Not practical if you work for a living

Not practical if you work for a living. The evening classes are always full, credits do not roll over to the next month if not used. How can you use a credit if the only available time slots are at 10 am and noon when you work 8 to 5? Cancelling a membership is also a scam. You have to talk to a manager over the phone but the manager is only there for 2 hours on certain days. Avoid at all costs.

Avoid this place like the plague!

This review is specifically for Club Pilates Burke
Avoid this place like the plague!
If I can give this awful place no stars, I would do it. I’m so shocked that this establishment has “5 star” reviews on Google! They must be phony because I have heard rumblings among members about this place. The owner Julie Karickhof who runs this place is awful and trains her employees to be rude and disrespectful to customers.

The so-called “General Manager” is Larry who has a super awful attitude just like the owner. If you are not white or East Asian, expect to be treated badly at this establishment. I believe the owner has prejudice against people of color based on preconceived prejudice and it’s reflected in the people she hires. I have noticed that this club is full of white and Asian clients and I’m usually the only brown person in the class most of the time. I’m quite sure the owner is going to respond to this trying to discredit me because that’s what she did when her staff treated me terribly.

I pay $200 a month for my membership with this place and got treated terribly! I noticed that Julie, the owner was filming around me when she was taking videos of the class for IG and Tiktok. It was almost like she didn’t want me to be seen in her videos. I thought that it was just a coincidence until it happened more than 3 times! I also noticed that she was filming the whole studio and all the clients in all her other videos of classes in which I wasn’t.

I thought they are just people with bad personalities until a few incidences confirmed it's more than that. The club recently introduced a policy that members must arrive on time and if they are more than 5 minutes late, the front desk staff won’t let them take the class. This is a real problem for busy customers who sometimes, run about 7 or 10 minutes late. Personally, I have never been more than 3 minutes late. Usually, I’m early or on time. I have seen other members who kept coming in about 7 minutes late and not getting tuned away. I was running 2 minutes late one day and the front desk girl was super rude to me and asked me to leave. She almost seemed to have a personal issue with me being only 2 minutes late! The instructor asked me a few days later why I left, and she was shocked to hear that I was asked to leave. I called Julie and she sounded annoyed that I called because she didn’t want to handle customer complaints.

Recently, I had to buy a pair of toe socks from Club Pilates Burke. The receptionist was on the phone as always. I showed her the socks and she waved at me to indicate that she will charge me when she got off the phone. When the class was over, I asked if she charged me and she had forgotten. I did her job for her that time. The second time I had to buy socks, she was the phone again and I asked her to charge my account. I thought she did, especially, since I had bought socks from her before and I’m easy to remember as the only token brown person in the class. When I showed up to class a few days later, I was treated with judgement because their receptionist forgot to charge my account again! Larry, talked to me in a condescending manner as if I couldn't pay $20 for socks when I was paying $200 for the membership! When messaged Julie she responded saying that her time is valuable and can’t talk on the phone. She finally called me and accused me of being "chronically late to class" when I wasn't and blamed me for her staff member’s failure. She also asked me to leave her club because I wasn’t happy. Yes, that was her solution! She further stated that she doesn’t like to bother with handling the club and wants her employees to be able to run it. She said that doesn’t want her staff to feel uncomfortable! She told me in a condescending tone that a YMCA might be a better option for me and not a boutique club! Yes, that’s exactly what she said! If she says things like that to customers in the age of social media, can you imagine what she must say behind closed doors? I told her that I would like to leave her Club Pilates and join another one in the area! Avoid this place like the plague!

Possibly Illegal and Non-Transparent Policies

They are not transparent about their membership contract and cancellation. When you cancel, you MUST pay for either another extra month of membership or $100 to cancel immediately, and not being able to do so will have them threaten to give your information to third party collections and send debt collectors after you. They will also state that you are responsible for any and all collection and legal fees related to this. Additionally, they will sign the contract for you, and it will be signed before you are even given a chance to see it. The only other option you have if you cannot afford cancellation is to pay them $300 a year to freeze your membership and prevent debt collection. Absolutely insane.

Disappointed

I wanted to love Club Pilates in Williamsville. The facility is beatiful and the location so convenient to my house. The owner is pleasent and nice, but it ends there. A question I had before I signed up was is it easy to get classes you need (people working or anyone really have schedules) I was assurred that would not be a problem.......There is a wait list 6 deep for every class. I'm not sure how people even get into a class without sitting at their computer/phone ap constantly. If you sign up for 8 classes per month and you can't get into classes (you can't) your classes DON'T roll over to the next month. You paid for something you didn't get? How is that even legal?
I tried again to get a class, thinking maybe some bugs were ironed out. Now it is asking for my credit card? I l already paid for 3 months? I heard a women ask this question 2 weeks ago and they said it was a glitch. Still glitiching I guess because now I can't get in a class even 4 weeks out without paying again?
Policies are not transparent. They say they are on your contract. They should be on the webiste for reference. This is a national chain. My friend in Florida said the one in Lakewood Ranch one was great. This leads me to believe it's inexperienced management. What is going on? I'm out.

I do not recommend Club Pilates…

I do not recommend Club Pilates Teacher Training Program. It is a waste of time and money. I agree with others who feel they are discriminatory, I was a victim of ageism and others as well. Many unfounded assumptions were made about me. The teaching contract says the student will be mentored by the Master Trainer. Mentoring was non-existent. Perhaps if I had received what I paid for my experience would have been better

Very Very Unhappy with Club Pilates

I signed up for the 4-class-a-month plan and it’s been impossible to get classes. Every class I have managed to get into instructors talk about how classes will be added, and front desk has said they will try to honor my request for a certain day and time. How? When I first got to Club Pilates in “Williamsville” (actually it’s East Amherst, not even close …) I saw that there are only 14 reformers in the room. I am very unhappy with this place … the franchise owner informed me that I am tied to the place for 3 months and I intend to follow up with a note to the Better Business Bureau. How are they fulfilling my agreement with them when I cannot get classes? Also, one of the instructors questioned whether I had taken their Intro Class (I had), as I was getting my foot into the strap on the reformer. “Have you taken Intro?” Yes, I answered and she asked “Who was the instructor?” and then left the room to look it up on the computer (I assume) at the front desk. It was unbelievably rude and, unfortunately, this mediocre instructor teaches most of the classes I am seeing on the app - that I cannot get into. Do not waste your money!

Unethical and shady business practices.

I bought over $100 in pilates items from the Club Pilates clothing boutique in San Antonio (located in the Quarry, off Basse Road). When selecting the items, the sales person told me that I could easily exchange these items if the size wasn't correct. Then AFTER taking my money and completing the purchase, another person (presumably a manager) told me that they would not accept a return. It's worth noting that nowhere was the return/exchange policy posted and changing policies after a purchase is unethical and an illegal bait-and-switch business practice.

None of the items fit. Since I was told I could exchange them for the right size with no problems, I brought the items back to exchange them per their instructions. Yet, the store did not have the correct sizes to make this promise good, so I left the items for Club Pilates to issue a return. They have the merchandise and I still have not received a credit to my account over a month later. I wish I had looked at the other online reviews as the illegal and poor ethics and business practices of the person running this business is an issue that has shown up repeated times. Please beware and stay clear of this business.

They cancelled with only 15 minutes before the class was scheduled

I signed up for their free introductory class and confirmed the night before via text message. They told me to come to class 10 minutes early to sign the waiver former. The day of the class, they text me 15 minutes before the class was scheduled to start stating that the instructor “fell ill” and they were cancelling it. As I was driving 40 minutes away, I was very unimpressed with the late heads up. Especially since they require a 12 hour cancellation for any client that signs up for their classes, otherwise they get charged a late cancellation fee.

I think they are racist

I think they are racist. They fired a young black girl with 4c hair without any explanation after she was only there training for a week. The assistant manager didn't speak to her at all and snubed her and found a way to let her go without giving that young girl any explanation as to why. Seriously, why hire her if you only want a white middle-class, straight-haired young woman as part of your sales team so now this young black girl with two master's degrees and with 4c hair is feeling depressed and wondering what she did wrong because the company pulled a long-standing racist move on her. Really? I am referring to the Club Pilates in Albany, NY.

I agree with all the other 1-star ratings — buyer beware!

The business model of this so-called wellness studio is designed to get the most money out of its monthly membership customers while providing the least value. The classes are always billed as full, but when I was able to get one and show up, there’d always be a couple of empty reformers. They must make a lot of money in no-show fees! They also turn nasty when you try to cancel.

I now learned that a sign of a badly designed service is when you have to make it really hard for people to leave. I’m a happy member of a spin cycling studio and a local gym that have way more accessible services and classes.

Stay away from this franchise!

Beware if you sign up for an unlimited…

Beware if you sign up for an unlimited membership it's not really unlimited. You can only book a maximum of 15 classes ahead and most of them are already booked up. So essentially you won't really be able to take a class when you want to and if you do, it'll be a last minute notification.

Pressured Sales and lack of integrity for a fast buck

I was talked into an unlimited 3 month membership over the phone with a fast talking salesperson. Wanted payment and membership to start immediately. I had a planned 2 week trip. Fast talking salesperson said no problem we won't charge your card until you return. After the trip and unexpected events I decided I could not afford the membership. Never stepping one foot into the facility I called to explain. I was told I was responsible for the entire membership. I explained I never used their services. The answer But you signed! Or responded to a text message. I was threatened with collection. I could understand a fee if I had used their facility but never did. Finally, it was agreed I would have to pay 1 month fee to close the account or be sent to collections for the entire amount. A sad sad way to make a profit. Karma will find it's way......
