Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 136 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently complain about receiving unexpected parking fines because of unclear signage, hidden restrictions, and sudden tariff changes across various locations. Many visitors also struggle with broken payment machines and confusing instructions that make it nearly impossible to settle fees properly. However, some people mentioned that their formal appeals were automatically dismissed without any genuine consideration of the specific circumstances. Reviewers often describe feeling pressured by debt collection agencies and facing significant financial penalties that cause immense frustration. Others noted that trying to fix these problems wastes considerable time.

No letter for a month and told we can’t appeal as missed the 14 day window

Accidnetly put my partners registration as “II” instead of “11” since the machines don’t show the ones like they do on cars. Anyways i realised my fault and we got a letter saying our 14 day appeal notice had passed even tho they didn’t send a letter or email before that bear in mind it had been just shy of a month since parking there. Couldn’t even appeal it and got fined £100 for 3 hours even though we paid for the ticket! On the photos they sent us of the car you can CLEARLY see the ticket in the windshield. Absolute joke and daylight robbery this is ridiculous.

Charged £20 after winning appeal

After appealing a non payment fine with proof of paying (Bank payment photos)They reduced the fine to £20 from £100. Ridiculous as the evidence obviously proved payment why charge me £20. I will happily pay a bit more to park in non Britannia car park in the future

Completely misleading payment…

Completely misleading payment notification. All designed to con an extra £50 from you
Bold print PARKING CHARGE £100
small print if payed within 14 days £50.
So everyone thinks it’s £100 pounds and just puts it on the back burner for a few weeks, and then has to pay double.
Why does nobody police these scammers.

Nasty organisation

Nasty organisation. Every phone number to contact them was unavailable. Email address, Error 404. Tried to fill out appeal but they demand you declare ownership or hiring the vehicle or loaning the vehicle. You cannot have any other answer and the appeal process blocks you from continuing unless you incriminate yourself or a n other.Mr Hitler would be proud of them!

Their machines are built to scam…

Their machines are built to scam customers. West quay retail park machines do not allow you to pay past 20:00. Which would ensure that you can pay the overnight charge. So if you arrive at 19:15 you can only pay up to 20:00. The machine will not allow you to add on the overnight charge. Rogue traders making their money off hardworking people. I attempted to add extra money onto the ticket and it wouldnt allow me to. Absolute scam and an eye opener to never use their car parks again. Will be warning any and all to avoid this company. I did wonder why the car park was so empty... guess others are already wise to their scam

I strongly advise avoiding this parking…

I strongly advise avoiding this parking operator at all costs. They are extremely unfair and show no consideration toward customers. Even when parking charges are paid, they invent reasons to issue a Parking Charge Notice (PCN).

I paid to extend my parking at the machine at around 6:00 pm, paying exactly the amount displayed for the hours and minutes I selected. Despite this, I later received a PCN stating that the paid amount was incorrect. This is untrue, as I paid precisely what the machine displayed. They later claimed that after 6:00 pm, parking charges are calculated differently, which was not made clear not to use the machine.

I explained this during my appeal, but it was rejected, and I was advised to appeal to POPLA. Although POPLA is presented as an independent body, the parking operator pays the membership fees and appears to have a clear advantage. As expected, my POPLA appeal was unsuccessful, raising serious concerns about fairness and transparency in the process.

Daylight (moonlight) robbery.

Daylight (moonlight) robbery.

Having used the same car park for years to watch football in Southampton I received two fines, nearly spread apart so caught twice, due to a change in tariffs.

Previously payment was up until 2000 hrs which I have always done and did on these two occasions, unaware that a flat payment after 2000 hrs of £5 was now required. Any signposting to this would be on the machine and no notification in the app that I used.

I can only think they’ve changed to policy to profit from football fans using the car park at night. With appeals, unsurprisingly, turned down’

Disgraceful money grabbing company.

AI fine letters and unresponsive to appeals - appalling.

I own two cars and booked one to go to a site for a day’s parking. It didn't start the day of our trip so without thinking, I took the other car and didn’t amend the booking. I have sent details of being the owner of both cars and that the booked car didn’t park that day but our other one did. An AI generated letter completely not specific to our situation has arrived after 3 weeks offering a reduced rate of the fine but not removing it all together. Appears to be a con. Don’t know what to do…

Fined for Parking While Spending Money in Retail Park

Fined for spending 3.5 hours in a retail park carpark whilst Christmas shopping and taking our kids for lunch. Britannia rejected our appeal, so now I have to involve managing agent and local MP. I will not let this drop as it is disgraceful behaviour.

Companies like this should be banned from having any reference to Britain in their name.

I would rather walk 5 miles in the rain…

I would rather walk 5 miles in the rain than use a car park operated by these clowns. I used one of their car parks twice and was fined both times despite paying the parking fee. Poor/wrong signage, wrong information, spend ages figuring out how to pay and then get fined anyway and waste more time appealing.

Absolute scam of a company

Absolute scam of a company, paid £6.20 for 4 hours parking in poole quay, paid in cash as i had some for once and 2 weeks later i get a fine for not paying. As i paid in cash and assumed it would be a physical ticket placed on my car i thought all was well, how wrong could i be! Stupidly in hindsight i threw away the ticket thinking it wasnt needed. Very expensive lesson learned. The way brittania operate is illegal, and yet they seem to get away with it. In future i will pay via an app and get a receipt. Avoid parking in ANY brittania car park i will be making sure myself, friends and family are all aware to Never park in their car parks. Absolute scum. Preying on genuine folks paying their way. No way to appeal without a ticket. Im absolutely fuming. I hope martin lewis picks up on this firm in particular as it seems i am just one of many thousands being unfairly targeted by these utter shamsters. I just hope eventually they go bust as like me others will learn and stop using their scam car parks. AVOID BRITTANIA CAR PARKS AT ALL COSTS!!!!

What a shocking, badly led company. No values

What a shockingly bad company & looking at the sheer quantity of terrible reviews, it is obviously down to really poor leadership.
I attended a private event at a hotel following a funeral and paid the stated parking charge, only to be told by hotel staff that no fee was payable & that I would be refunded by emailing Britannia.
Instead Britannia informed me in no uncertain terms over numerous email exchanges that no refund was due & that I should have known before paying.
Just extraordinary.

Never park here, disgusting service

Absolutely disgusted with this company, I purchased a ticket for whole period of my stay.
I had a charge notice 2 weeks later, I provided proof of payment via bank statement but had no ticket after this long period. And no registration was taken on the machine. Appeal was unsuccessful however I received no notification of this until today and instead 1 month later had a further charge notification saying I had missed the reduced charge period and could no longer appeal further due to the delay in my response.

If you ever make the poor decision to park with this company ensure you keep hold of your tickets for the next few months so you can appeal when you receive a parking charge notice which from my experience is likely

Inept & too lazy to read an appeal

Would have been a zero but had to give a star to register. I parked in a Britannia car park using a hotel. As requested I gave my registration to the hotel reception. For my 5 day stay. I have since received 2 £100 fines for the last two days of my stay. As I clearly didn’t have access to the system the hotel used I had to depend that my information was sent correctly. Clearly they missed 2 days off. I assumed this would be easy to rectify on appeal. But either Britannia staff are lazy and don’t read their appeals at all just send back a decline or they are not capable of comprehending the English language. Currently about to appeal through POPLA. Atrocious experience. Oh and let’s not forget the threat that if you appeal you lose the discount rate of a bargain £60 per ticket.

Absolute piece of crap company who should be held accountable for the fact they just want money and will do anything to get it!!! Completely disgusting group run by someone just sat there counting their money! I wouldn’t put out a fire if any of them were on fire and if you work for this company I hope you burn in hell! I got a ticket when their sinage didn’t make sense appealed but can you guess what got turnt down!!!!!! Appeal to popl but if you do you have to pay full 100 pounds and not discounted rate. Yeah of course because you don’t want people to appeal. I how who ever owns this company and everyone who works for them never make a mistake because I will happily watch them burn

*THEY COMMITTED FRAUD*

*THEY COMMITTED FRAUD*

*THEY DON'T FREEZE DISCOUNTED RATE WHEN APPEALING A TICKET*

Illegally breach our agreement.

Gave me a parking charge, I appealed immediately, they said the the 14 day discounted rate of £60 would be frozen until a decision had been made at which point the 14 days would continue.

This was a complete lie.

Upon getting the verdict they were declining my appeal I went to pay the £60 and they had upped it to £100.

No clear way of contacting them, had to use ChatGPT to find direct emails including of customer service team, complaints team, and that of Brian Parker the apparent CEO.

No response from those guys.

I then reached out to Paula Snowdon the director, Jasmine Quilligan the BDM and Jim Mills the national contracts manager on LinkedIn. No response as of yet.

Parking charges for exceeding the maximum time limit.

I find it difficult to understand the justification for the level of charges imposed for exceeding the maximum permitted parking time. While I recognise that a system of enforcement requires some form of excess charge to discourage misuse, the fees applied often appear wholly disproportionate to the length of time by which the limit has been exceeded. In many cases, a relatively minor overstay results in a charge that bears little relation to any actual loss incurred.

It would be helpful if this company could provide a clear explanation of how these charges are calculated and why such amounts are considered reasonable. Transparency in this regard would go some way towards improving public confidence in the fairness of the system. I have no objection in principle to paying a penalty where rules have been breached; however, I strongly object to the scale of charges routinely levied, particularly where motorists may have had legitimate or unavoidable reasons for exceeding the maximum time.

Ultimately, any parking enforcement regime should be based on charges that are fair, proportionate, and reflective of genuine costs rather than punitive in nature. At present, the amounts charged by this company, and others operating in the same sector, do not appear to meet that standard.
