Co-operators is shit
Hands-down, the worst company out there. Trying to get insurance was on hold for more than 5 1/2 hours and then disconnected. Zero customer service like I don’t have anything better to do with my day and sit on hold all day to be disconnected. This company should be brought forward to the Better Business Bureau. When I had my policy with them before I started making payments through their app they never got the money and just discontinued my policy without telling me. Bunch of donkeys there.

“Long wait times—it took hours to set up the policy. You would think they would have that sorted out. I have several businesses, and this has been the most unenjoyable company I’ve worked with.”
I would have to chosen 0 star but…
I would have to chosen 0 star but couldn't. Someone hit me and it was clear to the police the other person was at fault, the front of their car hit the side of mine while they were making an illegal turn on my advanced green. The insurance company didn't care about the laws or the facts and said it was 50/50 and wouldn't return my calls. Pathetic. My autistic child was in the car and suffered traumatic stress and they don't care.
A negative rate should be possible
A negative rate should be possible. The worst experience of my life! The greatest feeling of injustice in the world! A white Canadian man hit my stopped car; I am a brown-skinned immigrant woman. The insurance company says I am 100% at fault.
I was in front of my 5-year-old son's school, taking him out of his car seat, and my other son, who is 3 years old, was in his other car seat.
The school bus driver hit my car door, he didn't see what was happening, people started yelling for him to stop because my door was stuck to the bus and my child and I were trapped in the middle.
When we were filling out the documents, he asked for my help, saying: I'm a little blind.
Everyone around saw it; we have several witnesses. I did absolutely nothing wrong. But the insurance company that's supposed to be on my side, the insurance company that receives my money every month, says that the person who clearly shouldn't have been carrying children on a bus is innocent.
We have to consider that the fleet of buses insured by the school bus insurance company pays much more than I do. The one who pays more wins!
A bunch of idiots!
A bunch of idiots!
Cancelled my policy due to their stupidity but still charged my credit card, had to dispute it. Charged my card again, had to dispute it again Was reimbursed both times but who needs the hassle.
Just to reaffirm
Just to reaffirm, folks stay away from this company, unless you want terrible service and pay way too much !
$135 premium increased with Zero claims no ticket
Zero claims. Zero tickets. Zero changes. Still hit with a $135 premium increase and no clear explanation. This company lacks transparency and does not reward safe drivers. I will be shopping elsewhere and would advise others to do the same
Terrible company
Terrible company, I literally had to reach out every time to get my claim sorted. The staff are under experienced and there was just a lack of communication between them and the the repair store. I was very disappointed. Would not recommend

Bought a new car so I called and had the old car removed and the new car put on. After one month they added the old car back in and blamed me for it. Since the payments are automatically taken from my account I paid for both cars and they would only give me half of the money back.
Straight up crooks.
Worst experience
Am but just a little fish in the ocean!
Been with them since 2021. Just called them to cancel on renewal & the agent did it without even asking reason for leaving! Need I say any more?!

Braden has been so professional and helpful, in short time he has solved all my questions.
I appreciate your help. And I am always thankful Taylor, she is the best worker, smart and dedicated, very professional
They canceled our policy on us
They canceled our policy on us because someone made one claim where we were at fault. They weren’t even required to fix any car because it was a slight accident and none of the cars were damaged. I can’t believe just a small accident which happens a lot in Ontario (where we live) can cause you to lose your policy. What are even insurance companies for???
Co-operators Insurance disgraceful
Co-operators Insurance handled my not-at-fault collision claim with shocking unprofessionalism and bad faith. Despite clear evidence (police attendance, my immediate notification, and signed medical release), they repeatedly delayed, demanded unnecessary documents, threatened me with personal storage/towing fees, and ultimately denied collision coverage weeks later claiming I was “at fault” with no explanation or fault determination letter. Adjusters gave conflicting information and ignored Ontario’s Fault Determination Rules. Four months of stalling, rude communication, and blatant refusal to honour a valid policy. Extremely disappointing and unethical conduct.
On hold for 6 hours!!!!
I bought a car, needed insurance ASAP as the weather was getting cold and I could not walk to work. I called Co-operators for 3 days. Everyday I was on hold for AT LEAST 4 hours or more on a daily basis. Once the 2 hour mark hit, the call failed. This happened every day. If you are a new client looking for insurance, DO NOT choose this company. It is clear that they do not want anyone's business. Their customer service is AWFUL!!! Their wait times are ridiculous, I could not get through to an agent no matter what I tried. Take your business elsewhere, everyone.
Misleading advertising tactics. Cannot connect them on call
Misleading advertising tactics. They advertise for auto insurance but their IVR lins and agents are full and overwhelmed. They have no new way to take customers. We have to wait atleast 2 hours (on a good day) or more on their call lines and still the call gets disconnected. Who is going to pay for our time back? If you cannot accept new customers then stop advertising everywhere.
Scammers and so expensive
Scammers and so expensive, after I found a 150$ less policy, they charged me after cancellation, very expensive rates even with clean record, wouldn’t recommend it
Bad insurance company
Bad insurance company. They want the money every month but the customer service sucks. They cancel my insurance with not letting me know. I don’t understand how this insurance company gets there clients. Jessica that works in the Mississauga branch is very roof and does not help. I had an accident and they said it was my fault. After I should the video they said I was not at fault. So ridiculous.
I honestly don’t know where to start…
I honestly don’t know where to start with this review. Earlier this year, I was given the details of Co-Operators Insurance in North Battleford, managed by James Bowen. I decided to call in and enquire about life insurance. On first impressions, both the business and James appeared professional and helpful, providing reasonable quotes and clear information. Unfortunately, that’s where any positive experience ended.
I arranged a meeting with James for my wife and me to set up life insurance, as we had just bought a house locally. We brought along everything James had requested, including our payment details, and were told the policies would include Critical Assist coverage. The meeting lasted close to three hours, but James reassured us everything was fine and explained that the company provides temporary insurance while awaiting medicals and bloodwork, great, or so we thought.
A week later, James called to admit that the temporary insurance had not been activated because he made a mistake entering the payment details. He said he couldn’t contact us to correct it in time because he’d been camping and had no access to communication. Trying to be fair, I gave James the benefit of the doubt and agreed to a second meeting, which again lasted nearly two hours. My paperwork was completed, and all seemed fine, until I later informed him I no longer wanted the Critical Assist coverage and wished to cancel it.
About a week later, we ran into James at a local shopping mall. He casually mentioned the cancellation but didn’t disclose that he hadn’t actually processed it. Instead, he waited until the very last day to contact me and say it needed to be cancelled immediately or it would cost money. It felt like a tactic to run down the clock in hopes I’d miss the cancellation window.
Somewhere in between all this, my wife and I had yet another meeting with James. It was chaotic, he appeared disorganized, made multiple computer errors, and even had to call his daughter-in-law for help navigating the system. That meeting also dragged on for several hours. By the end, he assured us that everything was finally in place and the policy would start soon.
Months later, we received a letter stating that my wife’s insurance policy was inactive because James hadn’t submitted all the required information. After nearly seven hours of face-to-face meetings, handing over every document and payment detail multiple times, my wife still doesn’t have coverage. There was no apology, no sense of accountability, just excuses.
I would strongly advise others to avoid this branch and James Bowen at all costs. Our experience has been nothing but frustrating, time-consuming, and ultimately pointless. I now intend to make an official complaint and raise my concerns with the ombudsman.
Edit: November 13 2025
The problem with the response from co-operators is the man the complaint about is the business owner. How can this company provide any impartial investigation when he has family and friends working within the office?
SCAM company
This company, also known as CUMIS, baited me into getting insurance with them. I received a letter from them recently telling me they are going to abruptly and permanently stop service saying they are pulling out of my province as it's not as profitable as they would like. Now, I have to start insurance at top rates with another company. TERRIBLE selfishness on the part of Co-operators to leave clients in this situation.
