CheckMEND is a service that helps the public and traders to avoid buying stolen property. We prevent over £35m per month of stolen property from being traded. Consumers are always at risk when buying used or refurbished property; a CheckMEND search before you buy can help you avoid a nasty surprise later. A CheckMEND report will alert whoever performed the search (retailers, corporations, insurers, police or members of the public) to the item’s history and status. You may purchase a used item that works for months or years, but when you try to sell it to a responsible trader, their check with us shows it was stolen before you bought it. This proactive crime prevention doesn’t always make us popular, but it does mean we’re doing the right thing. In the unlikely event that a record reported to us is incorrect, we provide full support to resolve it with the provider. Please, don’t leave a bad review because you didn’t like a result over which we have no influence. If you engage with our support team, we will always try to help.

Like everyone else who seems to have…

Like everyone else who seems to have written a review of checkmend I too am furious to be told by MusicMagpie and webuytek that a handset I have bought brand new and legally (pixel 6) is blocked/stolen by this poor excuse of a company and as such been left seriously out of pocket due to paying a sky high upgrade fee with the idea of covering some of this fee with the funds from the old contract handset.

Seriously need investigation as who knows what kind of black mark this could leave on your name?!

This is a scam like people have said

This is a scam like people have said, I have a like new IPhone XS MAX I was selling through music magpie due to having an upgrade. Firstly their smart kiosk is a terrible idea that doesn’t even work. Secondly I went to two different stores taking time out of my day. The Asda in Isle of Dogs is the one that told me that Checkmend said my phone is listed as lost, stolen or blocked but that is never the case because I checked again via a different site and my phone provider and none of this is true. I can’t imagine what other people have gone though that have sent their phone to music magpie. Terrible really as people that would actually need the cash would have to go to places like WEBUYANYphone and CEX. Wasted day travelling around for these kiosks all for me to sell to CEX with NO problem anyway. Terrible

We’re not sure if it’s CheckMEND, Musicmagpie, or Asda that you have the issue with but would like your permission to post here in this public forum the details of your case. May we do that? CheckMEND is not a scam and we’d welcome the opportunity to prove it.

Probably a Scam

Unfortunately this is a scam. Like another reviewer, I sent a perfectly good iPhone that I've owned since new to Music Magpie to be told that it is either lost or stolen according to CheckMend. I've forwarded the invoice from when I first purchased the iPhone as proof. But this shouldn't have been necessary and how many people actually keep their invoices to hand? The phone has never been reported lost or stolen and I wonder if both companies are in cahoots with one another.

SCAMMERS AND FRAUDSTERS

Sent my ipad to music magpie. They said it's been flagged as lost or stolen. Well it hasn't by me and I've owned that ipad from new! Absolute scam. Both companies. So I'll be going to the police to now actually report it stolen. Stolen by checkmend and music magpie.
I'll also be going to the press, if this isn't resolved within 7 days! You won't be allowed to get away with it! SCAMMERS

Reply to checkmend: yes I have contacted yourselves and music magpie, with proof of ownership. If this isn't sorted in 7 days. I'll be going to trading standards. This is causing me a huge amount of stress and has actually made me ill.
I've also done my own independent check which has come back as clean. So I have no idea what's up with your records!

Hi, sorry to hear of your difficulties. Have you contacted support@checkmend.com as MusicMagpie may have suggested? Neither party produces the data, CheckMEND simply reports on data that exists and our customers use those reports to avoid buying lost or stolen property. Although we do not control the data and cannot change it, if you believe some data about your device is incorrect then we will always escalate your concerns to the data originator. So, not a scam of any kind and we’d recommend you do not waste police time with spurious claims. Rest assured though that our 20 year history as trusted 3rd parties and providers of evidence for many prosecutions of actual thieves and scammers, means the police understand what we do and how to reach us.

Dont get scammed when trying to avoid…

Dont get scammed when trying to avoid been scammed.
I typed the imei number and I paid the fee- all I learned for that money was that phone is blocked.
This info was available from other websites for FREE.

I wanted to learn about Who and when blocked the phone- but I dint so what was the point of using this website? and paying for the service?
SCAM to some extent....

RE TO CHECK MED REPLY:
You will only tell the customer what you got on the system, that is correct. I said that your data base is not worth the money because the information I received from you didn't bring anything into the case, however another website provided me with all the info i was after, like who and when blocked the phone, not just only "yes its blocked".
I wrote this review to tell others that they will get- a plain info nothing more. That plain info can be accessed for free elsewhere.

Details about what a standard CheckMEND report shows can be found on the CheckMEND website at: https://www.checkmend.com/uk/sample-report

If you would like further information about any results detected in your report please contact support@checkmend.com quoting the CheckMEND certificate ID number and we will be happy to look in to it further and provide information relating to any data sources we have available for it.

Second reply:
CheckMEND performs checks on a wide variety of different data sets aside from block data. We expect this may be why after reading about the service, you chose to buy it even though you believe the same is available free elsewhere. We have delivered the service exactly as described so your assertion that this is a scam is plainly incorrect and we would appreciate its editing or removal. If you email our support team and explain that you believe your phone shouldn’t be blocked, they would be able to share the network operator name with you. We are not permitted to share this information unless in a support context where we have established a clear need/requirement for that data. This is because we are an honest, trusted, established business that only deal in legitimate data. The global GSMA block list is only supplied to companies willing to pay and willing to abide by some very stringent rules of which limited disclosure of the blocking network is one. Global block information is not available free of charge with the exception of some individual networks directly and some national telecoms legislatures. This means that any 3rd party claiming to be providing the same block data as CheckMEND but for free may have potentially obtained it unlawfully or be selling it at a loss and infringing their contractual obligations. This may bring in to question the standing of your ‘free’ provider and the robustness of their data whereas a CheckMEND result will only ever come from verifiable data sources and formal data sharing agreements. The result you got from us may not be what you wanted to hear but it is the only result that will stand up in a court as evidence that you did a responsible check, hopefully before buying a used phone. You have received what was advertised for the service you have used and it is demonstrably therefore not a scam of any kind. It is unfortunate that we were not able to resolve or answer any questions or concerns you may have had through our standard support channels and can only advise that should you have any issues with this service in the future to please contact our support team first so that we can do our best to help you.

I’ve now received a lot of help from Checkmend to try and resolve an issue that nobody else has been willing to help with. I can’t quite figure out how to remove my previous review but once I do I’ll delete it.

Hello, I apologise for your inconvenience but we have nothing to do with the marking of items we simply recieve multiple streams of data and compile it for the consumer to check against. Your phone being marked as stolen is nothing to do with us

Selling through Music Magpie

Selling through Music Magpie, was advised a company in Canada had reported it stolen (impossible as was not purchased from there nor have I nor my brand new sealed phone have ever been there) contacted the other company who advised the phone was never blocked by them and the IMEI does not show as black listed. checkmend still sending vague responses and refusing to help resolve.
I am now without a phone and £400 out of pocket as Music Magpie are refusing to return my phone. Will be pursuing things legally if they still refuse to resolve.

Worst company ever

Worst company ever . My brand new phone which I personally opened with my own hands In front of my eyes is now red flagged on company website.
It's a joke I made a contact with samsung and they are sure phone was brand new on the day I bought it. So either the company who manufactured the phone knows more or CHECKMEND know more .
Either way choice is yours if you want to blacklist your phone do pay them money and see the result

Charged twice, every thing on it says "we do not have any (type of check here) records for this device."

Not worth paying for...especially when I paid twice.

Had my contract phone from 3 for over 6 months, had a better handset offered to me so I took mine to game for cash trade in.
After wandering around town for an hour while it was being checked out I went back to game store. I was then handed back my phone and was told it was blacklisted in front of a store full of people.
I got straight on the phone to 3 with my iemi code who were adamant that it wasn't appearing as blacklisted and it still works fine.
