Previously I've had few issues

Previously I've had few issues. Caunce O'Hara have now started using an internet portal, for "collecting your insurance documents". This complicated matters for me as I could not log in and failed to get a password reset email. I emailed in and received a prompt and helpful response.

So after a minor inconvenience I thought everything would be OK. It seems the first time I tried to forward on my insurance schedule to a customer, they refused it as it has missing cover information. Information that shows in the quote that was accepted

Based on historical performance I'm hoping this will be resolved quickly, but for now, I have to deduct some stars since I'm currently experiencing headaches.

Poor service, not joined up + misleading call handlers

Seemed OK & helpful initially, until I needed to put a claim in. They sent me on a wild goose chase, then mis sold a policy to me. Which despite me giving full information, COH conceded they had mis sold a policy to me & a refund was made.

Surprisingly difficult to pay for my…

Surprisingly difficult to pay for my insurance - took over a month to sort it out, with several emails and 2 telephone calls. It was very confusing as some emails told me I had paid and then this would be followed by another email telling me no payment had been received. Once it was all cleared up, I asked for confirmation of the 3 insurance policies I have with Caunce O'Hara and I'm still waiting for this confirmation 2 months later. I will be moving to a different provider when my insurance is due for renewal

Service level down, prices up

I have used your service for 3 plus years because the prices were competitive and the service felt personal. On the most recent interactions, I didn't have the feeling that I was in safe hands and did not feel reassured that the product was right. No going over key points and the pricing uncertainty. For professional, indemnity and specialist business insurances I don't want to feel like I am dealing with an admin who doesn't provide much reassurance

A mixed bag

Liked being able to talk to a real person. Disliked that you also took money from account for the previous insurance as well as new insurance and I still don't have those funds back despite 2 weeks of asking

Caunce O'Hara cancelled me after 16 years!

Caunce O'Hara cancelled me after 16 years! I am a small limited company and had PI insurance with them from 2009-2025. Nothing had changed in my business, I had no claims, but on the renewal date they said they could no longer insure me! They offered to extend it for 3 weeks to allow me to find another insurer, but charged me a premium for it. They were previously very good but I can't recommend them now.

Trying to get a refund is a nightmare!

Trying to get a refund on a policy which automatically renewed as I didn't realise my card had been stored on the system.
Was assured 11 days ago it would be sorted. Spoken to someone today who was apologetic only to find its not been done and now needs to go to a team leader and they'll update me.

Used them a few times over the years but this will be the last time I ever use them now!

PII with Caunce O' Hara since 2020

I've had my professional indemnity insurance with Caunce O' Hara since 2020, after finding out that an ex-employer company was covered by them. Initially their quote to me was quite a lot higher annually than the quote they offered to a friend of mine that I recommended them to, who does a similar job & was looking for similar cover. After I called them to complain, they lowered my premium to match his. So I would recommend people shop around initially, to ensure they're getting the best deal for the same professional insurance product. My premium has remained the same two years in a row, which is very welcome at a time when most companies seem to increase their price just for the sake of it, to make more profits & scr*w their customers. I've not ever had to claim, so I don't know how robust that part is - hopefully I'll never find out!

Tried to rip us off for £20 in vouchers after 15 years of business when recommending a friend.

After 15 years of giving Caunce my business for my limited company, I recommended my wife to them to take out a freelancer policy. She took out a policy, but when we attempted to claim the two £10 vouchers for recommending a friend, we were denied. The excuse given was that my wife's policy was from a different company. 15 painful E-mails later we finally got the vouchers. I noticed at my renewal that the exact company that we were told my wife's policy was with, Markel, were the same insurers as my company's policy. When I queried this I also found out that Markel was the parent company of Caunce! Disgraceful behaviour!

I cancelled my renewal immediately and will give my business elsewhere. The day after I cancelled my renewal, Caunce then took the money from my account (today 21st Jan 2025) and sent me policy documents. These have now been cancelled. Again, disgraceful behaviour!
