Would have left no stars if possible.
Hired a motorhome for our holiday to Newquay. Three weeks before we were going, the motorhome got cancelled. No reason given as to why and claiming a refund was not offered straightaway. Only a selection of other suitable vehicles. Had to email to request a refund which I feel should be an option as soon as it was cancelled. Then had to spend more money hiring another one as there was little available. Wouldn’t use again.

Hired a van through camptoo first week…

Hired a van through camptoo first week in August. The communication was few and far between, the deposit procedure wasn't explained properly. I wish we would have looked at hiring privately, we paid £1058 to camptoo for 6 nights, found out we could hsve hired the van ftom the owner for £480. Don't know why they add a charge for cleaning when the van owner cleans it himself?!! My advice..look around , you can get a lot cheaper.

Thank you for your review. The prices for the vehicle are set by the owner themselves and Camptoo only adds their servicefee on top of that which is only a small percentage.

The cleaning fee is also setup by the owner themselves. This fee is to ensure that the vehicle is thoroughly sanitised and so you can be sure the previous vehicle is properly cleaned from the last rental.

Camptoo were very clear in the hire

Camptoo were very clear in the hire, pick up and return of the hirers. Communication was clear as to payments and the deposit was returned immediately after the return. Would use this site again.

All went really well for us. Van was great and information/process was simple. We did not need any help from Camptoo so cannot really comment on their service if things dont go to plan though!

No refund when van broke down

I rented a Campervan through this website. The van broke down - broken clutch, 40 miles into my journey. This could not be repaired and I had to find an alternative van. I have not received a refund because “this is at the owner’s discretion”, so I paid for a van that I was unable to use through no fault of mine.

Thank you for writing a review. It is a very unlucky situation that a vehicle stops working after 40 miles. When a vehicle breaks down during a travel any refund is indeed a matter that has to be handled by a travel insurance.

The customer happiness team has informed that the owner did offer a free rental for the same period in the future.

Painful damage claim process

I am a motorhome owner and let me tell you avoid hiring your motorhome through camptoo at all costs. The amount they charge and fees compared to what you get in return is not worth it. We currently have a damaged bumper from a renter at the moment. I mean the whole damage claim process is really painful from start to finish but it’s the last part that really gets me. We request a £1000 deposit from a renter before hire incase there are any damages. If there is no damage they will get it back and if there is then the cost will be decucted from the deposit and remainder given. The renter doesn’t necessarily have to pay the full £1000 deposit. They can have an option to pay a bit more on insurance and significantly reduce the deposit amount. Either way there is still a £1000 deposit. If the damage is over the £1000 deposit you then have to go through the daily insurance. The insurance expects you to pay the deposit excess of £1000 and they will pay the difference which is fine. In this case the bumper damage is over £1500. Quote was uploaded and the insurance company assessed the damage and authorised it. So my gripe is Camptoo will not release the £1000 deposit to me to pay the garage when the repair is done until I provide proof of payment. I have to fork out this money and wait to get it back. I agree that proof of payment is required. After all the renter needs to know where there money is going but this can be done after the deposit has been released and repair completed. Do they think people just have a spare £1000 sitting around. Absolutely shocking service. They said they have to wait for the renters approval before they can release the deposit without proof of purchase. Last time I checked we are the ones who have broken bumper not the renters. They obviously think we are going to run away with the money. Even tho insurance has authorised the claim and official quotes have been uploaded. If this is the case then why don’t they pay the garage direct. Problem solved. The process is supposed be simple and take the stress away from owners renting out their motorhome. All I have had is stress. There is absolutely no support whatsoever. They take their over-inflated fee and leave you in the lurch. If the renter turns round and declines to release the deposit without proof of payment then how am I supposed to pay for my repair. I can’t afford to fork out £1000. If You are looking to hire your motorhome out go to go boony. They charge less of a fee for using their site and pay the amount of the repair directly into your account providing you give them all the damage information, an official quote and insurance authorisation.

As an owner it is a risk to hold into account that renters are allowed to first request a proof of purchase. Regardless if they take out an excess risk insurance they are able to request a proof of payment and is by default requested.

When you provide a proof of payment it will normally be paid out withing 5 workingdays.

This was our first experience of renting our motorhome we found the whole experience very positive and well organised highly professional.

We now have two more bookings and I’m looking forward to inviting the families to using our motorhomes also helps create a small revenue to maintain the vehicle.

Tried to use the service in Poland

Tried to use the service in Poland - camptoo.pl. Great service but one nuance. You can not rent a camper if you don't have polish driving license. First, I made a reservation, payed for it and on the next step I found that insurance does not cover driving license issued in Ukraine. Reservation canceled, got my money back.
