I've been a member of the club for over 50 years and it appears that having reached a good level of service, it's now in decline. What's more the prices now charged are far to high for what's suppose... See more

both myself and my partner decided to join the club as we were new to caravanning and we found the club was good at the start, we aimed to stay on various sites thoughout the UK with them with it being roughly 1 stay per month as a long weekend normally. we arrived at the first site (bellingham) to be met with lovely staff and they couldnt have been more welcoming and showed us to our pitch and explained the best way to set out our windbreaks for our dogs etc which was lovely, these staff are a credit to the club. We then went to another site where we were put in the corner on a hardstanding pitch which we said wasnt any good for us as we needed to set up wind breaks so asked if we could go for a pitch near the centre of the site with grass so we could get an area as per our booking notes for the dogs which seemed to be a lot of effort but we got a pitch change. Whilst on this site we seemed to feel like we were being judged all the time when we were in the caravan due to us having an older caravan and all the units around us were around 12 - 18 month old motor homes so didnt feel to comfortable on this site on an evening and felt we had to keep ourselves to ourselves.
The final straw was when we went on our 3rd trip where we just wanted to get away and have a break away from home after loosing out 11 year old dog that week suddenly. When we arrived the first thing from the staff on site was "we hope your dogs are quiet" as our dogs bark whe in the company truck whilst parked up and we are away from the truck. But they are quiet once out and settled. however whilst setting up one of our dogs snapped their metal clip on their lead which was attached to a ground anchor to run over to say hello to another dog which we went straight over to and got our dog back and re attached them to a new lead to the ground anchor and appologised to the owner and the staff on site at this point came over on their bikes and said "young man we have a complaint" which was rather demeaning terminology used against myself as im in my late 20's they assume they can talk down at us. the other persons dog was all fine and it was all settled. however the following morning we were asked to leave site imediatley due to the head office having reports of the "dog attack" and we were to leave with imediate effect. both myself and my partner are now banned for life from joining the club due to this incident been blown out of preportion. if our dog had "attacked" we can assure you that other persons dog would have been almost dead and would have certainly needed an urgent visit to the vets from the way we were advised by customer services about the incident.
Due to the way the incident was over exagerated we were in touch with customer services as they needed a report about the incident and they have since refunded us our memebership fee.
However if your a young couple who doesnt have the latest model caravan, tiny tea cup dog that is the most well trained dog in the world (ideally no dog) and a brand spanking new car dont feel welcome at "the friendly club" as we most certainly dont feel welcome in any way shape or form.
so if you have a large dog, a slightly older caravan and a company pickup truck for towing dont even bother joining the club as they will find a way to push you out in one way or another. we are certainly never joining either of the 2 clubs now for the rest of our life as they keep contradicting their site rules thoughout all the customer services contact emails we will just stick to independant sites from now on. we now know why the touring cravan holiday industry doesnt have many younger couples in them as they all like you to be retired and have the latest car and caravan or motorhome otherwise it is effort for them to serve you.
we are seriously concidering selling up since this incident as we feel out of place with regards to the last 2 trips we have had with the club as we dont feel we fit in the "click" of the clubs as we are hard working young individuals with dogs who are our family, but they expect you to ditch the kids (dogs) to stay in the clubs.
I just joined this year and have just bought my first little Go Pod towing caravan and I've been trying to book a short 3 day weekend in April and one in June in one of their Scottish sites with zero success in any of them!!!! Very frustrated, wish I
hadn't bothered joining now 😞
Whilst I am a member of said club, be aware if you are disabled, or over weight.
The caravan club offer insurance, BUT!!
They insist you fit a certain wheel clamp.
All the clamps demand you get on your knees to fit it.
If you struggle getting on your knees and back up, ( disabled, overweight, wheelchair, amputee, knee replacement etc) go away.
OR! Pay for a thatcham alarm, OR! Impound your van, OR ! Take out a less value policy.
I was told directly, I had to fit these clamps, I stated I was disabled, and cannot fit one of these 3 designated clamps.
Answer “we cannot insure you”
How dare you, you discriminative pigs.
This looks so bad on this club which endorses this discriminatory behaviour.
I have spoken to the club, they acted surprised.
So why are they using this lot of ignorance.
Caravan and camping club pitches are too narrow for modern caravans and awnings
I'm a new member, I've tried numerous times, over 3 months, to book and there's never any availability. Money wasted. Just book direct with a site.
Holts lodge is appauling it's literally the back of bungalow a muddy track not well maintained at all old farm machinery just thrown in the hedges a couple of pitches that are obviously taken by long stay campers a pitch that was marked with our name on was water logged and very small definitely not worth 25 pounds a night i would definitely not bother owner very rude all I said on the phone call was the truth and I was told I was RUDE !! AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Discriminated against for being disabled
Complained about this and whitnessing sexual comments
There reply no further action and as i posted this on social media my membership suspended
The only good thing they have done for me saved me money
We used to be very happy members of CCC and after a break with not having a motorhome we decided to get a caravan and join again. We bought our caravan, booked a lovely site and took our second hand but new to us caravan to site (oh there was no pro-rata price- we had to pay full term even though we were already into the season :/). Amazing managers and we felt welcome. After chatting with the managers it turns out that letting your shared owner (your son) use the caravan a couple of times a year is called "sub-letting". I understand sub-letting to be earning money from your asset but anyway. So I spoke to a gentleman in CCC to discuss that this was a misunderstanding but was told that we had 30 days PRIOR to moving on site where we could cancel. I explained that I work abroad and when arriving in country we decided and bought the caravan, booked the site and paid- usually you get 7 days at least as a cooling off period- especially when its full price for a seasonal site. But apparently not. There isn't much that I am aware of where you don't get a 7 day cooling off period. But after paying nearly £3000 we had to move the caravan off site without any of that money being returned. Very disappointed with what used to be an amazing and compassionate group/ company. We found another amazing site nearby who obviously allow that your own son can use the caravan every so often with rules.
If I could give zero stars I would. Joined in August and have been unable to find any sites we can book via the SiteSeeker app - utterly rubbish archaic design, no filters etc - or via telephone, since when I have called the 'systems have been down'. I believe I was told I had 80 days to cancel, I am a week over the apparent 8 weeks cancellation period and they are quibbling a refund. Have cancelled my membership as it is utterly pointless and will persist with pursuing a refund since we have gained absolutely nothing from this useless subscription. The site is appalling, the app is worse, the customer services pass you onto someone else and systems for cancellation and refund are overly complicated. I have used other, free, online sites to book time away in our van without issue. As it is, the C&CC is light years behind and have the audacity to charge for what amounts to no benefit at all. I'd advise you avoid and use other apps and sites out there that provide far, far superior experiences. Not at all surprised that 66% of reviews here are 1 star.
So the good news is that CCC sites tend to be quiet, its members only, so the sorts of folks that camp once a year and spend it getting drunk and keeping the site awake tend not to be there. The bad news is that the app or website are both light years behind. You can book a club site online, but that is the minority of sites. The smaller owned CL sites you need to phone. You cant search on the app for facilities or availability of a CL. You often leave a voicemail and if and when they call you back it may be to say they are full. Fine if you are just heading away for a weekend, but poor otherwise - technology has been around for a long time to avoid this. Look at the key websites like pitch up campsites - they all have this functionality, so why don't CCC?
Also the listings, Half the CL sites have either no pictures or just one vague picture. Many dont have anything telling you about the site, you just see the boxes they ticked in terms of facilities, this was probably great back in the day of dial up internet, but now we have Broadband and 5g, why are they not encouraged to give better info - its just poor. This is our first year with our campervan, we wont be renewing our membership
Booked a site at Ravenglass for 2 nights on the Monday to stay the following sat and sun paid £25 deposit by Thurs I fell ill with covid realising I was too unwell I rang caravan and camping club to see if I could transfer the date from 6th to
26th Oct but was told I couldn't and wouldn't refund my deposit which is fair enough but I can't see why they couldn't move the date is not as if I was cancelling it all together robbers dogs!!!
We have just returned from a three week holiday in our caravan. The first week we stay at the club site at winchcombe, then we moved down to the club situation Bude.
We have thoughly enjoyed our time at both sites. The staff are wonderful at winchcombe and Bude nothing is too much trouble and the sites are kept beautifully clean and well maintained. We are looking forward to more visits next.
Thank you all for making our holiday so enjoyable. Lynda & Geoff Bown.
Our first camping trip in a good 20 years had all the hallmarks of being a holiday to remember. The forecast was good and Sandringham came highly recommended, for its clean facilities and picturesque location in the woods.
In this respect it met our expectations. We hadn't, however, factored in the Camping and Caravanning Club itself. Thanks to them, we endured a cold, miserable time on some of the coldest days the UK had experienced in months.
The lady who met us at the gate and led us by bicycle to our pitch was lovely. We set up our tent, lit our stove and enjoyed the evening. The next morning we were visited by a different warden who barked: “You can’t burn wood” and when we questioned why, repeated his dictum, with added ferocity.
This order came out of the blue, and was perplexing. We understood campfires were not allowed, which is why we chose a wood burning stove over a fire pit. The stove is enclosed and has a tall chimney. This stove was also suggested by the club itself. There’s even an article on their website about the best stoves to buy and ours is on it. Nothing in the site rules or our terms and conditions made any mention of the burning of wood, or wood burning stoves.
To try and make some sense out of this man’s orders, we called customer services. Then followed a full afternoon of Jo the customer services supervisor attempting to justify the rules. They don't allow stoves but they allow BBQs, and wood fired pizza ovens. And stoves if they are in a "proprietary unit." Just not outside a tent. These rules aren't public, BTW, but "internal" so you've no chance of knowing or adhering to them in advance.
Basically they don't want you sitting outside a tent under the stars warming yourself with a stove. They want you indoors, preferably hermetically sealed in a warm caravan. If you've got a tent, get in your sleeping bag.
very poor website/app tried to book a simple weekend stay what a faff won't be bothering again stick to camc
Apparently 'the friendly club' until you want to cancel your membership.
CAMC cancelled over online chat no bother but this lot want a covering letter and some paper membership cards back. Whats wrong with an email and maybe a pic of the cards cut up? They either can't keep up with modern tech or they're just stubborn and want to make it difficult to cancel.
Avoid!!!! the company has a CEO who doesn't even have an email address? Unhelpful staff Naomi been dealing with my complaint and not even once gave me a call as requested! asked me to escalate it their manager Donna and she added the same email address. Been dangling for more than a month!
As a first time camper, I specifically called their customer service to find out what I needed and they did not tell me there needs be a specific lead so I ended up whole one day without power and food and they are not taking the responsibility! whats the point of phone staff for the presale query when they can not help ?? We have been with ccc for many years but just lately their website makes offers it does not keep or is misleading. The website itself is not easy to navigate and you end up starting from scratch. 4 times we have tried to book this year with bookings going wrong and pricing not to the offers made.
Things have got worse over the last few years and we will not be renewing our membership.
You go on the campsite you have chosen and at the bottom it says special offers with a* in which many don’t apply. Disgusting service.
I have never encountered a camping company as inept as this. They have the audacity to charge a membership fee and then have no availability ever for any site that anyone would ever want to stay at. Please save your money and either use the Caravan and Motorhome Club or look for independent sites. The membership fee for these shysters is a waste of your hard-earned.
Stayed at the Leek campsite with 3 excited kids to visit Alton towers. The campsite was quite (minus the 4 am flight path into Manchester) heavy sleepers won’t be any of the wiser. The toilet facilities were excellent nice and cosy and well cleaned. The laundry facilities immaculate and also the dishwashing area. The women and her husband extremely friendly and helpful. Felt safe and secure at night. Would definitely visit again.
I had to cancel my booking today as my mother has been diagnosed with lung cancer and multiple brain tumours and my sister and I are struggling to care for her . I needed to cancel at short notice due to her fast changing condition. The gentleman that took my call was kind and supportive suggesting the best option for me to take as I wasn't sure and I ended up with a full refund of my deposit. I was so grateful and felt I had joined the " Caring Club"
