Tesco/Morrisions/Sainsburys in Ripoff with Coinstar

Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsburys and others should be ashamed for hosting the immoral company. Shame on you supermarkets.
They take 11.9% of your money to change it! Then you get a voucher not cash that you have to use in the supermarket that very day.
Guess why tesco and the like love coinstar?
They get a percentage of your mioney as well as you having to spend the voucher that day in store.
AND WORSE. If you dont spend it that day the Supermarket gets the value!
Blame the Supermarkets as much as the Coinstar company

There must be a way to legally hold…

There must be a way to legally hold these people accountable for this obvious malicious disregard for their own accountability! Sadly before they ripped everyone off…most of us appreciated a place to turn in your coins conveniently. But now “Coinme” has exposed them as a company who has had years of potentially “skimming “ thousands and now through virtual exchange. So how after all this time you operate with little if no accountability?

Absolute con

Absolute con. You have to read the coupon right to the bottom to notice it has to be redeemed on the same day. Then, the customer service phone line is actually non-existent, just plays music forever. Tried posting on social media, and someone was deleting my posts. Goint to Sainsbury's to let them know the shower of s**te they are endorsing.

Voucher not accepted at self checkouts

The voucher states take to any checkout to redeem. Doesnt work at the self checkouts, i was not going to repack everything up, cancel my transaction and then go queue at another checkout. And why do you have to use it on the same day? Absolute rip off.

1 star is generous

1 star is generous, Like others machine short changed by a large amount, it took 3 recorded delivery message and 4 phone calls, 1 if each even after they agreed the audit of the machine was wrong and once i go the refund again they still did it a £1 short to the agreed rate! Won't ever use these again. But don't give up if you've been cheated keep chasing them.

Total rip off

Total rip off. For some bizarre reason coinstar make it a rule that you must redeeem the voucher they give you on the same day but write this in very small print, nor is there a sign making this clear in the shop. It is simply an excuse to rip people off. Totally disgusted and will never use again. Avoid like the plague. A very dishonest outfit

Great Supermarket locations without going to the bank

Very easy to use the Coinstar machine once i followed the instructions. I've never has any issues at the Sainsburys store that I use. I find this an easy way to exchange my coin for notes prior to going on holiday. Always nice to see more counted than I thought. :) I would definitely use again for this Christmas.

Fuming

Just left asda middlebrook bolton having placed a large glass container full of silver and pound n 2 pound coins in cornstarch machine. We counted it as a family only yesterday were on holiday tomorrow. We counted £317 from the jar and added a smaller pile that was in a drawer also.so probably £330. Accepted the 10% ish commission only to have the amount we knew to be approx 330 reported as 220 odd. My coins are in the machine asda don't want to know and I'm away £100 light. Theft or faulty machine don't take your change to these machines there's no comeback or proof of what you've deposited. AVOID if you don't want to be ripped off

Love the Coinstar machines!

Love the Coinstar machines! Yes, a % is taken but nothing in life is free! My kids love saving up their pennies, guessing how much is in a jar and then spending the exchanged cash in store. Never had any issues with the machines used in Sainsburys stores

1 star is just nothing to describe this…

1 star is just nothing to describe this company!
Today I went to bank to change my piggy bank into the cash, been collecting for few years in big protein powder jar, like two years ago not been lazy and counted 1p,2p and 5p coins which I been putting in the jar, resulted in around 400£, bank because of some virus couldn't do my transaction today. So I decided to go to one of the supermarket coin exchange mashines. Hed to the Prestons Morrison's Coinstar rubbish machine with heavy bag, agreed that they'll take their's 10.9% charge, tought f**c that. My guess was that there supposed to be roughly 700£ by this day, but when I tipped my whole jar in the machine they just give me 82.77£. Absolute pi*s take, and what I can prove?, that I put in at least 700£, people never use this scam mashines, this company must be broughted to the courts, it literally was robbery in day light. I'm so gutted after today's expierence. So in future from me you can expect payments for my goods in 1 or 2p coins.
Absolute f****ers! @)

Would give 0 stars

Would give 0 stars, I counted my money before hand so I knew exactly how much there was, they counted up differently and I had no way to cancel once I put my money in. I’m on hold to customer service but I’m sure they will say I have no Proof

How to not get messed around

I had the same problem as others on here where I forgot to use the cash voucher on the day, and then Sainsbury’s refused to pay when I went back 2 days later.

Here’s how I solved it.

I rang coinstar’s customer service who I was able to get through to quickly and were very pleasant. I had to give them all the details of my voucher (there are various ID numbers at the bottom).

They advised me that Sainsbury’s should be honouring the vouchers whenever they are presented, so long as the voucher is in good condition and readable and gave me a reference number in case I needed to call back.

I went back to Sainsbury’s and the original voucher then just worked on the scanner, no questions asked and I got my cash.

That makes me think that the coinstar team re-enabled my barcode and it’s actually some sneaky policy to make people jump through hoops to get their cash, but I shall also be complaining to Sainsbury’s about it in any case.

Good luck if this happens to you!

Avoid Coinstar - very costly way to change money

Tesco, you should be ashamed of giving these Coinstar machines floor space when you're supposed to be an ethical, community responsibility company with high values. These machines are taking a percentage of cash from those who can least afford it. The machine screen does not make the percentage charge clear. Very disappointing in this day and age that this type of machine is still in use.

MUST redeem same day

Why doesn't Coinstar make it obvious on their machines that the voucher MUST be redeemed that day at that store, probably because Its an unethical company that Tescos should be ashamed of allowing floor space. A magnifying class is needed to read the terms and conditions which state that the voucher should be treated as cash, I seem to recall that cash can be used anywhere any time.
Roll on the cashless society, mind you I suppose Coinstar will just find another way to rip people off.
