After confirming reservations on the phone 2 times with Galdierirents in Olbia and with Doyouitaly.com; there was no mention of International Drivers (IDP) License required as a US citizen. Of coarse it is hidden deep inside their Rules and policy statement. Searched now 3 times under Car Rental to find any mention outside of Terms and Conditions of a Non EU traveller needing a IDP. They say”we are at the service of travellers in Italy”. How’s is being stranded at the airport a service? Once I was there to pickup car, they told me I must have it. I had rented several times in Italy and on Sardegna and never was asked for this. In fact I ended up renting from another agency and they did not ask for an IDP. Now DoyouItaly refuses to give me any refund. I lost €260. Check the reviews before renting with Galdierirents.com or Doyouitaly.com.
The rate is truly “too good to be true”!

Please never use this company. Just arrived in Milan and they refused to give us a car because we were 5 min late!
Thank you your prompt response. I wish all you employees are so efficient. Unfortunately as you well know this is not correct. My contract states 90 minutes and I sent you a copy.
It also does not explain highly aggressive and inappropriate behaviour we experienced yesterday. I’m am still shaken and upset and you are not even prepared to investigate it. With your response you are just adding to the injury. It would preferable to own up to what happened and apologise.

I rented a car with Galdieri rent at Naples airport via DoYouItaly.com (which is a broker). I choose a Crossover/SUV class, Fiat 500X.
At the pick up, Galdieri didn't have the car I chose. So, they decided to give me a Skoda Fabia, stating it was the same class as the one I had chosen in my booking. It seemed wrong to me, but as I was on holiday, I didn't want to argue, risking to ruin my holiday without a car, so I accepted the car believing what Gavino told me at the desk and so I picked up the Fabia. Later on, I went on Galdieri website and started a chat to ask about the class of the two cars (Skoda Fabia and Fiat 500X).
Massimo, Galdieri's customer assistant on chat with me, stated that the Fiat 500X is a Crossover hence is a medium size car while the Skoda Fabia is a small car.
At the end of my hiring period I went back to Galdieri and asked for a partial refund as the car they gave me it's not what I paid for.
They simply refused to do so stating that as I accepted the car there wasn't any refund due.
PLEASE AVOID GALDIERI
THEY ARE THE PLAGUE AND THEY ARE CROOKS

As stated above, and I reiterate here again, I choose a Crossover not a small car. I was given a Skoda Fabia which is classified, from Galdieri, as SMALL CAR. And I have proof of it.

This place SUCKS. I rented a 9passenger via discovercars.com and they were the supplier. The van they gave me had an issue with the sliding door; it doesn’t close well and the dashboard indicates a door not closed. As soon as I started to drive it started to beep, so I backed up and came back to the office and informed Claudia and she reffered to the man sitting next to her, who was trying to be aggressive and denying the issue. They refused to give me another vehicle and since I had no other option I decided to go ahead with it. All through out the time I had rented it was very stressful and fearful thinking it will open and was annoyed because it kept on beeping. I had all my kids sit in the last row and them buckle up. This vehicle, license #:FM753GN, had over 100k mileage and the body is totally hacked. They made me buy extra insurance on top of what Inahd already bought online. When I returned the vehicle, the guy behind the counter had the nerve to request to write a good review. These guys are scammer and DONOT rent from them, especially the license plate vehicle I had mentioned here.

Complete rip off merchants. We arrived in Milan after paying for our vehicle via Carjet.com. The trip from the airport to Galdieri was much longer than advertised. We were exhausted by the time we arrived. Then the Galdieri employee pretended he could not find our reservation and that we needed to book a new reservation. Surprise surprise the price of the “new” rental for the exact same car we booked via Carjet was more than double the price. The Galdieri guy even refused to credit us what we’d already paid via Carjet for the car. We rented multiple cars in London, Bari and Kos without issue. All car rental places try to get you to pay more at the point of rental but Galdieri’s tactics are deceitful and illegal.

After we rent a car at Galdieri rent, I'd like to make a complaint about the costs.
For 2 days rental we used to pay 55 euro.
But because our creditcard did not work we had to pay 125 euro extra with our Mastercard. The employer did a trick to also use the creditcard.
We are really disappointed about the extra costs we had to make and we think this is not the way to help your costumers by let them pay 125 euro extra. We wanted to ask for a refund because we think we deserve some money back after we paid 125 euro extra for our vacation. But I can't reach them by their e-mail adress. So this was a very expensive rental.

As you can see from the response from 'Galdierirent'. Horrendous! They know who I am, and do I have details of their names? No, I don't! I have posted on GOOGLE REVIEWS a copy of an email correspondence. If you think my terminology is inappropriate Galdierirent, then you clearly don't have any self awareness. I am being very mild with my terminology....believe me, very mild, considering the complete ignorance I've been dealing with. I would strongly advise you to just provide evidence of repairs for a wheel arch being completed, and send to my insurance company Orchard finance. This is all that is needed, but you have consistently refused to provide this over a number of weeks. All highly suspect!!
There was some damage to the car I rented and I had full insurance with doyouitaly. I hired the car and insurance together. This company took the payment for the damage from me in advance (from a credit card initially refused by them... but yeah, they almost took my hand off for the payment), leading me to believe it would be quicker for the insurance company to pay out and refund me.
They are ignoring emails from me and the insurance company, requesting a document to proceed with the claim. I'm now in the process of making a claim with my credit card company to retrieve the payment I made to them. The insurance company has advised me to do this as they are not cooperating. No doubt I'll get a condescending response from the 'owner', as I've seen on other negative reviews, banging on about the T&C's/policies. Basically, this horrid company has a big fat 0 of integrity! Do not trust them, and do not use them. THEY DO NOT DESERVE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!
It does appear that they have taken more money than the cost of repairs and/or are hiding something. They are basically refusing to provide evidence for the charges of repair. When I called them about the document needed, and stated this, the condescending idiot replied, 'you returned the car damaged'. Seriously!!?? I've now given the insurance company authorisation to deal with these complete cowboys.
Please go to another car rental company and don't ruin your holiday by using these con men!

Car worked perfectly during the time we spent in the island, and It turned out quite useful. Trouble started when we were waiting to receive the car, as much as when giving It back. Administration there was painfuly slow, taking us more than one hour each time to complete the process. You should come with spare time if you don't wanna risk missing your flights or other expenses.

Paid 460€ on place.
Additional insurance did not cove deposit! So it was hold as well on credit card!!
80€ paid once I booked was taken as ( fee for carjet.com?? According to Galdieri rent!!!)
Car is picked up in Cagliari.
So once again I DO NOT RECCOMEND!
Answering Your replay let me please add that it’s not a problem arround extra insurance. But about offer presented by carjet.com which was not respected by Galdieri rent. It’s easy to see on the website, that choosing Galdieri rent through carjet.com Clients get a discount ( I’ve got arround 80€) and additionally had to pay some amount in advance. That amount should be taken on minus from total amount. Not any fee as You said.

The customer serivce there is completely unreliable.
We returned the car on 13th of June and they did not transfer the refund yet, and every time we ask the office manage there (Luca, 00393492333817) about the transaction ID of the refund, he either hangs up the phone or replies in a very rude way.
If you claim the you guys already transferred the refund, then please provide a transaction ID so we can track it with our bank.
Catania airport - just back from Sicily & you read a lot of negative reviews about car hire firms but Galdieri were spot on; quick and simple pick up (only one person queue in front of us) and straightforward return as well. Car what we'd ordered, low mileage, no issues. Staff were very helpful and professional, even gave us a recommendation for a beach bar! No pushy sale of additional insurance once I'd advised that I'd taken separate excess insurance. Overall just a hassle free hire with friendly and helpful staff.

We had the worst experience ever with Galdieri Napoli Central, they lack professionalism, politeness, and service, they're really rude and do not know how to deal with clients, we paid and booked a car but could not pick it up early, so they canceled the booking and took the down payment, then asked us to pay again.
It is totally unacceptable and would not recommend it at all

My review is for Galdieri at Venice airport. Here is some key info you (probably) wont find in your rental confirmation:
Firstly, they are *not* located at the airport. You need to call and request a shuttle pickup. Its approx a 10 min drive to get to the agency.
Secondly - and this is why Im giving only 1 star - if you are from *outside* the EU, they expect you to have an *international* driver's license. Huge surprise and they refused to rent me my car.
By EU law, you are *not* required to have an intl drivers license if youre in the EU for less than 90 days. So why theyd have such an internal(?) policy makes absolutely no sense.
Again, there was absolutely no mention of this requirement in my rental booking.
Sum total, i took the shuttle back to the airport and rented a car on the spot with my non-EU drivers license. No problems whatsoever.
Thank you maggiore car rental! You have a customer for life!!!

Becarful of these people! They are thiefs. The indication was wrong. We walked in 40 degree heat through out the airport and all parking . There was nothing of them. They are far. Arriving after asking everyone, they want to charge us more for the delay. I'm already losing money, for arriving later!. It was paid and reserved, they blame the online brokers and they don't help you at all. They did not want to call the police for the scam. Despite paying, we were left without a car and lost money. They are rude and want to take money from you for everything!!! It was in Olbia airport. For that I lost my hotel in Alghero, money and I must to book a new hotel in Olbia of emergency because we go with my child. They talked us badly every time and they try all the time to get more many for all.

I booked the car through DoYouItaly for which I had to pay a total of 349.29 EUR, so I paid the pre-booked amount of 111.29 EUR. I was supposed to pick up the car from Olbia airport, but I went there and found no one. After clarifications I called their customer service and I was told to go to an Italian local car rental company outside the airport, named Galdieri Rent Olbia. I got there where and their representative was waiting us for rent the car. However, after short discussion I found out that I can't pay with a debit card (even I paid for pre-booked with the same card) and if I want to rent the car Galdieri has an option to me - to leave an 800 Euro deposit and pay 800 Euro cash for the rent the same car which I booked. Pure coordinated and tolerated scam!
The Galdieri Rent representative had out our details which means that this illegality are done in coordination and cooperation, and most probably they have the same interest to put their customers in unpleasant situation to pay extra costs.
Don't use Galdieri!
Don't use DoYouItaly!
Stop to fool the people in good faith!

Lesson learned, though most international car rental agencies don't require an IDP (US license plus Passport is sufficient), Galdieri Rent will only rent to you without an IDP if you pay an additional 2x the rental rate for their add-on insurance. It's a scam. They also told me when I walked away that cancelling would mean I get all but "like 5 Euros" back. I am still unable to get any refund. So, they got my full week rental money, and didn't give me a car because I wasn't willing to pay their bribe.

Renting at Catania airport is never straightforward and so when I got the confirmation note from Galdierirent I was very careful to bring it to the desk with everything except you need to have a VISA credit (not debit card) for some reason. Everything we tried wouldn’t work but the woman on the desk said she could make the problem disappear if we paid double the original amount. The entire process was ridiculous and the people in the queue behind me also had the same problem. DO NOT use this company. They promise cheap rates but all the will happen is you will end up having to use another company on some trivial issue that they create. The problem can only be solved if you agree to pay double what you thought you were going to. It is a complete rip off. DO NOT use. They think they can take advantage of you when you land as you won’t go anywhere else. Use a big brand name, pay more but avoid the aggravation.
Received a fairly prompt response on TP but again their information was inaccurate. They do not accept AMEX and they failed to mention that their solution they offered doubled the price of the rental. Nothing is said about this in the initial agreement so anyone else in this situation can contest the down payment.
It is worth mentioning that the person behind me had a similar experience - everyone at the desk look exhausted. DO NOT use this company.

03.07.23 Monday to Saturday 08.07.23 and paid 50 euros in deposit. have written that we will land at 10 a.m. on Monday and hand over the car on Saturday. and because we landed late, I had to take a taxi to your company. your company close to the airport. they said our reservation is canceled because we didn't come 10.00 due to the flight delay. even if we didn't arrive on time, I can't understand why I can't rent the car. I had to pay 299 euros for renting the car from other companies and you have not returned the deposit either. refunded. it's not realistic. need the 50 euros so keep it and it's yours. just use the 50 euros. there is a lot of difference between Denmark and Italy.
DONT RENT A CAR FROM DET GALDIERI RENT FROM INTERNET PACE AND DO YOU ITALY PACE.

Diabolical service at Naples Airport, poor directions to the office, rude and indifferent staff on the desk, staff member taking us to our car just pointed at a white gate and said it's there. Car provided was not comparable to the one I ordered.
