As others have said, beware of the £40 "cancellation fee" which is automatically charged to you after you pass. So when comparing prices with other suppliers, add £40 to the amount for Collingwood if you think you will pass during the insurance period. I think it is in the T & Cs but not very explicit.
If you "forget to report" that you have passed the test, they will catch it because they check 1 month before the renewal and see that you have passed thru DVLA. They will then charge your credit card they have on file, or if that fails will turn it over to debt collection. If you pass within a month or so of the expiration of the policy, they probably won't catch it. Just for info, I'm of course not suggesting you try this...

I had taxi insurance with them. It’s first and only insurer ever who made me feel protected. I had whiplash claim against me and they fight for me in my side . No matter how small claim was they protected my no claim bonus even if the paid some in the process.

So just make sure you have it all to hand

Awful company! Luckily my daughter passed her test first time so only needed a months worth of learner insurance. Made her pay 40% of the whole years premium plus a cancellation fee.

As the same as all the other comments. Read the small print! Absolute scam, get you to buy it on the promise of a years no claim at 10 months….4 days off and still wouldn’t give it and then charged to cancel!!’ Even though they’re cancelling because my son passed, and the fee to cancel is NOT made clear. So sad that with how hard it is for a young person to now pass that then you got the insurance company’s robbing you on top. I’d hate to own a company like this.

All was good until the insurance was cancelled when my daughter passed her test. I took the 6 months policy out and they wanted me to pay the remainder, 2 months and a £40 cancellation fee. There was no option to pay the 2 months as legally you have to inform them, and even though you can't use the insurance they want you to pay it. But there was no way of not paying the £40 cancellation fee either. I would have thought that you could pay the remaining 2 months and then not pay the cancellation fee, but apparently not. Avoid, or get the monthly rolling and not a longer policy.

This is only the second negative review i have had to complete - first being one for the Broker InsureTaxi second, the Underwriter, Collingwood - After a 2 year battle i have been pushed to the point where i feel others need to be aware of what can be faced when claims are made.
After a completely non-fault accident - where i was hit by a driver speeding on the wrong side of the road - I already felt shaken, stressed and overwhelmed. The last thing i needed was more financial pressure. But when i arranged this renewal policy (Collingwood) following my previous claim, through InsureTaxi, i was informed this renewal premium was extremely high due to my non-fault claim being open. At this time i was reassured by the Broker that the extra cost would be refunded once the claim had been settled and no claims bonus re-instated. From being told this i assumed this would be the agreement with the underwriter as nothing was brought to my notice relating to any T&C's.
This given information reassured me to proceed with the policy in order for me to work - i trusted this and that trust backfired yesterday.
The claim has now been settled after 2 years and 1 month as Non-fault - liability was not the issue as i had a witness but the recovery of costs resulted in a lengthy wait. My broker contacted me to say they could now apply to the 2 companies involved for a refund on over paid premiums.
Yesterday i received contact from InsureTaxi to inform me that Collinwood have refused to pay the large sum of overpayment, giving me a reason that had never been mentioned to me before - The policy overlapped. The broker informed me the only thing i can do is complain, so here i am.
I cannot put into words how draining this has been, i have spent months chasing answers and being told i would just need to wait until the claim settled and all would be resolved. At least 2 calls made during this process i was reassured by call handlers that i would receive back what i had overpaid.
I have been misled, ignored and treated as an inconvenience rather than a paying customer who trusted the words i was being given along the way.
I have placed a complaint directly to Collingwood and InsureTaxi and will escalate further to the Ombusman if required as i simply cannot accept the £2,700 overpayment is just kept by Collingwood when i have been proven NOT at fault.
The direct impact this has had on me and indirectly my family is something i will never forget and i really do not wish others to face the same ordeal. As a Taxi driver i need good, clear, honest policies and for those companies to be clear with T&Cs. The lack of accountability between the brokers and the underwriters is becoming extremely frustrating and i was most certainly mis-led at the point of sale.
If i had been made aware there would be an issue with a refund after a specific time i would not have taken this policy,

Really unhelpful. As a parent that got added as a nominated person. The person that arranged and paid and sorted out the windscreen repair. They were unable to tell me why they wanted to charge me £25 as a cancellation fee. I paid to a year and when she passed you have to cancel and then they charge a cancellation fee after 7 months. What a con. And of course they can charge me but they cannot speak to me. What a joke. I have email evidence that I am set up as a nominated person and still I can’t be helped. Get your act together

I agree with many others who have left similar reviews for this company. You're given the option of short term cover, which is higher than an annual policy, but you have to tell them as soon as you pass your test and they charged my daughter £40 to cancel it. I was told the charge was due to behind the scenes costs. Ridiculous, all databases are linked nowadays. The charge represents an unreasonable cost. It is nothing short of extortion. I will be telling anyone and any platform I can find that this is the case and to avoid this company.

Absolutely diabolical company! I am disgusted. I payed for the annual insurance £265.00 i passed my test within 6 months, the refund i received was £7.71, which is disgraceful. I did not read the ‘small print’ as a 17 year old who just wanted to get out in her car and start learning to drive this would be the last ever thing on my mind. I contacted Collingwood for my questions to be answered and the impression i got from the first lady was i passed within 6 months and thats what happens. I requested for a formal complaint to be made. The lady asked me the day i wanted to be called back on i said Monday at 5:30. I received no call and i had to call the company on the Wednesday and they stated “we tried to call you” i was waiting by my phone for half an hour, and no call came through. I feel penalised because i passed within 6 months and i personally believe they thought i would forget about the complaint. This company has give me nothing but stress since i passed and that is not acceptable. I hope no body has to go through this. MAKE YOUR ‘small prints’ CLEARER! DO NOT USE COLLINGWOOD!

I wouldn’t use this company again if they were the only ones left to provide the service. They take your money on the basis that when you pass your test, they’ll offer you a discount on your insurance when you have passed, but they don’t actually offer insurance for when you’ve passed, as they don’t do that type of insurance. Then they steal a whole years worth of insurance premium when you’ve used just 4 months of the policy term, and when you tell them you’ve passed your test, they refund you £5, as all the rest is swallowed up in their extortionate cancellation fees. Avoid at all costs
