Well packed quality items
The last review I read rated this company very low. I am a first-time customer and had seen mixed reviews for them but I decided to give them a try. Here's my experience:
I placed my order close to the holidays and made a mistake and had to reach out to their customer service via email. The turnaround time was very good and the issue was resolved on the first contact.
I just received my order today 1/3/2022 and I was impressed by the careful way the order was packed. The glass jars included in the order were well wrapped individually in plenty of bubble wrap. We tried the perishable items right away (Crisps/Chocolate etc) and they tasted great. I was impressed overall by my experience and will definitely be ordering again. I may even subscribe to their monthly Brit-Pack subscription! Sorry to hear someone had a negative experience but I can't fault my order at all. Enjoying my taste of home as we speak! Cheers!
Items are stale and nasty!
This company has a lot of bad reviews, and for very good reason! I ordered a good-sized box of Christmas chocolates, and was pleased to receive them pretty quickly. Unfortunately, upon opening them, I saw that many were very well past their sell-by date. The Galaxy bars, Aeros, and Yorkies were rock hard, dusty and white, and tasteless. The British Food Depot are selling stale old crap passed off as new. Never again will I order from them. They're scammers.

Spent £37 on stuff to send to my partner in Pennsylvania. Took my mo ey and then said sorry address can't be authorised, well I checked it and its correct but I can't get a response when I messaged them. I feel I've been scammed.
Avoid at all costs
Their prices are high, and their shipping costs very high.
First order arrived later than promised but was reasonably well packaged, and the items were as expected.
Second order they messaged to say several heavy items were out of stock, so asked them to refund part of shipping cost. When placing order shipping cost was calculated by weight. BFD said shipping was based on price (the higher the price the higher the shipping cost), so sent screen shots showing shipping was calculated on price, and also suggested that order value was reduced so that should reduce shipping costs based on their statement. They refused to reduce shipping so cancelled order.
Decided to give them another chance and they hadn't started prepping order 14 days after it was placed so cancelled again.
Commnication is dire. Expect to wait at least 3 days to get any response, and that's if you're lucky.

I have something I didn't order, I have not been able to reach the company although I have sent many messages on Facebook and emails, even left a voice-mail but no one has replied. Very unprofessional I expected so much more. Now I'm stuffed with a product I don't want and less money in my purse for nothing.

If there is a no star, I would give it a No star. I had ordered in previous years. Last Nov I placed an order that said was delivered by UPS that could not be traced anywhere. I called at least 3 times and wrote about as many times. Not once did anyone respond. I had to make a claim to PayPal and my money was refunded when PP got no response. The whole process was almost 2 months from making UPS claim to PP refund. I would never buy from a company that was so rude, inconsiderate and have no customer service.

I had some trepidation after reading several horror stories with this company, but I really wanted Rose's Lemon & Lime Fine Cut Marmalade, so I ordered 3 jars. While the order wasn't shipped right away, I think I received the shipped notice 2 or 3 days after ordering, it arrived quickly since I live only about 5 miles from their warehouse. My order of 3 jars arrived in a 1'x1'x 6" corrugated box that had all open seams well taped. The box was full of biodegradable packing peanuts. On top of that, each jar was wrapped in 3/8" bubble wrap. All 3 jars were intact.
Food Arrived Quickly Although Damaged
I ordered three boxes of Bisto. They arrived in a perfectly dry box with the internal paper and polystyrene peanuts bone dry yet two of the Bisto boxes had been exposed to water and had consequently opened. The third box was simply badly handled and slightly crushed. I wrote asking for an explanation and, unlike other reviewers, got an immediate and very favourable response. (I wanted to give them the courtesy of replying before firing off what might've turned out to be another scathing review.)
Bottom line, I would suggest that despite first impressions, they are reputable.

I wish I’d seen these reviews before I purchased!
I ordered Easter gifts for family living abroad almost 3 weeks before the date it needed to arrive. I still had no shipping confirmation after 2 weeks but it took me contacting them 3 times to even get any response. They said my order had to be manually processed but that it was done now and my order would be shipping same day.
My order is now in transit but the expected delivery is a full week after the original shipping confirmation date and misses Easter entirely.
They have not responded to any of my queries about shipping times.
Terrible customer service!
I hope the products are not melted like other reviewers here - that’d be the icing on the cake of a very bad shopping experience.
If this kind of error occurred within my business I would have expedited the shipping at my own cost to get the item there as close as possible to the originally promised delivery date.
Would not recommend!
Excellent Site and Great Customer Service!
I'm definitely a fan of the British Food Depot. I've done some comparative online shopping for British food items, and BFD has the best overall experience around.
Their prices are typically the lowest, with many of their items on sale and others simply lower than other websites. Shipping is usually quite reasonable as well. I tend to buy a lot at a time so I get the most out of my shipping buck, but it never feels too exorbitant here.
Their response time to questions on their Contact page is also stellar. I had a fairly straightforward question that they responded two within about two hours on a midweek afternoon. That isn't always my experience when sending in inquiries online. To me, that tells me they are staying alert for customer comments (good, bad, or otherwise). I appreciate that.
My items always arrive in perfect condition, even when I mix heavier items (like cans or bottles) with more fragile items (like chip/crisp bags). They seem to have a magic about their shipping habits I think!
Overall, I highly recommend their services if you are a ex-pat or simply want to try some British food favorites. Their selection is not always the best (you have to take what they have in stock), but it's pretty varied and they list quantities for each item. I'm already looking forward to my next order!
A Disappointing Christmas Treat
Looking at the reviews. it seems I had a common problem.
We ordered specially for Christmas. The chocolates were all melted. We complained on Christmas Eve as we were so disappointed at the expected treat being ruined. Haven't heard back, despite e-mailing again.
Least they should do is apologize, and some compensation would be nice. All I get from them is E-mails saying I have $3.20 credit (from my expenditure, not as compensation) towards my next order. Not inclined to order anything else with them, the lesson is to check reviews before buying.
Oh, and they are not cheap.

I joined the monthly Brit Box. I was disappointed because I knew the value of the products and my "Christmas" type product box had a few valued items, for the most part candies multiple pack separated items were thrown in..it may have been worth $10, not $35. I understand there is big shipping charges across the pond. This is not my major complaint..It took three requests, with responses, but no action to cancel my monthly subscription. They said they cancelled, but now I cannot get them to refund the $35 charge that I told them before to cancel and they charged anyway, now will not give refund. I have since bought separate items which took a long time to get shipped. Had to ask where package was and they hadn't sent it yet.

Waste of $50, all melted.
My package arrived, I had one item missing (Christmas crackers). I contacted them and they said they will refund for the missing item. The chocolate bars, jaffa cakes and chocolate biscuits were all melted and stuck together. I contacted them again and sent photos and not heard a word from them. Waste of money and poor customer service.

I have ordered from them in past with no problem. However, my last order included 2 boxes of chocolates that were completely melted, hard candies stuck to wrappers and jars of marmite that were extremely warm. I sent an e mail on the day I received the products (which were packed very poorly for any kind of shipment, let alone one with perishable contents). To date I have emailed them 4 times in a week and a half with no response. They don’t have a phone number and there is no other way to contact them other than emails they don’t acknowledge. If orders arrive timely and in tact, there is not a problem. However, when something goes wrong, they are not to be found except at the receiving end of a credit card. I’ve spent a good bit of money with them and deserve better treatment. I no longer trust The British Food Depot.

Excellent service! My order was shipped promptly and it was well packed. None of the crackers or cookies were broken, all in glass was bubble-wrapped, heavy items on the bottom. All-in-all, a very satisfactory transaction.
