‘Brilliant… it is all that Dune was, and maybe a little more.’
  1. Galaxy Magazine
Lose yourself once more in the sands of Arrakis with Frank Herbert’s monumental Dune: Messiah. The second instalment of one of the most important sci-fi visions of the 20th century is presented in a unique illustrated edition from Folio. Paul Atreides has been Emperor of the Known Universe for 12 troubled years. He is the most formidable being in the universe, yet powerless to stop the catastrophic galaxy-wide war triggered by his ascension to the throne. Paul’s sweeping, tragic saga is illustrated by award-winning artist – and self-confessed Dune superfan – Hilary Clarcq. This edition also includes Herbert’s elusive ‘Death Cell Interview’ prologue, a dramatic recap of the first book that he wrote for the first UK edition of Dune: Messiah in 1971 and has appeared sporadically in versions ever since. Whether you’re familiar with Dune from the classic novel or the blockbuster movies, the Folio edition of Dune: Messiah is the vital next step in your journey.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The original novel is superior to 'DUNE: Messiah' in almost every way (although the artwork in the Folio Society edition might be better than the illustrations in part I); but it wasn't Herbert's intention to create a better novel (or a complete novel, at all), he seemingly wished to enrich/ enhance the readers' experience on Arrakis, and I think that he achieved this quite successfully!

What can I say that I did not mention in my first Dune review? Again, the artwork, the quality, etc. achieve excellence. Again, if you are not a a lot into Dune then this is not your edition. There are cheaper editions that not imply paying for a small piece of visual art. The only problem I can think of is that the rest of the Dune Chronicles have not been yet published in such a wonderful edition.

I somehow missed that it was a 2nd edition. I prefer to buy the 1st editions. I am looking for the first 6 books of this series and am waiting for the 3rd book now.

These books are fantastic, however this one stood out so much, I ended up with 4 Folio books, and the cover and materials on the Messiah are immaculate, absolutely great design and formatting all round, say what you will about "not judging by the cover" however presentation with books does have it's own say and makes you want to read and enjoy a book if done right, the fact that the slipcover has some art too is extra points, might be getting the original Dune book later as well!

The book is outstandingly beautiful. They are a bit pricey especially when you include shipping to the US.

Beautifully designed and a pleasure to read with sharp, clear typography. My only quibble is a few loose pages in the middle of the book.

As much as I love my copy of Dune from Folio, I love my copy of Dune Messiah even more! The coloring on this copy is GORGEOUS. I mean, the little Muad'Dib is golden on the cover. Golden! What more could one want?
