CB aka COMEDY BANKING-but not at all funny.

I have been a customer of Clydesdale Bank since 1973. I have witnessed the steep decline in service quality and professionalism of this organisation first hand. They have left me no choice other than to move to another bank.
My wife tried to make purchases in House of Fraser's store in Glasgow on Wednesday. Three different bank cards were tried covering two different bank accounts. All were declined repeatedly despite more than sufficient funds being available. My wife called the Customer Service phone number on the back of her cards. Response on phone was a recorded message simply advising that "this service is not available".
No alternative phone number provided or call transfer option. No phone number appeared on the till to enable the retailer to contact Clydesdale Bank.
I contacted my Private Banking contact at head office in Glasgow, who's services I am charged a monthly fee for. Waste of space. He advised that our bank cards had not been blocked by the bank so it must be a fault with Fraser's system. However, numerous customers used cards to pay on the same machines that we tried. The only cards to be declined were our Clydesdale Bank cards.
THE BANK SUGGESTED TO MY WIFE THAT SHE GO TO THE BRANCH AT St. VINCENT PLACE AND COLLECT £8630.00 IN CASH, WALK THROUGH GLASGOW CITY CENTRE BACK TO FRASERS TO PAY FOR THE GOODS!!! UNBELIEVABLE BUT TRUE.
My wife could not leave with her goods on the Wednesday as we could not pay for them thanks to Clydesdale, so we both had to return the store on Thursday. EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM WITH ALL CLYDESDALE BANK CARDS. AGAIN, MANY CUSTOMERS PAYING WITH CARDS ON THE SAME TERMINALS THAT WE WERE USING.
BANK CONTINUED TO BLAME THE RETAILER.
I WAS GIVEN CONTACT DETAILS FOR A DEPARTMENT WITHIN CLYDESDALE CALLED "EXECUTIVE COMPLAINTS", COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. ALL TALK AND NO SOLUTIONS.

ULTIMATELY THE ONLY SOLUTION AVAILABLE WAS FOR MYSELF TO COLLECT THE CASH AND WALK THROUGH GLASGOW TO FRASERS.

The above is one of a number of problems we have experienced as customers of Clydesdale Bank;
* I have been trying to move an account from TSB to Clydesdale for nearly a year. Still not completed.
* Power of Attorney original documents lost. These were found weeks later.
* No continuity regarding personal contact. Contact person changes frequently.
* Repeated problems caused by the over zealous Fraud Department blocking bank cards in stores and
on line. Three times in one day!!! Bank advised that the action of blocking cards is a completely
random selection. I.E. NO JUSTIFICATION WHATSOEVER.

So, to sum up;
Cannot be sure when our cards will be accepted.
Clydesdale support non existent.
Clydesdale have no solution.
Cannot spend our own money where and when WE choose.
Much unnecessary embarrassment, stress and grief suffered repeatedly.

Now in touch with alternative banks and will move asap. Simply cannot afford to stay with this
incompetenr organisation.
COMEDY BANKING AT IT'S BEST IF THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR.
OH HOW WE LAUGHED, NOT.

Worst account I have ever had

This bank is absolute trash. Makes me think why I even registered an account with these people. They twist and fiddle with the "Books" on every chance they get when you aren't looking or when you least expect it. I made several payments of large amounts over several days with my card, and took 1 week to come off the account. When it did, there was an almighty mess caused by their inability to update my account balance.

When you do try to phone about it, the phone staff go into denial mode, and start blaming master card, or if they don't blame master card they say "Oh, But every bank does this, that's just the way we work" ect.

Then there was the bank charges, for being overdrawn which was caused by them, then there is bank charge, ontop of bank charge, ontop of bank charge. It really is never ending.

One time, I was buying something of £200, and looked like an absolute tit, when they declined my payment for no reason other than "Technical Problems".

I've had my nationwide account for years now, with not one problem. I will be running this account into the ground fairly soon.

Not to mention, no android pay? but there is apple pay? Looks like a bank run by people with iPhones.

AWFUL, RIGID, OLD FASHIONED BANKERS

My recent (& initially successful) credit card application left me in a state of anger, dismay and frustration. The online application form was too rigid to collect all the information required, then when I brought extra information to their attention (post-application) they were unable to correct/update the details, so my application was cancelled and I was advised to re-apply by telephone!!

I therefore now have an unnecessary 'hard search' on my credit file, with the expection to re-apply and have another 'hard search' done, even though the original one was only 2 weeks ago. Are they for real?!

I have never known such rigid, blinkered and illogical inflexibility. When the computer says no, it means no!!

Credit Card Service

If you're not a clydesdale bank account customer ,the service you receive is shocking.

You can't set up internet or even mobile banking. The call centre can't take payments over the phone and you can't get e-statements.

This is a bank that makes you work around them. I've got to say their servicing is stuck in the 90s - i'd never go near these guys for any other product even if they gave me the best rate or offer in the market. It's just too difficult being a customer!

Good Bank - Great Customer Service

Clydesdale bank is possibly the best bank I've dealt with, great customer service, everyone's dead nice and the staff at Paisley and at Head Office are straight talking.

Would recommend Clydesdale to anyone!
