Laurence is the best tutor that we have come across. He helped to improve my son’s grades throughout the time they worked together. With Laurence’s guidance, my son has been able to get his grades up to A* in his GCSE’s. If you need anyone to help with your English we believe he is the person to deal with, the best in the business.

Our son disliked English with a passion favouring maths and science. Having looked for a tutor we came across Laurence who tailored his tutoring towards students who were more mathematical. Our son was predicted from his mocks to get a 3/4. After connecting with Laurence in a way he had never connected with his English teacher, he committed himself to work hard and follow all the in-depth guidance Laurence provided in his weekly feedback. The feedback was comprehensive and helped to show our son that by making a few tweaks and using some special words it would bring his level of work up.
So today we are celebrating after our son achieved a 5 in language and a 7 in literature. We know that he would never have achieved these grades without Laurence’s help.
I would definitely highly recommend Laurence without hesitation.
Thank you Laurence

My sons experience of this Tutor was very positive. He started the tutoring with a mock result of grade 3 in English Language and after 10 sessions of 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon and much effort he has today received a grade 5 in the subject at GCSE. Mr Dalton is calm and friendly and patient and he has a great knowledge of what is required in the exam. He helped my son to understand what the questions were looking for in an answer. Online learning was convenient and practical, allowing work to be completed and then marked by document sharing. This was a great success for us and I would thoroughly recommend this Tutor. Thank you.

Well it's result days - a huge thank you to Laurence for all his support and great advice. My son's target grades following mocks were Language - 5 and Literature - 4; below what he needed for his first choice sixth form and courses he wants to study. With Laurence's support he achieved a 6 in Language and 7 in Literature and has secured the college place he really wanted. He is absolutely thrilled. A special thanks to Laurence for stepping in to provide an extra tutoring session mid way through the exams after my son had a wobble after the first language exam - it made a real difference.

My son was struggling with English and it was his least favourite subject as he felt he was not good at it. Laurence gave him the confidence and skills to gain a 6 in both English Language and Literature and he has now decided to study English Language at A Level.

We looked for a tutor for my son after lockdown had finished. My son really struggled with English and has a very scientific and mathematical brain. He was working at a grade one in English and lacked motivation. After an initial chat with Laurence, we hired him to help. The lessons were intensive, but Laurence was patient and provided great feedback. My sons grades at school very quickly improved and his confidence grew. He achieved a grade 5 at GCSE. I truly believe that he would not have achieved this had it not have been for Laurence's tutoring- it was worth every penny.

I cannot recommend Laurence highly enough. Phoebe thoroughly enjoyed her sessions as he was personable and a fantastic tutor. Having got 4/5 regularly it was clear that she needed some extra help and has been delighted to achieve 7/7 in her results. I have no doubt that without this tutoring, that wouldn’t have been possible. We are so proud and very grateful we found him!

Excellent help for students who struggle with essay writing. Laurence helps to identify problem areas and guides you with precise, tailored suggestions and pointers. With his help I was able to bring my grade 7 up to a 9.

Wow, proof is in the results…
Our daughter was really getting down whenever it was an English lesson during her final year of school approaching GCSE’s.
Her mood changed on these days, her predicted grades were sliding and knowing she needed a 5 ideally and at a push a 4 to get into the college of her choice this was an added pressure for her.
We decided to look around and get her a tutor to help bring back her confidence as she no longer believed in herself and any homework and class work was a struggle.
I knew Laurence was perfect for our child with the way he taught. Always praising and giving her hints and tips for the exam to gain extra marks. Macie liked him and never felt her work wasn’t good enough.
We decided to have two sessions per week and in a matter of weeks she started to beam and believe in herself again.
The work she was producing was lovely and the difference was that she wanted to do the tasks set by Laurence.
We cannot recommend Laurence enough and is a must to aid English Language and/or Literature.
At one point our daughter felt she would be getting a 3 and after a few months, and results day today, she was over the moon with her 5 grades in each.

My son was struggling with English and we needed a tutor to boost his confidence and writing skills. Laurence helped turn things around just in a few months. My son was scoring below average in his exams before he started with Laurence, and he went on to score one of the highest grades (out of 204 kids) in his end of year 7 English exams. The transformation has been amazing. Thank you Laurence!

Laurence massively helped me with my confidence in English. I wrote essays for him which he would then correct and give me suggestions on how to improve it, especially by giving me new words and phrases which I began to instinctively use a lot in my writing. Doing this made my English abilities much greater. I came into GCSE's unconfident about English and came out with a grade 9 and 8.

Laurence tutored my son from Oct 2020 until April 2021. He is very reliable and his fees were reasonable.
My son's predicted grades were 6/7 and 7/8 for English language and Literature respectively (as I recall). He got an 8 in English language and a 9 in English literature! We were very happy with the results. My son's teachers noticed the improvement in the quality of his homework quite quickly and commented on it.
Laurence even started working with him one to one on Saturdays as my son was slacking after a while and submitting the weekly homework later and later. These Saturday sessions helped a lot.
We thoroughly recommend Laurence as a GCSE English tutor.

Laurence is currently teaching my daughter writing. I ,personally, believe that Laurence is an experienced and amazing teacher - helping and tutoring my daughter to the point when she has full understanding of things. With Laurence's guidance, my daughter's vocabulary has improved immensely. After a year of working with him, everything in English and writing has been so much easier for her. This has especially been shown in school as her rank zoomed up when writing tasks or tests were given to her. With Laurence's help, my daughter has been able to produce work that her teachers find complex. Her interest in writing has been developed too! If you are trying to find a teacher with vast knowledge, a teacher that will make your writing zoom up fast and develop your interest, then Laurence would be the first one I would recommend.

Our son was working at Level 4 grade in his English Language GCSE at the start of year 10. We decided to get a private tutor on board to help him improve. Laurence worked with our son from the middle of year 10 up to the gcse’s in year 11. We were thrilled that our son achieved a grade 7 in his gcse.
As we started the private tutoring sessions in year 10 it meant there was no pressure and it was a gradual solid improvement over time which we thought was a lot more helpful than a mad rush to improve too late in the day.
A big thanks to Laurence for his patience and input with getting our son to ‘buy in’ to the process and get the best out of him. We would recommend Laurence to anyone looking to improve their performance in English Language. He keeps you informed with regular updates and useful bits of information shared with his students. Thanks again Laurence and good luck with your business moving forward.

I would highly recommend Laurence. Laurence has developed a unique approach to GCSE English tutoring, which utilises his extensive knowledge as an English teacher, tutor and examiner. When I first contacted Laurence, I wondered how his approach could work, but encouraged my son to try it for a couple of sessions and we never looked back! Laurence focusses on developing the child’s confidence, right at the start of the tutoring process and then uses this foundation to build the more complex skills required for the exam. Although I engaged Laurence for English Language tutoring, he was completely flexible as we moved towards the exams. Noticing that my son was struggling with poetry, I asked Laurence if he could provide some sessions on poetry - the difference he achieved over 5 months was extraordinary! My son looked forward to to his FaceTime sessions, enjoying the humour as well as the learning he achieved in every session. We look forward to the results in August, but I would never have believed that my son could walk into his English Language and Literature exams with such confidence and belief himself. Thank you Laurence.

James was very uninterested in English and this was reflected in his grade. I was concerned he may not pass his GCSE English so in Year 11 I found Laurence. James loves Science and Maths as he can logically process the questions to find the solution. Laurence engaged with him and structured his sessions so that James could use his processing strengths and apply them to an English question. To my surprise James sat and worked with Laurence diligently every week and as a result James more than exceeded our expectations in his GCSE. I think Laurence has a gift of tailoring his sessions to individual styles to best suit the student and the results speak for themselves. Highly Recommended.

Our son was expecting a GCSE Grade 5/6 in English Language, although 8/9 in all other subjects. We engaged Laurence and he did not disappoint. He helped my son not only improve his language skills, but also his enjoyment of the subject, which had been seriously lacking. Mock GCSE grade was an 8 so we are hopeful! Would highly recommend Laurence as a tutor, especially if your child just "Doesn't get English". Laurence seems to have the key to unlock potential. UPDATE: Son got an 8 in Language and 7 in Literature, so pleased. Thank you Laurence for raising his grades at lease by 2 levels!

We initially asked Laurence to tutor our son halfway through year 10 when our son actually asked for some help with English. Laurence was exactly what our son needed and his excellent, thorough, detailed and tailored feedback was extremely beneficial. Our son felt very well supported and we noticed significant improvements in his writing style and vocabulary, not limited to his English work but extending out to many of his other GCSE subjects. In the course of just over 12 months with Laurence our son raised his grade from a predicted 6 when he started with Laurence to ultimately achieving 2 grade 9’s in his actual exams.
It was a natural progression to ask Laurence to tutor our daughter who is now in year 10 and once again we are noticing improvements in style and vocabulary which are enhancing all of her written work across a range of subjects.
Laurence has been fantastic, he is helpful, patient, clear in his expectations and consistent in his feedback.
For my own children his particular style of tutoring has provided the flexibility that we needed as that weeks work can be fitted around other commitments.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Laurence at all.

Laurence has been an excellent tutor. I found that his bespoke teaching methods really benefited me.
For both English Language and English Literature he would set me pieces of work equivalent as if they were exam questions.
And after I had submitted it, he would do a colour-coded, line by line analysis, telling me where I can improve. He would also give me improvement tasks which I had to implement into my work, as well as imbedding his own YouTube videos to explain things
He also had made an excel spreadsheet which I found very helpful as I was able to collect a bank of phrases which I would be able to use in the exam.
For the English Language paper on persuasive writing, he gave me amazing phrases to start each paragraph.
And for my actual descriptive writing piece in the exam, I was able to lift most of what I had already done with Laurence in a certain homework as it was a very similar task in the real exam!
I also found that my English Literature quality of writing had really improved as before all my analysis of language was very generic but after Laurence’s help it became very specific and at a much deeper level.
The result was that my grade in my English Literature mock doubled from a 4 to an 8!
And my English language increased from a 5/6 to an 8!
I would highly recommend Laurence to anyone doing English GCSE.

We are so fortunate to have found Laurence to tutor our daughter over the last school year. At the end of year 10 her English grades just did not match the excellent grades she was achieving in every other subject; she is bright and has a very logical approach to learning, and English just didn’t work that way. She was trying hard, but becoming increasingly frustrated and despondent. Then we found Laurence and from the very first lesson her whole approach changed. He furnished her with the tools she needed to make the subjective objective and give her the strategies she needed to approach questions & almost immediately, as her confidence increased, so did her grades.
She took her first English language GCSE paper last week & felt it had gone well.
If you have a bright child who isn’t thriving in their English studies with the approach used at their current school, I can’t recommend Laurence highly enough. He has a great way with youngsters & clearly really knows how to get the best from them.
