Avoid This Company

Was great at first as on the free price plan. Upgraded to the 8.99 plan last year as invoicing was removed from the free plan. They have now hiked the price to £75 a quarter. Disgusting. Account closed and I would advise anyone considering using them to avoid!

Bokio: awful, arrogant scammers. AVOID!

Just wrote a review of this appalling travesty of a company, but left it under their listing for Bokio.SE (ie Sweden). At risk of repeating myself here, AVOID them at all costs.

They're currently preventing me from closing my account, thereby deleting the data they hold, unless I pay a minimum of £74.85 for a quarterly subscription.

I've now passed the matter to the ICS in the UK (Information Commisioner's Office) as a formal complaint about data usage and GDPR contravention. Suggest those on here experiencing the same should do likewise.

Bokio should really avoid picking fights with those who run a business : most of us are better at it than they are!

Don't use this company

Don't use this company, I was using their free plan services, Despite their long-standing promise that Bokio would be free they have now removed that option and will not let you access any of your company data without paying an eye-watering amount of money. I have years worth of data locked up in this company that I can no longer access.

Disabled Accounts half way through tax year, data held at ransom

Bokio was a great solution for me. I ran a small freelance business and it was a perfect fit for me. Its free plan was marketed as "Always Free," as long as you didnt need any of the features that were more than Bare-bones.

Half way through the tax year (September 1st), all users were sent an email (which after talking to others in forums, many went into spam, including mine) letting people know that they had removed the free plan, and increased the size of the paid plans without any notice.

I stopped trading in my business around mid-May, and hadn't needed to touch my accounts since. The other day I happened to log in to find my account's data was completely inaccessible.

Fair enough for a business to increase their prices, but this seems like much more of a shady cash grab. When I contacted Support, they claimed it was my fault that I hadn't read the email, and that the only way for me to get my data (so I don't get a fine for missing or guessing on my self assessment) was £75. Fair enough if I was trading, I'm not, and haven't done in months.

As it is a Swedish company trading in the UK, I'm not entirely sure how GDPR applies to this, however I'm sure there's about a hundred laws they have broken here.

It's a real shame as well, as I have been planning on starting another business in a few months and using Bokio for that (I had already budgetted in paying their original paid plan) but unfortunately I'm going to have to take my business to the accounting "big boys".

Tut Tut.

Bokio is an untrustworthy company

Bokio is an untrustworthy company that will ransom your information and data. Their support really enjoys and gets a kick out of trying to scam you out of money because they earn a commission. This is not a company you want to do business with. This company also violates GDPR regulations and refuses to share your personal (not company) data with you.

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!!

Don't use this company

Don't use this company. They will lock access to your accounting data completley if you don't pay. Change terms and prices on short notice while having no working self-service way to cancel and refusing refunds of unused services.

Ridiculous price change

Changed their prices to a ridiculous amount and will not allow you access to your paperwork without paying the subscription.

Needless to say cancelled and will never go back. It feels dishonest and disrespect to their customers

Holding customers to ransom

Free service for small accounts. Then without warning, remove all access to your data (Remove the free version) and hold you to ransom. Pay £74 a quarter or you don't get access to your data, and can't use the service anymore. Despicable business practices, at the least you should be letting businesses download their data. I'm convinced this might be illegal.

Rip off,

Gone from a reasonably priced solution to charging an absolute fortune overnight, all the plans that helped support the small and very small business that the product aimed to support have vanished and it's now over £70 a quarter.

Over priced rubbish

I have a computer and accounting background and this software is way below par with others out there. I've been contacted recently by businesses who now have to pay for what was suppose to be free forever software. My reply is how can you trust your business to a financial software company that lies to you? You don't! You move on to either better free options or pay less for better software.
There can only be two reasons, greed or the company is in financial difficulty themselves. Either way it will cost you more time and money in the future. Just find one of the many better options out there.

Very poor software

Very poor software, many much better companies out there. The price plan is way to excessive for what you get! There was a free plan that could have made it worthwhile to use but that has been removed even though they said it would be free forever. So my advice would be software that is cheaper and better or use one of the free ones out there. You don’t want to be tied to a company that lies or excessively charges especially if your company only needs basic accounting.

Free forever was a lie - NOT HAPPY

Adopted as a solution for a very small invoice admin requirement and clear that I was advertising their product (and happy). Bokio stated it was free (for my level of use) and always would be. A year or so later, they have gone back on this guarantee by dramatically removing functionality from the free offering. NOT HAPPY!

I switched to Bokio 18 months ago after…

I switched to Bokio 18 months ago after seeing they promised to never remove the free plan. I've just received an email giving me one month's notice unless I pay £24.99/month and they've very conveniently done this mid way through the financial year. It says everything about the company and it's integrity. There's no way I'm hanging around until they decide to drop me in it again.

Bokio have really dropped us in it

Bokio have really dropped us in it. They have done away with the free and basic payments and just have premium, as the previous review stated. As a sole trader who only requires the most basic of TMD uploads; I could get an accountant for less.
At one months notice and the same day my vat is due this is a really underhand tactic. I guess they think as the government are making us go digital they can now charge what the hell they like. We'll think again I'm off.

Terrible price hike with 30 days notice

Such a shame - I started using this software for my very small business 3 or 4 years ago, the software was free and it was promised that it would always be free.

Then they decided to add a monthly payment, removing some free features, I understood, but I still managed with my free plan - albeit a little more cumbersome, but I made it work.

Yesterday, I read an email to say that they are now hiking up the price to almost £25 per month and removing the free plan.

The worst part is that they are only giving us a month's notice.

This really is not the best way to keep customers - at £25 per month they are no longer competitive.

I will be finishing up my 2022/23 accounts and moving my business elsewhere.

Slimy Pricing Changes & Limited Features

I was previously a fan of the software when it was free. It lacked some features but I understood that because it was free it was understandable. Since then, they've added a premium package which added some new features but also took some features from the free tier.

I wasn't a fan of this but I purchased a premium package because of the new features such as recurring invoices.

Today they announced they would be removing the free tier, removing the balance tier which cost £8.99, removing the business tier which cost £15.99 and replacing it all with a single plan that costs £24.95 per month. With less than a month's notice!

I used Bokio because it was free and simple to use. It's now very expensive and still lacks a lot of features. I will definitely be moving away from this service after using it for 3 years.
