‘Brilliant… it is all that Dune was, and maybe a little more.’
  1. Galaxy Magazine
Lose yourself once more in the sands of Arrakis with Frank Herbert’s monumental Dune: Messiah. The second instalment of one of the most important sci-fi visions of the 20th century is presented in a unique illustrated edition from Folio. Paul Atreides has been Emperor of the Known Universe for 12 troubled years. He is the most formidable being in the universe, yet powerless to stop the catastrophic galaxy-wide war triggered by his ascension to the throne. Paul’s sweeping, tragic saga is illustrated by award-winning artist – and self-confessed Dune superfan – Hilary Clarcq. This edition also includes Herbert’s elusive ‘Death Cell Interview’ prologue, a dramatic recap of the first book that he wrote for the first UK edition of Dune: Messiah in 1971 and has appeared sporadically in versions ever since. Whether you’re familiar with Dune from the classic novel or the blockbuster movies, the Folio edition of Dune: Messiah is the vital next step in your journey.

A beautiful volume. I love how it is aesthetically connected to the Folio edition of Dune, and the soon-to-come release of 'Children of Dune'.

Gorgeous volume to accompany the first book. Hope to see the remainder of the series treated as well soon.

Like Folio's Dune Part I - this is an exquisite version of the follow-up novel and I'd very highly recommend this edition. Font design and layout seem to be more or less similar to Dune - very neat and tastefully done. The artwork this time is by Hilary Clarcq who also knocks it out of the park - there are some beautiful visual interpretations of Frank Herbert's words to be found in here. Again, this is probably the best version of this novel I'll ever own.

I love the first Dune books. The art, design and overall quality of the Folio edition of this one is worthy of the story contained.

The pseudophilosophical passages get in the way of the story. Illustrations are beautiful

I think Frank Herbert was missing the originality and fluidity of 'Dune'. However this does not relect on the quality of the Folio book and helps to understand the themes of the movies 'Dune' and 'Dune 2'.

An excellent novel, leaner than the first (and some might argue even better than the original for that reason), which takes the mostly-implied warnings of the previous novel and begins to spin out their consequences. The change of artist from Sam Weber, whose work illustrating the first novel was excellent, to Hilary Clarcq for this novel is interesting and evocative. Here's hoping we can get "Children" next, at the very least!

Superb to say the least. The Dune magic continues with Dune: Messiah. The original Dune remains the yard stick of artistic beauty and to that end, Dune: Messiah does not disappoint. Just fabulous.

Cost not proportionate to the first book. Half the size and less images. Would have been nice if it featured the same artist from the first book.

I love the design of this book and the slipcase. It's beautifully in line with the first book. It makes the reading experience a luxury one. Hope they release the remaining 4 original Frank Herbert books in the same manner.
