I can often find a BMD on FMP where it just doesn't 'pop up' on other sites. Its frustrating when you use identical data on both. Not being able to see the actual Baptism, Marriage or Death original... See more

Was easy to find my ancestor in several records, including a workhouse minutes book. There are records beyond the usual life vital records; which are not found on other family history sites. Our ancestors are more than their vital records. You can find them on Find My Past.

Found the website couldn’t handle the family tree matches well - even with a small tree, it often would take a while to load hints, would mess up and not add things, would fail to update hints, etc. The lag was horrendous.
And I wouldn’t say any of the documents on the website were unique enough to justify a subscription. Unfortunately with rapid digitization of today, not much is unique and a lot of other websites have the same info.
I did like the percentages given to possible documents, that was handy.

I did not give FMP 5 stars because I am still getting familiar with the program. In spite of the learning curve I have found some new information on a brick wall I have been trying to break for years.

Too hard to use the family tree part and too expensive

The website overhaul a couple of years ago introduced several usability issues. Whilst it's great to get access to the data (especially the newspapers), the frustrations that occur when trying to perform even the most basic of tasks mean that the fun has been taken out of it and I don't bother to do nearly as much genealogy as before

Cancelled within 14 days but refused to give a refund as I had "used too much"!
3 March 2025 purchased

The "no questions asked cancellation" is a scam.

I love that I am able to research and look up my ancestors and learn more about them with all the information that you provide, the Parish records are a glance of how bishops and pastors kept records.
Findmypast is a family history site that I have used for many years now. I use about five family history websites and this one is up there with the best.

So I tried to sign in thru my church account. But alas it won't let me. The original link I was given no longer works. Maybe this is good for a first timer but I find this experience to be at most fustrating.

The people at the rootstech booth were extremely helpful when I wanted to upgrade my subscription from FS free to full access.

I have been researching for about 10 years and always found FMP too expensive. However I was becoming frustrated with limited access to 1921 census and as they offered a 30% reduction finally bit the bullet. I didn't realise that Ancestry.com was opening up the records very shortly afterwards so felt a little silly.
However I have been using FMP on and off for a month or so and find it increasingly annoying that you cannot open certain information in separate windows for inspection and have to spend a lot of time hitting the back button far too many times.
Ancestry (for me) seems far more intuitive. - and better deals £££ to be had

I do not find working with my tree in Findmypast to be very easy and find myself racing back to FamilySearch or Ancestry because that is where I am comfortable. However I do like the resources which are found in Findmypast, and am very grateful for the ability to access those resources.

I was able to gain information on some of my distant ancestors as well as add a few more to the Family Tree which may benefit others who were researching their relatives.

I like it but don’t understand why it is so difficult to get my family tree transferred. Other places let me populate my tree from other places like Family Search. Find my past won’t let me do that. If I could transfer my family tree from other sites, I’d rank it higher. Trying to rebuild my tree is a pain.
