Bike arrived deeply scarred paint, bent fender, bent wheel frame connection, missing items. A mechanic named Francisco texted me when I sent photos. Offered no resolve except to send touch up paint.... See more

Fantastic bike
I ordered my Cortello on May 15th. It finally arrived here in Philadelphia last week (six months later). This bike was well worth the wait. Detroit Bikes kept me updated on the status of my order and customer service was excellent in responding to questions I had along the way.
The shipping box was a bit flimsy and was damaged, but the bike was fine. Set up of it was easy. I just had to air up the tires and adjust the handle bars and saddle and I was good to go. A bike pump was included in the box with the bike.
I commute by bike in the Center City Philadelphia area daily, year round. This Cortella is my new commuting bike. My previous bike is worn out after years of use and exposure to the elements.
I love the steel alloy frame. Shifting is very smooth. The hydraulic disk brakes are fantastic! The peddles are excellent. I love the wider wheels and the Schrader valves on them; perfect for navigating the rough and tumble streets where I ride. The steel frame is wonderful. Very smooth ride. This bike is well worth the wait and it is an excellent value for the price.
My only complaint was that it shipped with quick release hubs on the wheels. I had them replaced with locking hubs. In my area, quick release means quick theft. It would have been nice to have the option to order locking hubs or regular bolted on hubs with this bike.
Very Disappointed in customer service and communication
I ordered a Chromoly B after much research and definitely wanting to buy a bike made in the US. The order was placed August 17 and I knew it would be about 45 days until I received my bike. I received an email on September 1 with shipping promised the week of September 28. I was excited but when that week came and went without an email stating the bike was shipping, I began correspondence with the owner. I wasn't given much help, in fact it seemed to me that they were more concerned about getting other projects done(not sure what that could be), rather than building and shipping bikes that customers had ordered. Finally after reading 2 reviews that sounded similar to my issue and 2 months after I ordered I cancelled the order and asked for a refund. In fairness to Zak, the owner, the order was cancelled and I received my refund in 2 days, but I honestly don't know how they can stay in business with such horrible customer service and lack of communication. I will buy a bike from a local cycle shop even though it is not made in the USA. So much for American manufacturing!
Warranty?
After the experience I had I was told I needed to pay for the return boxes even though one of them was damaged and not useable by their shipper, not me. Again so disappointed. They were not even willing to call their shipper who I informed them was aware the box was damaged since I asked them to document it.

I ordered a Chromally Cortello 15 weeks ago, June 8th. I see people who ordered their bikes after mine and they got their bike. I received a grand total of 2 e-mails from the company, one after 6 weeks, another 6 weeks ago. I understand there is a pandemic, but this is ridiculous. I called customer service to cancel and with no apology or even a comment about how long it has been, they cancelled the order. I will purchase an American made bike next season, but not from Detroit Bicycles. Very disappointed.

I decided after years of not owning a bike I finally buy one. I heard about Detroit Bikes. Since my F-15o is made here at home....I figured GREAT!
I ordered a red and black Axel. I just liked the style and the price was also nice.
Only problems I seen were minor and just a few. The sizing. It should not be based of height. But inseam. I ordered a medium, which is sized for my height. But I only have a 30 inch inseam. Might have been better with a small frame. Just a minor issue.
Bike runs and feels nice.
I wanted a rack for it. Since this style of bike does not come with any eyelets I had to research an alternative.
My local bike shop said it is impossible to buy a rack in this bike. Period.
That’s not true!!! I read bike blogs and researched products and came up with a combination of high end items that work just fine.
I bought a Tubus QR Adapter to replace the rear QR. the Tubus has mounting brackets for a rack. They offset behind the disc brakes to clear. Added a Topeak Explorer MTX 29er rack.
And a Salsa 27.2mm positive lock rack mount.
All worked beautiful! Looks great on the bike also!
Just saying that it can be done to fit this model with a rack.
Wish I could figure out how to share photos to show how nice it looks!!!
Ordered this bike 12 weeks ago
Ordered this bike 12 weeks ago. Was promised that it would only take 6-8 weeks. We are in the middle of a pandemic though. Customer service was excellent. The bike is outstanding. A smooth ride and very good craftsmanship. Worth the money and made in Detroit USA
Love my Cortello, A+
Had my Cortello for about a year now and have been really enjoying it. Great quality, great ride. Highly recommend.

I just purchased a Sparrow XL in white and blue online. The Bike is awesome, light weight, great looking, great quality and service. They called to update on shipping due to the pandemic. It was shipped, tracked and received in 2 days, just put the pedals on and air in the tires and you are ready to go. Feels good to support Detroit, US manufacturing and local business all while getting a best product. Thanks!

I've had my Sparrow for a full season now and love riding it as much as possible. It's super lightweight, fun to ride and well constructed. The quality of the materials, finishes and workmanship ins second to none. It's a beautiful piece of work, built with pride and so fun to ride. At first, I wasn't sure how I would feel about a single-speed bike, but quickly learned that the gear ratio is the perfect balance... fine launching from a star, but the gear is tall enough to cruise the streets with authority once up and running. Also the lightweight nature really makes it more practical than I expected. I would buy this bike again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to others.
investing research
Was doing some research for a bike-share company, the store reps were cool and knowledgeable.
Answered all questions with solid details, and offered additional suggestions to find out more about my investment preferences and client needs.
All around good experience....thanks Detroit Bikes....!!!!
Great bike
Great bike, great company! A bit of a delay, and then a shipping issue. But excellent customer service helped, and in the end it was all worth it. Love my US Chromoly B-Step bike!
Chromoly Type A
I am very pleased with my Chromoly Type A 8 speed internal hub bike, in black. Customer service during the buying experience was superlative. My bike was very carefully boxed and shipped and easy to finish assembling at home. It looks beautiful and I have gotten a number of compliments on its appearance. I like the wood platform on the rear rack. It is not just a styling issue but provides a very stable surface for attaching a rear bag. It is a very well designed rear rack. The bike itself is surprisingly agile. I like the Brooks C17 saddle, which for me is most comfortable for riding in a more touring position. A more straight up cruiser position might benefit from a spring loaded saddle, such as the Brooks B67s on the type B version. Sheldon Brown talks about this. I really like this bike and company. I hope they can continue making bikes in the US.

Picked up two Detroit Bikes from the factory (one A type and one B type). Great communication from the day I ordered to the day of pick up. Drove from Upstate New York to Detroit, bikes were ready when we arrived and we were greeted by kind employees who take pride in what they do. We even received an impromptu factory tour. It was truly a one of a kind experience! I have a C type that I love and look forward to commuting with the new A type.

I'm so stoked about my new Sparrow by Detroit Bikes. Not a ride goes by that someone doesn't ask where I got this beautiful piece of machinery. Thank you for fantastic customer service, for being prompt with all of your communications and overall, providing a killer product. Happy rider here!
The bike is very well made
The bike is very well made. Components are solid. The weight of the bike is awesome. The graphics on the bike look cool. I live in Rhode Island. I get a lot of compliments about the bike when friends/folks get a look at it when I am cruising along the shore.
Thanks for your work on the Sparrow.

Ordered Greenfid kickstand for my new Sparrow, 2 tshirts, bibbed cap and knit hat. Knit hat was weathered with lent balls and cat hairs inside the bag with cap and tshirts. Totally unsatisfied. Will be returning the products. Kickstand does not really fit frame. Absolutely love my Sparrow, however.
Bought both the A and B types
Bought both the A and B types, we ride them all over, great bikes!
Made from Da Motor City
I really enjoy my beautiful lightweight bike when I ordered it I was able to pick it up from the warehouse / Factory and met a few of the people who make it run they gave me a great Tour on how they make these beautiful bikes I really hope that they continue to be the next wheel of the Motor City
Really good sturdy bike
Really good sturdy bike. Easy to put together. A tad disappointed that it did not include a kickstand but otherwise very happy.
