Laurence is an excellent English tutor who helped my son leading up to his GCSE exams this year. Initially we did worry that 2 hours a week consecutively might he too taxing for our son on top of all the other tuition he was receiving in other subjects such as Maths. History and Science too, but our son wanted to do well in his English exams so reluctantly he agreed to do the 2 hours weekly on top of all his other subject interventions . We did not start tuition with Laurence until end of February which meant our son only had about 3 months tutoring in total before his exams started.
Initially we were a bit hesitant in getting English tuition lessons as we thought our son was doing quite well at school but with a constant high turnover of staff at his school and with teachers having actually walked out of classes due to interruptive pupils and with the school not having even started on Macbeth yet in January this year and him just getting a 4 and 5 on his last mocks we grew increasingly concerned that it will all affect his final GCSE results so we took the plunge after having found Laurence online. Our son achieved a 6 in both language and literature which was better than his mocks and predicted scores and allowed him to pursue the A level subjects he wants to pursue in sixth form. We feel so relieved that he was able to get a strong pass and can confidently say that it is down to Laurence’s input. He is extremely helpful and provides excellent tips and pointers in between his lessons. You can tell he is extremely passionate about his job and cares about his student’s results.
My son has said that as his weak area in English was poetry in general he felt that with Laurence's insightful input it definitely helped to lift his grade up, and without the tuition he doesn't think he would have been able to get the high B grade at all! In hindsight we wished that we'd started tuition with Laurence a lot sooner!! Highly recommend his expert quality tuition to anyone wanting their child to achieve better in their GCSE exams!

Laurence made the world of difference. I can't recommend him enough. My son achieved a grade 5 in language, from a grade 2 in his mock. This was undoubtedly down to the expert knowledge imparted through his lessons with Laurence. Although my son really disliked English and found it a real struggle at school, he actually really enjoyed his 2 hour lessons and always came away happy having learnt a lot.
Your child will almost certainly be taught things no teacher has ever told them.

Laurence is an excellent English Tutor. My son needed a little extra help with his English before his GSCE's and Laurence provided informative lesson's that helped him achieve his grades to attend the college/courses of his choice. I will be recommending Laurence to my family and friends.

I would not hesitate to recommend Laurence. My son was tutored by him during Year 11 and it made a huge difference to his confidence as well as fine tuning his exam technique. My son is naturally more mathematically minded and Laurence’s approach was sympathetic to this preference. My son never complained when it was time for his lesson and was full of enthusiasm afterwards. I feel very lucky to have found Laurence and my son was delighted to achieve 8 and 7 in his English GCSEs. We are very grateful; thank you Laurence

I can confidently say that Laurence made a significant impact on my son's English Language and English Literature grades for GCSE , where he achieved a grade 9 in both. Laurence's lessons were well structured and organised and he offered great support and advice.
Laurence is highly knowledgeable and also seems genuinely passionate about teaching.
I would highly recommend Laurence to anyone who is looking for an exceptional English tutor.

Laurence is an excellent tutor and we strongly recommend him for GCSE English Language and Literature, given the help and support that he has provided to our daughter to prepare for her exams.
Our daughter’s mother tongue is not English and at the beginning of year 11 her results were 5 and 6, well below her target grade.
Luckily we have found Laurence, who is a kind and supportive tutor: he is very knowledgeable, skilled and has an effective method of teaching.
The lessons were well structured and our daughter was able to reach grade 8 in GCSE English Language and 7 in Literature. She has also improved her writing skills used in other subjects and her overall confidence in her academic abilities.
Thank you very much Laurence!!!

Laurence started working with my son when we realised there were gaps in the knowledge he had gained from school and his predicted grades had dropped. Laurence quickly built my son’s confidence and gave him the tools to get back on track. The change in the grades was almost instant and he soon got back to the levels he was achieving previously, with some papers marked even higher. He sat his language and literature papers recently and thanks to Laurence’s tuition felt both exams went well. I can’t recommend Laurence enough for those looking for extra English tuition.

I really couldn’t have wished for a better tutor for my son’s GCSE English revision and I am so grateful that Laurence was able to find time for us in his busy schedule.
Laurence’s lessons are extremely well planned, resourced and delivered; he has created an excellent method of teaching which helped my son to engage and focus on his revision.
Most importantly however was the strong teacher/pupil relationship that Laurence built with my son - from the first lesson my son had great respect for his tutor, valuing his feedback and acting upon the advice given. Initially I was sceptical that this rapport could be achieved with online tutoring, but I realised after the first tutorial that Laurence’s teaching style was perfect for today’s students.
Even though we have not received the final exam marks, I am confident that my son has done well and will gain at least an extra grade (or two) but most of all I am proud of him for putting in the extra work with Laurence and changing his attitude towards studying English - all down to Mr Dalton!
Finally, I asked my son what I should write in the review, to which he replied “I am permanently indebted to Laurence, and the skills he has taught me will help me for the rest of my life” - Should have asked my son to write this review!
Thank you, Laurence

We are very happy to have found Laurence via our Google search when looking for an English tutor for our son’s GCSE exams, as he has been nothing but absolutely fantastic! We wished that we had found him sooner. Although our son’s strongest subject is in English we could see that his school was not helping him to maximise and reach his full potential as there are many interruptive students in his school/class and teachers have actually walked out of lessons and subsequently left so the staff turnover is extremely high. With Macbeth being featured in the English literature exam his school hadn’t even started teaching them the text until around February this year so understandably we were really worried that he was not getting the right resources and sufficient support to sit the actual exams. But ever since Leo started tuition with Laurence 3 months ago our worries began to subside and we could see that Laurence really knew his stuff and Leo found his lessons productive and impactful. Laurence also gave lots of great feedback and helpful tips on how to improve on Leo’s work as well giving him praise to improve his confidence. I must say despite the school offering free after school English interventions in the run up to the exams, Leo said that Laurence’s lessons are much better, more productive and more effective than the school’s, so we would highly recommend him for anyone who is looking for a marvellous English tutor who is knowledgeable in his field and actually cares and wants to help his students do well and maximise their full potential. Thank you so much Laurence for your wonderful support !

My son has always found English a huge challenge. By teaching with positivity, enthusiasm and plenty of praise, Laurence has given A a confidence he has never had with English. A has thoroughly enjoyed his lessons with Laurence over the last six months and I would highly recommend him as a tutor.

Mr Dalton has been an outstanding tutor for my son, H, who recently completed his GCSEs. H has never enjoyed English at school and we were worried he would fail his exams. Luckily, we found Laurence through a Google search and he was able to engage H in successfully learning both language and literature. Today H came home from his final GCSE English paper and reported that it ‘went pretty well, actually’. That would never have happened 4 months ago, and it is due to Mr Dalton and the work they did together.
Mr Dalton’s sessions are fast paced and involve challenging and engaging learning. He knows exactly what he’s doing and as a parent I have had to let go somewhat and ‘trust the process’. He is an experienced English teacher (so not a student or recent graduate) and it shows in the quality of his approach and how he is able to noticeably improve the quality of the student’s work in a short space of time. His feedback is meticulous and specific, and has been really helpful. The fact than my son looked forward to the lessons and was energised after them was a joy to see. H is unlikely to ever be an English teacher, a novelist, or a proofreader, but the chances now are that he can take on further and higher education with a good set of English GCSEs.

My daughter has only been tutored by Laurence for 3 months & she has gone up 4 grades in English language & 2 grades in English literature. It’s her third set of mocks & the first increase in her grades. She scored a 1 & a 2 both times previously & I was very concerned.
My only regret, not contacting Laurence sooner!
It’s worth every penny to help your child reach their full potential & increase their confidence.

An excellent English tutor! We are so pleased that we found Laurence! My son is incredibly strong at Maths and Science based subjects but found English harder. Laurence helped unlock what my son needed to do to get the higher GCSE grades and has grown his confidence hugely. In just over four months Laurence improved my son’s grades from two 5’s in his mock exams to an 8 in English Language and a 7 in English Literature in his actual GCSEs! We were all thrilled! I would highly recommend Laurence!

Fantastic tutor who we would highly recommend. Laurence really encouraged our son and taught him some key skills to achieve his potential. Our son was really pleased with his GCSE exam results and the improvements he had made with Laurence's help.

Connor is very logically minded and strong in maths and science. He previously struggled with his English Language GCSE and got a 3 twice.
We chose Mr Dalton as an on-line tutor who, in 2 hours a week for 4 months, taught Connor how to “logically” answer the different types of questions in the exam.
Connor surpassed everyone’s expectations (including his own) and achieved a 7 this summer. Thanks very much for getting him there.

Laurence tutored my son for 3 months in both language and literature. I wish we started earlier as Laurence was brilliant. He helped my son go up 2 grades to a 7 in a short space of time.
I would recommend Laurence very highly, he is a great tutor and cares about his students. Thank you Laurence.

Laurence has supported our daughter brilliantly during the past 6 months. His techniques really helped build confidence and develop strong time management skills which could be applied in the English exams, but also in other essay-based subjects. Even when she had a wobble shortly before her exams, Laurence offered a supportive and understanding voice.
We were absolutely delighted when our daughter achieved two grade 9s and received icing on the exam cake, with a letter of commendation from the exam board for scoring full marks in her literature exam! Thank you so much for all the support and guidance you’ve provided Laurence.. she couldn’t have done it without you!

My son was predicted grade 5/6 in English language and literature. Mr. Dalton's tuitions helped my son gain confidence and self belief that he can get better grades. Actual GCSE grades were 8 in English Language and 8 in English Literature. Massive improvement over predicted grades. Thank you Mr. Dalton.

Laurence has been fantastic working with my son, who against all expectations achieved a 9 in Eng Lit and a 7 in Eng Lang. Not only does he inspire confidence and good foundational skills for writing and analysis he works on exam techniques and time Mgt which was something my son needed. I would highly recommend Laurence for any parents looking for inspirations for their children and to bring back a love for English.

After the first session my son said ‘that was really helpful’ not a boy of many words but how that changed! We started the tutoring just before mock exams, and at that point my son was predicted 6’s and only just. My son went on to achieve an 8 and secure 6. The sessions were engaging and full on but just what he needed. My son said that the writing practice also helped him with his Geography exams where he also secured an 8. Thank you so much Laurence, we hope to return if needed in 3 years time for round two of GCSE’s!
