Be Warned - Do Not Use Gate 1

Please be advised that it is not recommended to use this Travel Service through Sky Scanner. Our Family of 5 recently used this operator to book our flights to USA having searched through SkyScanner. They were hideous to deal with, first we had to make a change to a year of birth for our Son by 2 yrs due to a typo which they took ages to amend and they also charged us for and then when it came to having to change our return flight due to a positive covid test we gave up as they wanted to charge us for every aspect of this service. We were so blessed that the Airline we used was Virgin Atlantic and they were fantastic ], they accepted that we could not deal with Gate1 due to their horrendous service model and they made the changes for us directly. DO not Use Gate 1 unless you are prepared for poor service and exorbitant charges for any additional requirements. Be Warned

No response, no phone number ... Totally ignored

Requested online to change my flight and they promised to contact me to discuss costs but no contact of course. Called the airline to address the issue, unfortunately they can't do anything because apparently travel agency owns the tickets until check in which is of course too late as I am trying to fly before the schedule date. It's very sad that days are passing by, tickets fare are getting more and more expensive (5 times more expensive now) but still being ignored by them. There is no phone number that we can call apart of an urgent line that if we call they will charge us if it is classified as non emergency. Online contact forms are auto response. I emailed airline and I said that I am willing myself to fly earlier and they were happy to change the outbound flight no extra costs but they would need travel agency to authorize them to make the change. Emailed Gate1 but no response of course. I understand that we are going through a pandemic but this is nearly 2 years and they shouldn't be treating us like that, at least have a proper customer service contact and someone we can talk to.

Refund

I booked flights to Cancun and only realised afterwards that I couldn't do the stop overs in America on the way there because of covid ban.
I had no insurance or cancellation policy but they were very helpful and responded to me quickly and during the weekend.
They gave me a refund and just charged a small fee. I was delighted as I thought that I would only be able to change the flights.
Thanks Gate 1 🙂🙂👍👍

Cancelled for no reason

Paid for a set of three flights from different airlines on Wednesday and received booking confirmation etc. By Friday, it said that the booking was automatically cancelled (for no reason). Horrible company and I'm not hoping to get back a full refund.

Run far away from them.

Looking for Gate1's Postal Address in the Netherlands to Sue!!!

Hi Guys,

I am in the same boat as everyone else. I have a claim in with the European Small Claims Court at the moment and they attempted to notify Gate1 of the claim through the address I provided them with in the Netherlands. Unfortunately, the letter was sent back to the small claims court as undelivered as the postal service in the Netherlands had said that they are no longer at the address I had provided.

I am seeking help and looking for anyones assistance where possible in getting my hands on the address for Gate1's head office in the Netherlands?

It really is such a shambolic company.

Thanks in advance,

Justin

Do not book with Gate1

Please do not book anything with Gate1. My flights were cancelled by the airline due to Covid and Gate1 told me that a cancellation would be applied. I don’t understand why I have to pay a cancellation fee if flights were cancelled by the airline. Anyway, next message full amount would be taken as a cancellation fee: nearly 4K euro. Now, spoke to the airline and they emailed me a letter saying that there is no cancellation fee at all and they advised Gate1 to fully refund me. Unfortunately 7 months later no action from Gate1. On their website there is message that no phone available, only email. Already sent several emails but no reply. This is a joke and very disrespectful and I can’t believe how they can get away. Irish consumer can’t do anything because Gate1’s office is based in the Netherlands. EU Small Claims can’t accept my complaint because amount to be claimed is over it’s limit. I am completely disappointed.

Avoid like the plague

Avoid like the plague. This is a completely bogus company that robs people. Once you book you are stuck. I made a booking and not only did they give me the wrong dates not requested but there is no contact information whatsoever for the company available. Appears legit but its not, buyer beware

Avoid

After trying to get through to gate1 for 5 months the airline cancelled my flight.
Gate1 won't refund me and instead gave me a voucher for 120 euro less ,it's been 7 months and I still can't get through to them.
I don't want a voucher as I wouldn't trust flying with these.

Avoid Gate 1…

My flights to Florida were cancelled last May, not before Gate1 tried to reroute through 2 different airports. I had to wait 5 months after sending them multiple emails demanding my money back for the offer of a voucher. I refused to accept the voucher at which point they offered me a cash refund less €55 admin fee. I will never book through these gangsters again.

A potential way to salvage a bad situation

Same story as everyone else... Tickets booked in Feb for a flight in May. Flight cancelled by the airline, received a placeholder email from the agent saying delays were to be expected with refunds etc and then, all lines of communication were closed. I honestly thought the money was lost.

But...

Having done some research on supplier non-performance, in the event that you paid for a service with a credit / debit card and said service was not provided (such as a flight) and:

- you have made every effort to recover the funds
- and the provider is non-responsive

Then you do have a right to make a claim to your card provider.

Note: certain requirements have to be met, Visa / Matercard / AMEX all have different criteria to be met but, generally, you need to be within 120 days of either (a) the transaction date or (b) the date the service was not provided (i.e. the flights departure date).

In my case, my bank and ultimately, Visa, refunded the money to me, within a week of making the claim, no further questions asked (evidence was provided with my application however).

If you google 'Visa VCR Code 13.1' it should provide further light on the matter.

Lesson learned using these online travel agents with no balance sheet and no way of contacting them. I'll go direct with the airline next time.

Good luck everyone and thanks for your reviews (they spurred my initial research!)

I GOT A REFUND..

I GOT A REFUND... after suing them.

To anyone else who has been messed around by this awful company with Covid cancelled flights. I simply sued them through the European Small Claims procedure. It was very easy and they refunded me within a couple of weeks. It only cost me €25.00 to issue the case and I got my €800 ticket refunded.

Tip no reply, take also contact with Airline customer service

Just like everyone no reply to my emails.
Take contact otherwise directly with you airlines customer services, if you do not hear from gate1.ie.
It is not the way, but you might be risking a no show if only a part of you flights is canceld. And gate1 do not inform them on time. This might have consequences for the money that you will get back.
I was fortunately that all of my flights where with 1 airline.
Because my first flight is to departure in July.
I contacted with the airline customer Service to ask for information. And just one of my 4 flights was canceld. (I did know what nummer gate1 was using because the flight time has been changed and their where booking letters involved too). My flight was in two steps, and the second half is canceld by my Airlines. This mean I can have total refund. They have already inform gate1.ie, but I did not hear from them about the cancellation. The airline’s customer services where still waiting to know what I wanted to do because they do not have my e-mailaddres. They have only gate1 e-mailaddres. You will be risking a no show for the other 3 flights that are still flying. That is wat I hear from the customer services from my Airlines, it was possible by this Airlines customer services to cancel all of my fights with total refund. I do not know if you can do that with other airlines. But you can try. The refund I still have to get it back from gate 1.

Where is the customer service in Gate1?

Please Gate1, I need to contact you, I have a flight in 5 days more, that was cancelled, and you gave me a voucher, however I need to reebook my flights.

How does this work? I sent and email weeks ago, that was never replied, how can we proceed without you charging extra?

This are difficult moment for everyone, and we as customers will remember if you help us in this matters or not.

STAY AWAY - HORRIBLE

Customer Service is not reachable. really Horrible.

It seems like they stole my refund due to coronavirus cancel.

I asked for a refund as offered by my airline company, and gate1.ie sent me an email in which they sent me a voucher saying I can use on their website to buy ticket from ANY airline, which means they got my money from my airline but not passing it back to me!
