We have just had my son’s GCSE results and he got an 8 in English Language and a 7 in English Literature. He only got 3’s in his November mocks so the turn around is amazing and we attribute it to a combination of his hard work, the support, coaching and confidence you gave him, and his school enabling him to use a computer rather than having to hand write his exams. He has always been very good with Maths and the Sciences but has struggled with doing well in English, despite being an avid reader. Your teaching has enabled him to take a different approach which has resulted in excellent results. Thank you so much.

Laurence is a fantastic tutor. He is patient, kind and builds confidence. My daughter excels at Sciences and Maths, but had something of a mental block with English and had got into a can’t do’ with her literature in particular with zero confidence. She had been predicted to get a 5/6 in her GCSEs.
Laurence’s techniques and approach worked extremely well for her, and we have just been very pleasantly surprised with 7’s in both language and literature. We are really grateful to Laurence and would definitely recommend him to others.
Thanks so much Laurence!

Laurence is a fantastic tutor.
His methods really suited our daughter and we noticed an improvement in confidence straight away. I think her positive mindset regarding her writing and her belief in the usefulness of practice are things that she will take with her to other subjects at A levels and beyond.

We found Laurence online only a few months before my son was due to sit his GCSE's.
The support and encouragement Laurence showed my son was tenfold compared to the inconsistentancy he has received at school.
My son had spent years 8 and 9 due to covid being taught online and also most of yr 10, these are crucial teaching years and where some children are OK with this others are not, my son being one of them, its hard to focus and concentrate looking at a screen rather than being in a classroom environment.
Laurence helped my son get back on track and give him the confidence boost he needed, resulting in him passing both English Literature and Language.
My son is now starting a new journey as an apprentice so a BIG Thank you to Laurence i would highly recommend. 👏😊

Laurence was recommended to us by a friend whose daughter had success with his tuition. My son had aspirations of becoming a History teacher but this was doubtful as his English Lang & Lit were poor. He did not pass his SATs and was in bottom set from Y7 through to Y11.
We started to use Laurence from the October through to May of Y11. What Laurence did during this time was instill confidence and structure to my sons work. We had weekly sessions online (I was apprehensive but needn’t have been) and Laurence tailored his approach to suit.
Last week 24/8/23, my son passed Lang with a 5 and Lit with a 4! We are over the moon. Not only is my son doing A levels but Eng Lang will be one of them!
Cannot recommend Laurence enough - THANK YOU.

Laurence has been fantastic working with my daughter, who against all expectations, has achieved a 9 in both Eng Lang and Eng Lit. He inspires confidence, and teaches good foundational skills for writing and analysis. More importantly the method in which he works teaches them exam techniques and time Mgt, something they don’t even realize. I couldn’t fault
Him. He’s worked with both my daughters and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

I highly recommend Laurence to any parent thinking of getting an English tutor for their child. My daughter was struggling a bit with her English lessons post lockdown and as she is quite quiet and doesn’t like asking questions in class I thought a tutor would be helpful. The difference in her confidence and ability since she started working with Laurence is enormous. She has gone from a student who was achieving grade 5 at the start of year 10 and really disliking English to achieving two 8s in her GCSEs and selecting English Literature as her A-Level choice. I have no doubt this is in large part due to Laurence’s tutoring - he puts a great deal of time and effort into his planning and this is evident from the results. I’ve tried other tutors for other subjects but we have never managed to find anyone else as good. It’s definitely a worthwhile investment.

I contacted Laurence as my son was really struggling with English and was going to be doing his GCSEs soon. I was a little worried to begin with because I felt that my son would maybe need face to face tutoring but after my son and Laurence had the first session I realised that I was wrong. After a few sessions with Laurence my son felt that he had learnt more with Laurence than he had done in years at school.
My son lacked a lot of confidence before using Laurence and even his teachers at school couldn’t believe how much he had improved in such a short space of time.
My son passed his English and English literature exam and can’t thank Laurence enough. My son went into the exam feeling confident and knowing exactly what he needed to do to achieve the grades he wanted.
I will be contacting him again next year when my other son is close to GCSE level. Thank you Laurence :)

Laurence has worked with our son for three years leading up to GCSEs and we are very pleased with the results. Laurence ensured our son gained the confidence and skills he needed to pass his exams when we realised that English was a subject he was struggling with. Not only did this help with English as a subject but also with the other courses he had chosen at GCSE. It was a tough few years but this week he got his results and the work was well worth it! Definitely recommend Laurence’s approach as well as his skills, knowledge and patience!

Our daughter has moderate learning difficulties and she was struggling greatly with both the English Lang and Literature GCSEs.
Laurence was recommended by a friend whose own child had improved greatly through his guidance and encouragement.
Our experience with him was outstanding. Over the course of 18 months we noticed an amazing improvement in our daughter's ability as her test results rose steadily at school.
Her August 2023 GCSE results were 6 (Lang) and 5 (Lit), which might not sound amazing but bear in mind that she had improved from a 2 or 3 in an incredibly short time.
Laurence's method is unconventional; you'll spend two hours or so completing a task and he'll dip in and out with help, advice and, best of all, encouragement.
Our daughter responded really well to this and, beyond his general didactic skills, he was able to instill in her a practical methodology that addresses precisely the points that examiners are actually looking for.
I'd like to thank him for his help, encouragement and for boosting our child's confidence so much. She is so proud of her writing now.

We were recommended Laurence by another parent and I’m so glad we did. Our son Alex despite being very bright, lacked the creative mind to excel at English..maths is his strength.
Laurence was an absolute god send. He uses techniques and coaching to enable students like Alex to independently produce brilliant answers to exam questions and tailors his teaching to ensure it is exactly what is needed for the papers.
Alongside this, his style was so so positive..knowing how to relate to our son..bringing out his confidence and promoting independence to fully answer exam questions and avoid the dreaded “writers block”.
Alex ended up achieving an 8 for literature and a 5 for language. Just superb and beyond what we thought he would achieve. We also noticed his exam technique improve in other subjects such as History and RE.
Needless to say, we have absolutely no hesitation in recommending him as an English tutor for GCSE studies.

I contacted Laurence very late in the day to help my son with his GCSE English Language and Literature. My son excels in science and maths, but was lacking confidence and couldn’t seem to improve his English grades from borderline 5/6 despite trying hard. With just 8 weeks of tuition from Laurence, it made all the difference as he was delighted to achieve grade 7 in both English GCSEs. Laurence, your encouragement, feedback and techniques made such a huge difference. The results are more than we thought possible, we’re delighted, thank you!

Laurence's detailed and efficient teaching methods helped me to get 9s in language and literature and boosted my confidence. Before I started lessons with him I thought that despite enjoying english i'd have to settle for grades 6/7 because of being dyslexic (especially in english language where I was predicted a 5), but the detailed and consistent feeback I was given each lesson helped me to clearly understand exactly what I needed to do to improve my writing. Laurence always made sure to check I fully understood the work and answered any questions I had in detail which meant I finished every lesson feeling really confident about the exams. I'm delighted to have gotten the grades I wanted in English thanks to Laurence's help and it's so great to now be confident about going into A level English literature after once finding english really overhwleming. Can't recommend enough!

Laurence did a great job guiding our son towards his GCSEs. His lessons helped build his confidence in both literature and language and really made a difference. My son got 2 sixes in his exams and we are delighted.

Laurence was incredibly dedicated and thorough. He really went the extra mile to help my daughter achieve her potential. Her confidence grew with every session. I cannot recommend Laurence highly enough. He is an outstanding tutor and teacher.

I wish we had started the tutoring earlier!!!
After a disastrous set of mock results I searched and found Laurence on line.
The tutoring is quite intense and I would say the student needs to be committed to make this work, but my son fully engaged and I saw his confidence increase from the first session.
With a strong pass in both exams we are very grateful for the tutoring that he received.
It was well organised, slick and supportive.
Thank you so much!!!!!!
I wish I had started this at the start of year 11 or even earlier

Laurence has made an amazing difference to my son ,turning him from a person who was lacking in confidence to a boy who has passed his English GCSEs with flying colours enabling him to get into college.Laurence has a natural ability to encourage and engage students to do well and make them believe in themselves. We are so pleased with the results and couldn’t have done it without him .Highly recommend! Thanks Laurence.

Thanks to Laurence my son got a respectable pass in his English Language and has secured his place at college. More than that, his enthusiasm and desire to learn has flourished.
In the few months they have worked together his confidence has grown and I have seen him blossom before my eyes!
Laurence has a fantastic way of getting the best out of young people and amazingly quickly. At the end of his first two hour lesson, my son came down with a beaming smile and thanked me! (This is my son, 'the reluctant learner'). I had to do a double take!
My son speaks highly of the support Laurence has given him and really enjoyed his sessions.
Laurence, You've taken him on a journey from reluctance to success and sparked an interest in reading. He is now asking me to buy books for him!
I can't thank you enough.

Laurence worked with my daughter for 5 months leading up to her end of her Yr 10 exams and she said the writing practise she did and feedback she received really made a difference in helping her with her writing. She gained skills and confidence in the English Language component in particular (which was the part she was most worried about) and she did better than expected in the exam (a grade 8 instead of the predicted 7).
I would especially recommend Laurence if you have a bright child who overthinks and freezes when it comes to putting pen to paper!

My daughter has found the regular sessions very helpful for GCSE revision; they have given her the confidence to consider doing English literature as an A-level.
Thank you!
