The hire car was badly damaged when I picked it up. I didn't expect this much external damage with Europcar. This hire cost €35 per day (we did not buy extra insurance) with unlimited mileage.

Terrible
Terrible. They don’t have any idea what they are doing. Especially in Barcelona Sants railway station. They do not accept international driving licenses, qatar driving licence and Indian driving licence. Unless you are ready to pay extra and book it at the counter.

This place is the biggest rip off
This place is the biggest rip off
They said I needed 2 forms of ID for the car I was hiring and this was very very unclear from the web site.. We therefore got a lesser car for the same price as the premium car.. Then they give the option for a daily instance upsell of €38 per day or you’ll have face a €5000 excess.. €38 per day for medium cover and €48 per day for full cover?? They added another €270 for the weeks hire.. This is a dishonest and unpleasant company.. Avoid.. I will never use them again. Advice is to check the other car hire cos for their daily insurance cover costs and their excess before using anyone. Europcar are scammers and should be investigated by the authorities

Hired car had a flat tyre on our last day. It was removed by tow truck rather than repair and we had to travel to Seville airport to pick up a replacement car to allow us to travel to Málaga airport. When returning the car they charged us for damage despite only having it for a short time and charged us for 7 days hire for each car amounting to over 1000 euros. Do not use Europcar as this seems to be a common occurrence.

Hire car Barcelona Airport
Hire car was collected late evening at Terminal One Barcelona Airport,Documentation in Spanish that I did sign/initialed include Premium Pack insurance at €44 per day!!!,I had expressly asked for no additional insurance as I have excess cover through my Bank.
Europcar customer service quite responsive but dismissive of my claims that at no time was insurance mentioned and insurance payment was spookily close to expected deposit payment.
Be very wary of Europcar desk service at Barcelona Airport

Europcar, Nerja, Costa del sol
Upon arrival in Nerja the office was closed for a fiesta, despite booking and paying in advance. Picked car up following day.No apologies.Contacted europcar uk upon our return. As it was less than 24 hrs later that we got the car, cannot refund any money,Not even a gesture of goodwill! Will not use Europcar again.

The service I received was far below…
The service I received was far below the standard I would expect from Europcar. The team member was unprofessional, unhelpful, and appeared more focused on selling additional products, such as insurance, than on providing proper customer service.
There was a clear lack of communication and customer care throughout the interaction. Rather than addressing my concerns and ensuring a smooth rental experience, I felt pressured into considering extra services that I had not requested.
I am particularly disappointed because I expected a much higher level of professionalism, transparency, and customer focus from a company with Europcar’s reputation. Unfortunately, this experience did not reflect those standards at all.

Amazing service at Malaga airport
We were let down by the poor service at a different car rental when we arrived at Malaga. Luckily Carla at Europcar gave us an amazing deal and saved the start of our holiday. Thank you so much Carla
Charged me double and won't refund.
When i rented a car from Mallorca airport, they offered me a free upgrade due to having a 4 year old and my wife being pregnant. It was late in the evening and I was incredibly tired so I thought this was a nice gesture. Then my invoice they charged me over 400 euros for the upgrade, making the cost almost twice as expensive. I've tried to talk to them about this and their only response was "you signed the documents on pick up", basically washing their hands saying they don't care.
On top of this, our car got a flat tyre and i phoned europcar, they sent a pickup truck to get our car, and then they said they would send a taxi to collect us. After an hour of waiting no taxi appeared, so i phoned again and they said oh yeah we couldn't get you one so you'll have to find your own way back to your hotel. This wasn't exactly helpful when you have a pregnant wife and a 4 year old, they could have just said that in the first place. I then had to make my way to the airport to get a new car.
Absolutely disgusted with the service I got here, it seems like they absolutely don't care about you at all and just want to milk as much money from you as possible. Don't ever accept an upgrade no matter what they say. Will be fighting this and challenging this.
Big mistake Europcar Madrid Airport
Hi, I rented a card from Keddy by Europcar via Booking. I paid 204,06 Euros. When we arrived Madrid to pickup the car, the representative made us a suggestion for another car with lower emission in considering the Madrid milieu-zone. We asked the difference in pricing. He came with an offer and told us that the difference will be around ~100 Euro in total. It seemed indeed to be a better option for us with that amount of difference. So, we accepted his offer and then he prepared papers. On that paper stated a total amount of 297,56 Euros. It was indeed just around ~100 Euro difference in total in compare with 204,06 Euros. So we signed it and took the car. We delivered the car back and came back to the Netherlands. I saw then an amount of 343,44 Euro taken from my creditcard. I was expecting my initial payment of 204,06 (to booking) to be deducted from the total amount and 139,38 euros to be taken. So, I called helpdesk and they told me a totally different story. They said whatever I paid to Booking was for the car and this new amount is pure for extra insurance etc. This is not acceptable and totally nonsense. The initial communication with the representator in the Madrid airport was clear, we should have only paid around ~100 euros extra for this new car, not ~300. They tried to get a traffic fine to be paid twice even after their own proof of payment confirmation. Never ever again.. Now I know why they use a different name on Booking. Their own name is so dirty.
Europcar Alicante Airport
Europcar Alicante Airport — avoid if booking through a third party.
Arrived 3 hours late due to a documented flight delay — something entirely outside my control. Despite holding a fully paid 7-day reservation, staff refused to release the vehicle and claimed no suitable cars were available. However, the exact same vehicle category was bookable on the Europcar website at that very moment.
Staff at Alicante Airport were not just unhelpful — they were disrespectful and as soon as they knew the booking was through a third party the attitude changed. No attempt was made to find a solution or show any basic goodwill.
I was forced to rent elsewhere. Although I received a refund, it only covered 4 of the 7 days — meaning I effectively paid Europcar and Booking.com for 3 days of a car I never received.
Warning: if you book through a third party like Booking.com, Europcar treats you as someone else's customer. Book directly if you want any chance of flexibility when things go wrong.
We had a very disappointing experience…
We had a very disappointing experience with Europcar in central Barcelona. Upon returning the car, they claimed that we had caused damage, despite the fact that we have clear photo evidence showing that the damage was already present at the time of pickup.
When we tried to address the issue, the staff were unhelpful and, at times, outright rude. Even more concerning is that they have not responded to any of our follow‑up messages, which shows a clear lack of professionalism and accountability.
This kind of behavior—making unfounded claims and then ignoring customers—is unacceptable. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this rental company.
By far the worst car rental experience we have had in Barcelona.
False Damage Claims and Customer Fraud Concerns – Extremely Disappointing Experience with Europcar
Extremely disappointing and stressful experience with Europcar.
After returning our rental van in Barcelona, we received an invoice for damages that were already present on the vehicle when we picked it up. Fortunately, we had carefully documented the condition of the van with both photos and video recordings at the time of collection, clearly showing the exact same damages Europcar later attempted to charge us for.
What makes this even more frustrating is that Europcar staff themselves repeatedly told us that taking photos of the vehicle would be sufficient proof in case of any dispute. The staff at the pickup office specifically said they did not need to inspect the vehicle with us, and customer service later confirmed the same information by phone. We followed all instructions given to us.
Despite providing clear evidence proving the damages were pre-existing, Europcar still issued charges to our account. We immediately contacted customer service, submitted the documentation, and disputed the invoice, yet our emails were ignored for over a week.
It is unacceptable for a major rental company to charge customers for pre-existing damage while simultaneously failing to follow proper inspection procedures themselves. The entire process has been extremely time-consuming, stressful, and unprofessional.
I strongly recommend that anyone renting from Europcar thoroughly document every single part of the vehicle before leaving the rental office, as it appears customers may otherwise risk being charged for damages they did not cause.
Or the best option, do not rent from Europcar at all.
took my deposit and never gave it back…
took my deposit and never gave it back , saying there was a stain on the seat, it was sand on the seat , which is a £10 wipe up max , I belive they took this as I didn’t pay for premium insurances which was expensive !
Ripped off when returning the vehicle
The person who I returned the vehicle to was rude and I could not understand him (him and I both speak Spanish natively)
They charged me 134 euro for a tiny scruff that could have easily been caused by the road, I didn’t argue because I am covered by my insurance but I felt ripped off.
60 euro for the scruff which felt reasonable
And then 74 euro as an “admin fee” which I found ridiculous
I have been using europcar for 4 years and I will never use them again if I have an alternative.
My experience was with Europcar @…
My experience was with Europcar @ Mallorca Airport. Easy key pickup at the airport across the baggage belt. We had a Premium car so overall a good experience. Would use Europcar again next visit to Mallorca.
Stay far away from this scam…
Stay far away from this scam company(Europcar Alicante). We rented a car from them in March. When we picked up the car, they pushed an extra insurance package on us costing several hundred euros, claiming that we would then be fully covered for everything. Normally, I would never agree to something like that, but because the whole situation already felt suspicious and because of the reviews we had read about this company, we decided to go along with it. It gave us some peace of mind, since we had already seen many reviews from people claiming they had been scammed.
When we picked up the car, no employee even came outside with us. They simply handed us the keys. We already found this questionable, but because we had just paid several hundred euros extra for “full coverage,” we assumed it would not be an issue. We made several videos of the car beforehand because there was already visible damage on it.
From day one, the car already had multiple issues. There was no windshield washer fluid, the air conditioning barely worked, and to make matters worse, the tire pressure warning light was on because the tires were not properly inflated. We reported all of this, but nothing was done about it.
After our holiday, we returned the car neatly to the designated location. When we handed over the keys, we even asked whether the car needed to be inspected. The woman replied: “No, that’s not necessary because you are fully insured.” We found that strange, but after paying several hundred euros for extra insurance, we assumed everything was fine.
A month later, we suddenly received a damage notice from Europcar Alicante claiming that a compressor was missing and that we owed €400. We did not agree with this and immediately contacted Europcar. We spoke to an employee who initially seemed friendly and helpful. He completely understood our situation and told us he would add a note stating that we disputed the damage claim and that the €400 should not be charged to our credit card until the matter had been fully investigated. According to him, this would not be a problem.
Two days later, they charged the €400 anyway.
The employee had also told us to send an email to Europcar, which we did immediately after the phone call. We later received a generic response from Europcar, even trying to blame us by saying it was our responsibility that the car had not been inspected by an employee — despite the fact that we specifically asked for this when returning the keys.
After doing some research, we discovered that less than two months ago, another customer had been scammed in exactly the same way by this company. Apparently, many more people have experienced similar situations. The internet is full of complaints about them.
We are not letting this go and will continue fighting until we get our €400 back. We have also informed our bank that this company scams customers.
Do not do business with this company, because there is a very high chance you will get scammed.
Avoid Europcar Tenerife
Avoid Europcar Tenerife - appaulling and aggressive behaviour fomr the staff on arrival after a 3 hour delay. Blaming us for not letting them know. They had sold our class car on giving us no choice but to pay £140 ish for an upgrade. Our other option was no car at 11pm at night with an hour drive ahead.
Dishonest company - looking for any excuse to charge you!
Avoid Europcar at all costs! They charged me nearly €190 for a tiny scratch that was barely visible. If you don't purchase their full insurance, they will find 'damage' on the car even if you were extremely careful. The repair estimates are inflated and they add a massive 'administration fee' on top. Very dishonest business practices. Use a different rental provider!"
Fraudulent franchise shame on Europcar
First hire car broke down less than 1/2 mile from airport, had to argue to get a banged up old Skoda to replace it. Then due to their drop and go service got a bill for a scratch we know we didn’t make, on a car covered in scratches and dents already. Paid it and wrote it off as tourist tax but now a month later, without any correspondence or authorisation they just too another £123 from my account which I have reported as fraud.shame on the brand, seem completely unaccountable and illegal. Avoid at all cost.
