The holiday was great, excellent Tour Manager, nice hotel, great food and in the main interesting trips ( apart from 5 hours in Sarlat Market!) However the time travelling there (left 08.00am from London and arrived 09:00pm) is just too long, return journeys were a little quicker though. One other downside was the size of the group (40) was way too many to enable proper socialization.

An interesting way to visit and enjoy this fascinating area. Super hotel and great tour management.
Lived up to my expectations
Great holiday. Nice hotel on good location. Good tour guide
A great trip, especially for any one who enjoys fabulous scenery, good food, antiquities and the whole business of travelling from A to B. We were well looked after throughout by an excellent tour manager who organised us without being in any way intrusive. Good value and relaxing.
We very much enjoyed our holiday to the historic Dordogne region with GRJ, which was very well managed throughout by our Tour Manager, Heidi, and all the travelling went very smoothly, both by train and the local coach connections to places of interest. Generally the daily timings were good, and we have already put forward some suggestions for improving them. The restaurant where we had three meals as part of the itinerary was generally OK, but the menu lacked imagination where the vegetables were concerned, and the desserts needed to be improved. I think that some comment should be made about the hotel accommodation, which could have been better. Although the overall location was good in relation to places of interest, it was not very well located in relation to the centre of Les Eyzies, resulting in a rather long (10-minute) walk to the local restaurant(s). The hotel itself was well-run by a very hospitable and helpful owner, but it was in need of modernisation, particularly in respect of the en-suite facilities, and the decor was in need of an uplift, and some pictures in the corridors would add some colour and interest. However, the hotel was nice and clean, all the staff were good and the breakfasts were fine. The pool does have lovely swimming pool and very attractive grounds, which offset those shortcomings.
The organisation of and time schedules were perfect. The group was kept well informed of the daily arrangenents. The Dordogne was a very enjoyable break .
Hotel rooms a little tired. Restaurant a little walk from hotel okay if not raining. Menu very limited. Not a lot to do on the two free days as no bus service and limited train service a 20 minute walk away. One free day would have been better. Sarlat would have been a better base.
Good tour but limited travel connections on free days.
An idyllic part of France, outstanding travel organization. A cute ‘no frills’ French pension/ hotel. Would recommend this trip 100%
I have been on several Rail Discovery holidays and can't fault them. As a solo traveller it is good to be looked after by your guides. I just wish it wasn't so expensive to travel solo!
Beautiful countryside. Lovely hotel. Warm and welcoming hosts. Great food at restaurant. Not acceptable to walk to the dinner restaurant, especially in torrential rain, and no transport available. It was almost half a mile away! Wonderful excursions. Guide very helpful and put himself out to get takeaways in for several people who wouldn’t walk through heavy rain to restaurant. Nothing to do in village, and wall paintings booked months, if not years ahead. Not a great location.

Helpfull tour guide
Beautiful locations that are unique (but also pricey out an about!). Great hotel base - Simple and clean. Travelling out by train is a fun adventure (but be prepared to be out of breath from walking dragging your luggage). Loved the boat tour, great market in Sarlat and despite the rain the places we visited were exquisite! Thank you!
Great rail tours to the Dordogne was a well organised tour. The excursions were great taking us to some very interesting and beautiful parts. Excellent value for money. I was concerned about staying in an Ibis hotel but this one in Sarlat was excellent
Beautiful stunning area of France. The journey to Sarlat took all day with a lot of hanging about Check the itinerary as we had two days to arrange our own time and visits which some found difficult. Great travelling companions made it enjoyable Overall a good holiday but don’t expect perfection
