If it sounds too good to be true.......

Back in June I saw their 'Aura' offer of a bike designed for front electric motor being sold without motor needing only a front wheel to make it into a low stepover pedal bike for £75. As I was looking for a new pedal bike this seemed like a bargain offer and I called to ask for more details (frame size etc). I was told the price had increased to £99 that same morning, but reassured by my conversation with the lady on the 'phone I ordered the bike anyway and sourced a front wheel for £25.
The bike arrived in a damaged box and I took many pictures and immediately called the company to inform them of scuffs and imperfections. The following day when trying to fit the new front wheel I discovered that the axel slot was bent and not wide enough to allow the wheel to be fitted. The damage probably resulted from the box being dropped during transit as the forks were protruding from the bottom of the package when delivered (something hidden in the courier's delivery image as the bottom of the box was standing on gravel but clearly visible in the many pix I sent to the company).
On reporting this I was told by the same lady I had spoken to previously that they would arrange a replacement, but this offer was later rejected by a manager. He said I had no proof of damage and should have inspected the package more closely while the delivery driver was still there. However, even if the box had been undamaged the problem with the wheel axel slot would not have been apparent until the bike had been unpacked and the wheel ready for fitting.
While disputing my claim the manager offered to send a new set of forks for me to fit OR a completely new bike, free, if I agreed to pay £40 carriage!
I could keep the existing bike and dispose of it as I wished.
I was not happy with what seemed like a very unusual suggestion and not one that fitted with consumer legislation.

I emailed to say that I wanted a full refund and for them to arrange for return of the damaged item as per Consumer Rights legislation. I was referred to their warranty T's & C's. - take it or leave it.

At this point I learned that the company had gone into liquidation and the name E-bike, the name on my credit card statement, cropped up. It seems to be run by the same managers and staff as Cyclotricity.

I contacted the accountants named at companies house and reported the situation to Trading Standards.
Because the price of the item was £99 I was not covered by Sect75 legislation but I did try to dispute the payment anyway. My claim ws rejected because Cyclotricity/Ebike claimed I must have damaged the front forks when fitting the wheel!!

Left with a bike I could not use and unwilling to make a claim in court for £99 I decided, reluctantly, to accept the replacement set of forks and make the best of a bad job.

It took many weeks for these to arrive; first they would not send them because the CC dispute was shown as 'pending' even weeks after I had received notification from my CC company that it was closed. Then there was difficulty sourcing the forks and delays in sending them. This saga continued for nearly four months.

I took comparison photos of the replacement and original forks and sent them to the company as proof of the damage, but have received no reply.

Had I known the company was in liquidation I should never have had dealings with them. Perhaps I'm wrong but I believe the bike I bought could be from liquidated stock that could not be completed as a motorised bike for some reason;why else would they offer to give me one for nothing except the cost of carriage?

What I do know is that this company does not follow consumer rights rules and I will never have dealings with them again. I would urge anyone to think carefully before purchasing from them.

Finally, I did get a surprise call from the lady at Cyclotricity last week to ask if the forks had finally arrived. I referred her to my email of a few days earlier which she obviously knew about (so why ask?) but I confirmed they had and that I would now be able to post on Trustpilot. She sounded concerned and hoped that I would be 'fair' to which I replied I would state what had happened and allow others to judge.

Dear Mr Sillen, we're disheartened that you feel this way.

The damage photos you shared were examined by your own credit card dispute team and concluded you had damaged the fork drop-outs yourself.

In spite of this, we sent you a brand new set of forks completely free of charge. We kept following up with you and showed you attentive care throughout the process until your bike was functional again.

The former company that was running Cyclotricity did indeed go into liquidation. But the business has been taken over by E-bike Factory Ltd. It's the same team working for the new owners - so this should have no impact on service levels. If you still need further assistance, please email us directly as we have always demonstrated willingness to help you.

There were problems, which proved how good the service is.

I ordered a kit with a bike from CycloTricity. However, there was a problem with the availability of the bike. However, Conor kept in touch with via mobile right throughout the whole episode. In the end I went for a full refund option, which was sent back to me in about 24 hours. They are a good company to do business with and nice customer service too.

I had to chase at all stages.

I ordered a bike from them. After a week I had to chase the order. I was told the following week that the delivery company had damaged it and they wouldn’t be sending it. After several more messages I was called. I was given two options for different bikes, however they were not what I wanted so I cancelled my order. All the while, the bike I originally ordered was still for sale and shown as in stock online. I have now been refunded.

Dear Tim, apologies you feel this way. We've been hard at work in the background trying to source the bike you wanted after your original order got damaged, hence the short delay. But no worries, I have halted the search and issued a refund instead now.
Apologies for the delay.

I was sold a misrepresented mid drive…

I was sold a misrepresented mid drive motor. I bought the 250/500w motor but they sent me a new one that cannot be derestricted. The old ones are no longer ger available. Its a lot of money to spend and not get what you ordered. Although customer service replies quickly, there is no suitable resolution. I bought via cycle scheme so im stuck with this janky motor. I honestly wish I had just bought a mid drive motor elsewhere out of my own pocket. I'd have gotten a better motor for less cost. The battery pack has the wrong label on it which caused issues around deliver. I have a 36v 19ah system but the battery was mislabelled as 48v 4ah. I do not rate the quality of this motor. I did not want a 260w only motor but here we are. I wont be buying from cylotricity again. The whole experience has been utterly disappointing. The motor controller firmware itself has been locked down so a new screen wont allow me to derestrict the motor that I own. Absolutely ridiculous.

I only mark the 3 stars ..

I only mark the 3 stars ... as the time it has taken (13 days) for a small package with an LED Screen to be processed and delivered.
I ordered on line, it was in stock, you are based in Scotland which is why I originally used your services to buy electric bikes for my hire business, and it takes nearly 2 weeks to get a small item delivered to Orkney. The contact Elaine was very helpful along the way with communications etc, but it was out of her hands regarding speeding up this process. I was losing £40 a day by not having the bike available. Unacceptable.

Dear John, sincere apologies that you had to wait this long. We were actually moving to a new warehouse which added a temporary delay to order dispatch. We're now fully operational again. Apologies once again for the delay on this occasion.

Extremely Poor Quality and Customer Service – Avoid

I purchased a complete electric bike from this company over a month ago. When I attempted to assemble it, I discovered that the front wheel does not fit into the fork, making the bike completely unusable.

I reported the issue immediately and sent photographic evidence, expecting either a replacement part, technician visit, or refund. Instead, customer service:

Directed me to a warranty for e-bike conversion kits (which I didn’t buy),

Suggested I use a spanner to force the wheel into place,

Eventually offered to reimburse me £30 to take the bike to a shop – despite the bike being brand new and incomplete.

I've had to send multiple follow-ups and was ignored for days at a time. After 30+ days with no working product and no real resolution, I’ve now submitted a chargeback with my bank.

This has been one of the worst online purchase experiences I’ve ever had. Poor quality control, dismissive customer service, and failure to uphold basic consumer rights. If you’re looking for a reliable e-bike and support, I strongly recommend that you buy elsewhere.

Update: It is now August, and the company is still refusing to give me a full refund for the faulty bike, ignoring consumer rights laws, and they are contesting my charge back request. I am having to escalate the issue to a small claims court to get my money back

good product, great service

I started to look for a diy ebike solution for my wife forme minster hybrid.

I searched quite a few sites & I found the information on the CycloTricity website very useful, easy to understand & very helpful.

I then looked at their products & bought a DIY front wheel motorised option at £300 which was extremely good value compared to other websites/ providers.

I contacted CycloTricity to keep informed on the progress of my order & they were very helpful! they kept me appraised of the order right through to delivery so I knew it was all in hand & on the way & they even tracked the delivery for me telling me when & that it had arrived.

I fitted the kit to my wife bike very easily! yes it required work, tinkering & adjustment to fit it but it was very straight forward & easy. I did not need any help I just followed the online instructions & watched a couple of their youtube videos for guidance.

the end result is a vey nice electric upgrade that makes my wifes journey to work much easier & safer as a result.

the bike has been working now for over a week takling a rather nice hill every day & it is all working beautifully.

so to sum up I would definately recommend this company & their products to anyone wishing to go down a DIY E-bike conversion. They are definately worth investigating if you want to go down this route to electric bike commuting
