We contacted Laurence when we realised our son needed some additional support with English in Year 11. From the description on his website we felt he would be a good fit as he has developed a range of techniques to support young people who are stronger in STEM subjects than English.
Laurence explained the tutoring options and was really clear upfront about the need for students to be able work fairly independently to get the most out of the two hour sessions; he sets a task at the start of the session and as they complete each part they check in with him for feedback.
My son has found Laurence's approach really beneficial. His confidence in English has really grown and he's now equipped with a set of 'rules' to help him navigate the subject and ensure he is able to demonstrate the required techniques in the exams. My son's English teacher has confirmed he has made significant progress since Laurence began tutoring him.

We were so lucky to find Laurence after a frustrating search to find the right English tutor for our son. Our son is in year 11 and sat his first GCSE English Language paper this week. To hear him come out of an English exam and say “that went well” is a breath of fresh air, and this is thanks to Laurence. Laurence started to tutor him at the start of year 10. He is the typical boy who excels in Maths and Science with English his nemesis. He quickly built up a rapport with our son. Laurence’s teaching style provided the approach that was necessary to unlock confidence and flare. This was demonstrated in his results as his predicted grades rose by 2-3 grade boundaries. The techniques he has learnt have given him great confidence in his writing in all areas. In the run up to GCSEs Laurence has been very flexible in moving lessons, tailoring to our sons needs and providing ‘live’ examination practice. His experience as an examiner is invaluable ! Can’t thank you enough Laurence.

We arrived in the UK the 13th of January 2022. My eldest daughter could not go back to school for A-levels because of the age difference between SA & UK schools. She had to do GCSE English Language as one of her subjects to enable her to proceed to A-levels. That left us with 3 months. Long story short, we happened to find Laurence. He has not only taught my daughter exam techniques in how to answer the questions specifically and correctly, but also manage through his bespoke teaching method, to enable my daughter to gain confidence in herself. She was inspired and enjoyed every class. I am grateful for his patience and admire his talent and passion. He is highly recommended.

Laurence’s methods were so impactful to my son’s English Lit and Language GCSE performance. The practice, guidance and encouragement to be bold with his language made a huge difference to his confidence. Laurence’s expertise as both a teacher and an examiner helped him understand how to approach the questions and ensure his text interpretation and responses were composed to his best advantage. Where my son had been struggling around a 4 he achieved a 5 in Lit and 6 in Lang. So proud of him and very much appreciate Laurence’s excellent support.

My daughter is dyslexic and was finding English difficult. Being in lockdown and out of school so much though years 10 and 11 meant the support and time she needed in class weren't there. She needed at least a 6 in all 9 of her GCSEs for her chosen A levels. She was predicted a 5 in literature and 6 in language. We tried a local tutor, who although lovely, wasn't right for her.
We then found Laurence on line. His approach really suited her. He taught how to approach and answer questions with clear steps. The feedback and rewriting helped her learn how to improve her work; her English teacher commented on the improvement in her written work within a few weeks. The increase in green comments over the weeks helped to boost her confidence too. She has also been able to use the skills learnt to help write her A Level essays.
She achieved a 7 in English literature and despite having a really bad day on her language exam, still got the 6 she needed. She was sure these grades were thanks to the support she received from Laurence. I would definitely agree.

Our son received his mock GCSE results in January and was disappointed with his grades for both English Language and English Literature. English has never been his favourite subject but he realised that it is an essential subject and that if he didn’t pass his English exams then he would have to resit them - which we all wanted to avoid!
After 2 years of very disruptive education due to COVID and not particularly liking his rather old fashioned English teacher at school, we decided to find him a tutor. Many of those available were students with no actual teaching knowledge or they seemed to be older retired teachers. Laurence, however had many years of recent teaching experience and had clear and up to date exam expectations. Although a little anxious to begin the first session, our son soon settled into Laurence’s style of tutoring. His confidence has increased dramatically over the last few months and he now feels much better prepared for his English exams.
To quote our son, “Well-I’ve learned more in the first 2 sessions with Laurence than I have over the last 2 years of lessons at school.”
Thank you Laurence for your professionalism and encouragement.

Lawrence is an excellent tutor. I was really struggling to find a tutor that my son felt comfortable with. Lawrence has been flexible with days and times. He really seems to understand teenagers and has given my son confidence to retake his English exam. He wasn't keen on a retake but working with Lawrence has given him knowledge and ability to retake. Looking to seeing his result in August. Would fully recommend!!!

We have been using Laurence for our son this last year leading upto his GCSE's. Laurence responded to our initial enquiry quickly and set our son a task to complete to initially assess his abilities.
Laurence is a responsive tutor giving constructive personalised feedback and as a direct result, our son has not only gained in confidence, his grades have improved by 2 grades.
Laurence has clear colour coded feedback which is personalised to our sons work and supports his ideas offering suggestions to further develop his work.
We have been so grateful to have found Laurence for our son and would happily recommend him to other families.

Both my sons have been or are being tutored by Laurence and I have been extremely pleased with the progress they have made. Laurence is supportive but challenging and both my boys found his lessons interesting and I didn’t get the usual moaning about not wanting to do the lessons ( always a big plus)
I would highly recommend Laurence

My daughter is very capable but she really lost her confidence with her English. We contacted Laurence on a recommendation from some friends and were not disappointed. He has really helped my daughter regain her confidence and enjoy English. My husband and I have been delighted and I can’t thank Laurence enough for his support.

Laurence is an excellent English tutor. The methods used, and the 2hr length of each lesson, are allowing my daughter to develop her confidence and skills in English. This is translating into benefits across other subjects too - due to her feeling less stress around exams. Laurence gives lots of encouragement and my daughter looks forward to her weekly lessons!

We would definitely recommend Laurence he was just the right person at just the right time for my son who received 8/9s in all subjects but got a 5 in English for his mock results.
His result after just working with Laurence for a short period has already gone up a grade.
He is an expert in his subject and I am so pleased I found him online, read the reviews and contacted him straight away.
Thankyou so much Laurence for being such a support for my sons educational journey.

Laurence was exactly what our daughter needed! Disillusioned with her English Teacher at school, she had become disengaged with the subject and was struggling in mock exams. She achieved a Grade 4 in her Year 10 mock and we decided to get some support to help her fully prepare for the final exams.
I came across Laurence's site and it ticked all the boxes, however our daughter was initially anxious and Laurence did a fantastic job of working through this and building up her confidence.
The 2 hour sessions are excellent and focused, we can see clear progress and development in her approach to answering questions and how prepared she feels to complete the final exams. Since working with Laurence she has completed another exam where she was one mark off a Grade 6 and continues to work with Laurence to push in the final few weeks. She even commented imagine how good my work would be if Laurence was my teacher all the time.
We can't thank Laurence enough for his hard work, dedication, subject knowledge and ability to engage our daughter to complete the work. We have no hesitation in recommending Laurence to others.
Thanks
Kate

I would highly recommend Laurence to anyone who is looking for tuition to support their child. We engaged Laurence, approximately one year before my daughter's GCSEs, following advice that she was working at a Grade 3 level for both English Language and English Literature. With Laurence's support and patience she achieved a Grade 6 in English Language and a 4 in English Literature.
Laurence's approach was methodical and consistent which was exactly what she needed. He is extremely knowledgeable and knows what is required to pass the national exams. He had various tips and techniques which she used in her essay writing. She still remembers them today and uses them when writing answers to A level business questions. Thanks Laurence for your help, it was invaluable.

We used Laurence to help our daughter with revision and extra help for her GCSE as her school was hopeless. Laurence was a great help he understood how she was an anxious student and gave her lots of priase. she has become more confident in her answers and has lots more knowledge which in turn should gain her a better grade.
He went at her pace and offered all help she needed.

Laurence is a professional person through and through. He elevated our daughter's understanding of English language and literature to achieve 8's in both her GCSEs.
Laurence is knowledgeable and patient and has many tips and techniques to help children achieve their best.

Laurence has been working with our daughter for just over a year now and we are thrilled with the difference it has made. Laurence has a clear and consistent way of working with his students which provides a familiar learning environment. Our daughter is aware of the expectations and through Laurence's teaching style, she knows and has it made explicit the key elements for successful writing.
Our daughter's confidence and overall ability has grown enormously since working with Laurence which has in turn filtered into other subjects.
When asking our daughter how she felt Laurence had assisted her, she said, 'He has REALLY helped me! Especially by finding the bits I find difficult and showing me how to improve. He explains things really clearly and his videos have been great. Each one shows you exactly what to do and what to include in your writing. I am much more confident when writing in other subjects now and my vocabulary is much wider.'
To say we are hugely grateful to Laurence would be an understatement. We know our daughter is in a far stronger position, more so now than ever before. We are incredibly lucky his name was given to us and we would wholeheartedly recommend him.

I found Laurence when we were desperately searching for someone who would help my daughter with her recently diagnosed dyslexia last year. Laurence contacted me within 20 minutes of my initial enquiry and it was clear that within our first few minutes of conversation that he both understood and could help with what we needed for her final GCSE year.
Laurence has single-handedly managed to increase my daughters grades by one level in not just English but by two levels in her other subjects: history and drama. This is due to his skill in being able to get his pupils to understand the complexity of essay writing and exam question answering. His use of the two hours tuition teaches how to analyse and understand context of text. With a child that doesn’t want to read books, I have generally been astounded at how she has managed to change this in herself.
We have been so grateful to Laurence and have recommended him to two friends who are also now using him. We will be tapping in to use his services for our youngest child in September. (Look out Laurence!)
We highly recommend Laurence as an outstanding, excellent tutor.

Laurence has worked with my son for about two years supporting him in both his English Language and Literature. When I first approached Laurence he asked my son to do a piece of written work for him so that he could assess where he was. He has continued to support and encourage my son over the last two years and his writing skills, comprehension and development of the English Language has improved. Although teaching is remote, Laurence is always available to message and we have telephone updates during the year. There are also 1-2-1 sessions which my son has every month. I am impressed by the level of detail that Laurence goes into to when both setting and marking my son's work. He always sends back his comments on the work with positive praise and an acknowledgement that my son is going above and beyond. From being a child that would do anything not to do his English work my son now quite happily sits down every weekend to carry out his work for Laurence. Laurence's teaching method's have worked for my son and I feel that my son is now in a far stronger position for his GCSE exams this year.

Mr Dalton is one of the best tutors that my son has ever encountered. My son was struggling so much in English as it was his weakest subject. A few months ago, we found Mr Dalton online, from the very first lesson, he was patient and extremely professional at all times. He sits down and ensures that my son has developed his skills every lesson. Mr Dalton has helped to boost my son's confidence, and has majorly improved his mock exam results. My son looks forward to every lesson with Mr Dalton now. As well as all of this, Mr Dalton never rushes to end the lesson sharply on time, instead, Mr Dalton prefers that my son stays over time, so that my son entirely understands the content that he is studying.
Mr Dalton has my highest recommendation, and we thank him very much.
