I must have bought a book as a gift from this company before last Xmas. I was shocked to discover last evening that since then they have been taking £15 a month out of my account. I should check my account more often, but had no idea I had been signed up to a monthly subscription. I have had no correspondence via email, post or text from the company so wasn't aware of the monthly transactions they have been taking from my account.
I emailed the company and had an automatic reply to say that they are very busy at the moment and a response from them may be delayed. I phoned my bank who have promptly disputed the payments, and are sending me a new card with new bank details to prevent further teansactions from taking place.
What a scam.

I ordered 33 books and 30 were not available, making the membership not worthwhile. I was required to find the return of books in order to cancel my membership. They have wasted my time and I feel like I am paying for their poor systems and service. It has left me with a bad taste.

I bought a book with my debit card. Then for over a year they took £15 a month from this card. I had failed to check my bank account closely enough so I have lost over £150 and received nothing for it, not even a monthly notification that they were taking money from me. Very nasty scam
BUUKs publicly claim they don't know who you are because you haven't provided your details. This is misleading because they know exactly who you are from your name and email address. in my case they claimed on trustpilot that they could not know who I was but wrote to me directly telling me which book I had bought and when.
Again BUUKS pretend that they don't have the information to know who I am but they wrote to me and said "Your membership was created on the 29-07-2021 when you purchased “ Failures of State” " Will Trustpilot please stop allowing this company to falsely claim ignorance of the people they are scamming?

I bought a massive haul of about 30 books a few years back WITH the 15 monthly membership as I still saved roughly £100 from retail price! With free delivery and they were here within 2 days.
I then cancelled my membership on their site no need to call or email just cancel membership from my account. No harm no foul
For all of these reviews saying they did not know they were signing up for a subscription they obviously didn't read anything while checking out as you have to click that you are signing up to a membership and all the books have membership and non membership prices on them. It literally says 'When you shop at the member price, you also create a membership. '
It's not theft or scam its simply cheaper books for a membership price of £15 a month which you can cancel anytime.

Fraudulent site. Please avoid using this site. They run a scam where they automatically enrol you into a £15 a month membership. I mistakenly bought a £3 book from them in March 2022 and they took £15 for more than a year. I was going through a personal tragedy so could not monitor my account unfortunately. This is the kind of site that needs to be avoided by all online users. A disgrace to Danish businesses.
Adding response to buuk query below: I was on your site from 16th March 2022 to April 28th 2023, which is the date when I got out of your "membership". If you still can't find me then your IT is faultier than I thought. I can provide statements and purchase invoice that prove my feedback. Nevertheless the issue here is not me as similar feedback has been provided by many. Your so called membership is a tiny font detail which is not made obvious, hence the terrible feedback you have been getting consistently. Membership sites, for instance Amazon prime, sends you email reminders if you've unused benefits. You have just take upward of £180 for nothing. Though you seem to have lovely monthly invoices on your site that you never send to customers. Just in case it reminds them of the membership!
I am not interested in war of words with you. If you even remotely care about books or readers, please stop looting customers. If your business model is membership based make that the first second and third thing you tell customers. Please be professional and take lessons from other membership sites. In the current form you're nothing better than a cheap scammer.

This company is an outright scam. Please, please, do not buy! They use furtive tactics to sign you up to a 'monthly membership. No newsletters, no membership reminders, no membership marketing of any kind.
This is how they make their money by hoping 'members' don't realise they're paying a monthly fee.
Underhanded con artists. Stay away!

This is quite shocking. I am the same position as a previous reviewer, Michael Goldberg. I never signed up for a membership but have been paying for one for more than two years. What a terrible, cynical con! I have just stopped the membership.
I phoned and the company refused to reimburse me in any way. I have asked my bank to dispute this month's payment.
Keep away from this company. Use the wonderful World of Books or another of the reputable suppliers.

Now contacted bank who will be pursuing this as a scam!!!!! You have replied today to my rating of zero for you on 26/04/2023. i have attempted on several occassions to contact you on the number you have on your web site...this number rings then you get cut off when it is answered... this is a tactical way of avoiding customer complaints... your replys all indicate on the trust pilot reviews the same methods used... i have cancelled via my bank and will be fully pursuing the money you have taken from my accoount. UPDATED same day as the poor reply received from BUUUk

I bought one book and since then they charge me £15 a month - I did not know it was subscription! On their website it says £9.99??? No contact details. Way to go, guys!

This company says it is clear what you are signing up to but it wasn't when I bought a book over a year ago! No correspondence after the original purchase about the membership I have been paying every month and they continue to take £15 even though the price is now £9.99. I've never bought anything since and they refused any amount of refund. Massively out of pocket and not what I call good customer service!.... Now get ready for the automated response!!!...

Well-packaged, super-competitive price, next day delivery. Very impressive. Highly recommended!

I had no problems whatsoever with this purchase. The website was clear and easy to use and the package arrived when I was told it would.

i dont understand how people werent aware of the membership fee- its posted right on the homepage, says "members price" under each cheaper price label and you have to accept the membership before completing transaction. Its similar to how you can become members of supermarkets for cheaper prices. Its well worth the fee if you are buying more than a few books- you can immediately cancel the membership after buying which was very easy to do.
