is that an obscene price rise but they've also refused to accept monthly payments any longer, so you can't even pay as you go whilst transferring your records to another provider. They want a minimum of three months upfront, with the default option being a full year.

As if the ludicrous cost wasn't bad enough (and I can't see how any existing customers can justify being extorted in this way) their support is unbelievably poor. They're rude, completely lacking in empathy and show zero interest in providing any sort of customer service.

It's an incredibly disappointing experience with a product that could have been really good if they hadn't just stuck two fingers up at their entire userbase. With an attitude like theirs they won't be around much longer so the best hope is that another company buys the technology and rebrands it (seeing as the Bokio name is mud now), with proper customer support and realistic pricing options.

Truly a scandalous way to do business

The company removed free service at…

The company removed free service at short notice (none of their emails got through till after they'd removed access). That would be fine, if they made it easy for you to download your previous records, but they refuse to even let me see it without paying a three months subscription. An extortionate service compared with other paid subscriptions available out there.

Holding my information hostage

Holding my information hostage as I don’t want to pay their ridiculous fees. There emails all went into my junk folder so did not know I was gonna loose access to my information. I now have no way of getting hold of my information for hmrc for next years tax return, I offered to pay for 1 month but that was not acceptable to them. Don’t use this company lots of better companies out there that cost a lot less or are free
