I spoke to Laura today and she was just so lovely! She was very friendly, took time to explain things to me, it almost felt like someone I had known before! I've spoken to several lettings agents over the past 2 weeks as I've been seriously searching for a place to rent, but none has been this nice to me on first contact. Whether I get to rent with Burchell or not, I just want to say Laura is amazing. Thanks

Avoid Shirley branch

Sold house via burchells .. worse experience ever .. from not turning up to viewings to giving false information. I wasn’t told of all offers only what was convenient.. I had potential buyers with higher offers knocking on door saying Burchells were not interested in talking to them as they were busy and had already presented offers

I would advise to avoid Shirley branch. They r not professional and do not work in the clients best interest

When I complained I was told their job was to introduce a buyer only and not to necessarily provide a good service.

We had our property evaluated by this…

We had our property evaluated by this estate agent Sheldon branch but we took another agent with better deal and service to sell our property after thorough deliberation. Now we are looking for property to buy in which some of the property that interest us were advertised by this estate agent. Unprofessionally they refused us to view their property to us. Alibis given were already under offer which is not as still on the market, need to get their mortgage advisor and never get a reply with unless you call them. The most unprofessional and unfriendly estate agent I've come across.

Disgrace of an estate agent

1 star is being kind. A vile estate agents. Not sure how landlords and seller give these lot business. I’ve been trying to enquire for various properties for weeks and months to no avail. I even popped into the branch to see why I was being ignored when I even tried ringing. A person below said they so pushy on using their own brokers and if you decline they don’t go with you when it comes to accepting your offer. This is so true and I personally witnessed this. Diabolical of a business.
I would stay well clear of these guys.
All they love doing is taking your details down so they can build their silly portfolio.

Great job!

The staff we were in contact with in the Castle Bromwich branch went above and beyond to help us secure our home. Overcoming some hurdles that were beyond any of our control. Great job and easily contactable.

Vile company and totally…

Vile company and totally unprofessional. As previous reviewer mention about pushiness onto using a broker of their choice, so much so they cancelled a viewing because I already a broker sorted. This company should be audited thoroughly by the ombudsman.

Shocking so called customer service

Shocking so called customer service. I’ve spent over a year attempting to get the secured deposit moved across via the Sheldon branch, to no avail. Birkenhead main office have been giving me the run around for 2-months, still no monies, shameful so called service

One star is too generous!

After sales department is disgusting! Have been told that I shouldn’t expect them to complete anything quicker than 4-6 months. In their emails they use the expression, ‘we are working on this ASAP’. Today I have been told ASAP means, when they can. So fed up!!! Should have been able to complete in time for the changes in stamp duty but they have admitted to not starting any work on the file, losing paperwork and being too busy to accommodate the work they have. Our sale is not part of a chain, searches are complete. It should be simple. Cannot stress how much I regret using Burchell Edwards.

Take good photos and plenty of them

As a tenant we had a very bad experience from when we were given notice to trying to obtain our deposit, which they held on to until as long as they could.
We were given plenty of notice, which was fine. But we received threatening emails saying we had not responded to the notice and would be passed on to the courts to action. We had to make sure everything was documented.
When we did move out, we had to chase up to find out when we would get the deposit. Only to receive photos of damages they claim we had made, even though these were highlighted on the original inventory report.
They wanted to argue with me even though we have signed the original inventory report and the landlord are obtaining quotes to deduct from the deposit.
I contacted the TDS and they had until 20th April to put the claim in, which was over a month after we moved out.
Burchell Edwards responded on the final day, saying the landlord isn't putting a claim in and we would have the full deposit refunded.
So you would think we would get it back in our bank within 2 days,
Instead we got paid 7 days later!
When we had to pay anything to them it has to be there and then on that day.
If we are late paying them then they can charge us silly money. So I wonder if they would accept my charges for their delay in paying me????

You have to realise these are part of Ashley Adams, who we originally went through when looking for the rented property.

The staff we dealt with didn't have a clue at the beginning, in fact they were that bad we thought it was funny.

Just make sure you take plenty of photos and confirm everything even after the inventory report. And make sure you cover everything no matter how tiny it is or obvious!

Just want you money and will lie if…

Just want you money and will lie if need be. We were charged £150 for photos (no other estate agent charges for photos to be done ) but we were told if we sold through them it would be refunded! Lies!!! Also no estate agents to do viewings as all too busy (not sure what service I paid for) very disappointing! These are just a couple of issues I had with the sheldon branch! Avoid.

Very Unprofessional! Seems as though they are out for themselves and that’s it…

We have had a very negative experience as first time buyers with the Sheldon branch. We first viewed a house last July which was being sold at auction, at the time had no issues with them. We were outbid on the house and that was that. Feb this year the house was back up for sale, I phoned to ask about it and was told the buyers just disappeared so they were selling it again. Asked for a viewing which we agreed on a time but received no confirmation via email ect. Phoned again about the viewing and was told we couldn’t book a viewing without speaking to their finance department to go through our affordability. We told them we have our own broker and a decision in principle but they were adamant.

We spoke to them anyway so we could get the viewing, never had any information sent over from the finance team, also never heard anything about a viewing. Phoned again a day later and again weren’t very helpful, said we would get a call back. I then had to phone again! And finally got a viewing, didn’t receive any confirmation but honestly it didn’t cross my mind until it was too late. Went to the property to view and no one was there, when we phoned, they said the viewing was never confirmed and they don’t have the keys.

We were then appointed Louise, Sales Manager. Louise was very good compared to the others at the branch and we received all emails etc. We were told that quite a few offers had been made and they were significantly over the asking price but that she would keep us updated, which she did and roughly a week later she phoned to say the offer fell through. There were just quite a few things that didn’t add up and at this point we had lost all faith with them as an estate agent. We made an offer based off the condition of the house & the recent house prices in the area.

During this time we found another house that they were selling on rightmove and we asked to view, we got a viewing but when we went to the house it was the wrong one. We phoned to say there had been a mix up and we wanted to view the one up the road and was told that house was under the Castle Bromwich branch and again they had quite a few offers but would keep us updated is things changed. I just think things could have been done to confirm what house we had seen on righrmove since the number is never shown as it was a big waste of time viewing the wrong house and missing out on the other one.

We were asked for our best and final offer on the original house but were told the seller had gone with a cash buyer, which I personally believe could have been told to us sooner to save getting our hopes up and wasting time making offers that were never going to be accepted.

Overall, We are just very disappointed with the service, a lot of the staff are quite unprofessional and it just doesn’t seem like we were taken seriously as buyers. Has really put me off going for any other houses that they are selling and I have told everyone I know who is buying to steer clear because it’s just not worth the hassle

Excellent Customer Service…

I started house hunting sometime in June 2020 and was so fortunate to be assigned Kelly at Castle Bromwich branch. From the very beginning she was so supportive, always letting me know when there were houses that met our budget and taste available and what won my heart was her tenacity and determination to find us our perfect home.
She was so patient with my mom who was very picky on a budget and was always one call away, even updating me with information others wouldn't have bothered to. Also she always booked me in for viewings at my convenience, not once rescheduling or having excuses for all the times I requested.
I have collected the keys to my new home which Kelly saw and knew was the right fit for my family. Every timeline she gave was accurate and she supported us through till the very end, which is today, when we got the keys to our new home!
Thank you Kelly! Your effort is much appreciated and I will continually refer as many people as I can to Burchell Edwards due to the exceptional customer service you rendered towards our purchase!

Excellent mortgage advice for first-time buyers

As a first-time buyer, mortgages can be daunting. I honestly had no clue where to begin or what the process was. I booked an appointment with Dani (Shirley branch) and she guided me through every part of buying a house. She helped me understand our affordability, what kind of mortgages are available, and explained all the property-buying ‘jargon’ that was completely new to me. She even provided me with a full breakdown of the typical admin costs buyers can I expect which I found extremely useful.

After my phone call with Dani, I came away feeling less stressed and more confident about purchasing my first home. It was great to be told everything I needed to know and have all my questions answered. Thank you Dani for making the start of our journey so much easier.

Pushy salesman only willing to progress…

Pushy salesman only willing to progress your offer if you use their in house mortgage broker which are no cheaper than a comparison site but charge you £600 for the privaledge.

I would never use these to market my house, they get more commission from selling a buyer a mortgage than the sale of your property. They do not act in the best interests of the seller.

Sheldon Branch Birmingham

I called twice to view a property I was greatly interested in to be told there are ongoing legal issues and I will be first in line to view when this was resolved. I also followed this up with an email which was ignored, to then find out the property has been sold. As a first-time buyer this completely puts me off ever wanting to deal with any branch of Burchell Edwards and this sort of behaviour creates speculation there's back-door selling going on at this branch. Complete liars working for this company and anyone considering selling their house through them needs to avoid doing so if you want a fair sale!

Highly Recommend Burchell Edwards

I am about to complete on my first house this Friday and could not be any happier with the service i got through Liam Mann at their Eastwood, Notts office!

Liam was recommended to me via a friend as they had just as good experience with him as i have. Right from the start he had a friendly attitude and helped work out what i could afford and what was best as i had a seen a house i really wanted to go for. Things didnt work out on that one but soon after i found the one i finally got.

Liams ability to make the worst situations even slightly better was a massive thing for me, especially because its my first time and i am on my own. Little things go a long way and Liams work ethic and ability made all the difference, from giving me a call over confused emails to responding to me even when he was on annual leave!

Every penny spent with Burchell Edwards is money well spent and i am 100% going to continue dealing with them on my future endeavours. I cannot stress enough how much everyone should use Burchell Edwards and more specifically Liam (where possible) as i cannot fault them one bit!

I would recommend to steer well clear…

I would recommend to steer well clear of this agent. We are now unfortunately bound into contract with this agent but will not be renewing. Big promises but deliver nothing. We had agreed a rate with the local branch (Erdington) and promised the agreed rate however found that this information was not provided up to head office. There's a lack of communication and unprofessionalism. Dealing with both tenants and landlord. I would not recommend this agent at all and wish I had searched for reviews before committing to the agent.
