AVOID

AVOID! SCAMMERS! Thankfully I've had my £200 refunded by my credit card company that this company unlawfully took from my damage deposit (although GM are contesting this!). Also had to fight for my fuel deposit to be returned!
I checked the car for damage when I took the vehicle, as per the rental agreement. There was no damage other than that recorded on their paperwork. The day after retuning they told me one of the tyres didn't match and that I had swapped it - I had not.
As I have no photo/video evidence of all the tyres showing make and model, that say I cannot prove I did not change the tyre. They of course have no evidence that when I took the vehicle all tyres were matching either.
And to add to this, on previous hires I've been called and asked to pick the car up later than I'd booked because of other collections booked and also to return the car earlier than I'd paid for.
Cowboy company!

Attempt to gaslight me into additional Excess Cover

After waiting for ages to be served, the Green Motion representative attempted to gaslight me into buying additional excess cover at the desk, despite the fact that I had taken out excess cover with Easyjet Car Rental. To try and convince me to take their cover the Green Motion representative told me that the Easyjet excess cover didn't cover windows, tyres and underneath the car. He also told me that when I returned the car they might not have time to inspect it, so I might not get the excess back if they then found damage when the car after I had departed.
I didn't take Green Motion's additional excess cover and when I subsequently reviewed the cover I had bought through Easyjet I found that it was adequate - it was also a lot cheaper! I also made sure that the car was inspected when I returned it.
The Green Motion location at Gatwick is in a rundown yard some distance from the airport. It is poorly lit, making it difficult to inspect the car when you pick it up or drop it off in the dark!
The fuel policy is to bring the car back with the same fuel as when you pick it up, which means that you end up either putting too much fuel in the car or end up paying excessive refuelling charges

Avoid Green Motion if you value your money

Avoid Green Motion! dishonest charges and awful customer service!

I had a terrible experience with Green Motion and would strongly advise others to stay well away.

They charged me over £2,000 to my card for a tiny scratch that would clearly cost nowhere near that amount to repair. There was no fair assessment, no reasonable explanation, and the money was simply taken without any justification.

Customer service was completely unhelpful and dismissive when I tried to challenge the charge. After this happened, I looked into the company further and discovered that many customers report the same behaviour excessive damage claims and aggressive charging practices. Sadly, I didn’t take these warnings seriously until it happened to me.

Many insurance providers do not cover Green Motion, which is a major red flag!

Do not use Green Motion unless you want to risk serious financial trouble!!!

Green motion Edinburgh deposit refusal to refund!

We rented a car at Edinburgh green motion on 22 July and returned it on 2 August. We originally booked through Carjet who passed our booking on. We paid £1505 - same as many other reviewers (over $3000 Australian)
We returned it on time, in good condition and with a full tank of fuel. We unfortunately received a fine for driving a non electric car up to Durham castle (had no idea) £68 with Green Motion adding a further £68 administrations fee.
It is now 11 weeks - 55 business days and NO REFUND!
We have started a dispute with our credit card bank to try to reclaim our funds.
We have tried emails phone calls. ABSOLUTELY useless trying to phone their 0333 888 4000!
We are now writing reviews - which is now obvious many people are experiencing the same problem.
We will go down the path of filing a complaint with the citizens Advice Scotland too.
DEFINITELY DON’T use Green Motion.

Scammed me out of 140 pounds even…

Scammed me out of 140 pounds even though I tried countless times to get into contact with you and green Motion that I had left my credit card back in South Africa by mistake and was trying my best to find a resolution only to be refused to pickup the car and denied a refund multiple times. I called multiple times the day before and morning of. I even emailed multiple times and left a voice mail still nothing.The call centre staff were not helpful at all and the first was just blatantly rude. Not only could I not pickup the car i was essentially left in the lurch and had to rent another vehicle for a higher price and still didn't get the money I had already paid back.

Ruined my entire holiday and I feel scammed and frustrated that I ever trusted easy jet or the car division. Still waiting on a resolution on my complaint. I just want my money back at this point. Green Motion Edinburgh never responded to a single call. voice mail or email. They even lied and told me at the desk not to worry easy jet would refund me automatically as the transaction/pickup could not be completed.

Only to be told that its not easy jet cars problem and that I won't be receiving my money back by the first call consultant. It took me until 10pm to get to my hotel due to all this and completely ruined my holiday and I lost a full day due to the car department and my easy jet flight being so delayed. Shocking experience in every regard. Just want my money back ...

Lack of duty of care not informing…

Lack of duty of care not informing international travellers of Toll Roads with no payment booths and to pay online to avoid Admin fees of £68 each time they inform you they have a fine. I suggested a sign in their wall WARNING..PAY TOLL ROAD FEES ONLINE TO AVOID ADMINISTRATION FEES. I was told this would cause a crazy situation. I was also told I can’t expect the agent to inform me of this online payment, however when I returned my car the agent kindly said to pay any Toll Roads fees online straight away.
I had paid one lot of £68 and when I received the second Admin Fee I requested them to waive the fee due to lack of duty of care. They refused. Is this a hidden agenda not to inform international travellers of Online Payment? I feel scammed. Disappointed with Green Motion.

No refund of excess received from Green…

As of October 18, (rental period ended July 29), still no refund from Green Motion car rental of my £1505 deposit despite a reassurance via email that this case has high priority.

More than 10 weeks and counting.

Update. As of september 26, still no refund. More than 8 weeks and counting!

No refund of excess received from Green motion Edinburgh. Paid with international Visa Credit Card. Payment was accepted immediately and could be seen in my credit card App. But now Green Motion has stopped communication after 30 days Reading reviews of this location on Google maps for the past week indicate clearly that this is ongoing for a large number of customers.
For me it is 48 days and counting with no refund (1505 pounds) in sight.
Avoid this company or risk the grief and anxiety I and so many others have been subject to and possible loss of 1505 pounds

Absolutely terrible experience. I’m giving one star and want to share my honest story without sugarcoating anything.

Recently, I rented a car at Green Motion Heathrow Airport. During the car inspection, I noticed several scratches. I went back to the office and asked the staff to check these scratches and mark them in the record. The staff told me to simply take photos of the scratches, assuring me this was standard practice, and that I could just show the photos on my phone when returning the car, as the date and location would be visible.

To my shock, five days later when returning the car, the staff claimed that one scratch on the rear bumper (a very small one where the luggage is loaded) was “hard to see” due to sunlight reflections. Despite my photos, they charged my card an amount exceeding my rental cost.

The feeling was awful—like being cheated or robbed. The staff’s attitude was completely unacceptable. I strongly advise not renting from Green Motion. Go with reliable, larger car rental services. Low prices at Green Motion are not worth the risk.

I booked a 2-day car rental from Green…

I booked a 2-day car rental from Green Motion at Edinburgh Airport on 31st July, they took a deposit of £1505.00. I returned the car undamaged and with a full tank of petrol on 2nd August and they still haven’t returned the deposit, more than 5 weeks later, shocking !!

Warning

Warning, warning as others have said do not use this company.
Green Motion Leicester the old filling station Street, Nicholas Circus Leicester LE1 4LF.

Firstly I booked the car hire over two months in advance but on the morning that I needed to pick the car up I had a telephone call,at 8.45am saying my car would not be available at 9:00 a.m. in the morning that I would have to wait till about 10.30 am because they hadn't got a car for me,
I said on the phone I'm on my way down now, then guess what upon arrival after speaking to the Manager Scott, he said we do have a car for you sitting on the Four Court, but we just need to give it a clean, so consequently when I inspected the vehicle before driving off because the vehicle was wet all over including the wheels and I was running late to start my journey I never noticed a very slight damage to one of the alloyed wheels and you've guessed it on my return after only hiring it for two days they said that I had caused the damage and that they were going to charge me £230 pounds. It's a scam.
I challenge Scott the manager I said you're not going to repair the alloyed wheel are you, he said no they lease the cars for three years and then they have to repair them when they send them back to the leasing company, so there you have it they have a car for 3 years and they DON'T MAKE ANY REPAIRS, then as soon as the next customer comes in and doesn't notice the damage they're going to charge them ALL £230 pounds each, nice little earner, don't you think.
Don't use this company.

Would give no stars if possible.
Paid £220 to hire car for a few days last week. At no point was it made clear that I had to pay a deposit.
Got to green motion Leicester, was told I needed a credit card to pay deposit. Did not have a credit card with me to do this. They then told me I needed to pay £400 to upgrade to premium package, as I had no credit card and no way to pay the deposit. Obviously I could not pay the £400, so I could not rent the car. They have said they will look in to refunding me the £220. Not heard anything back yet and it's been almost a week. Do not recommend as they seem to hide extra costs.

**HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE PLEASE READ** I would like to make everyone aware of the horrific experience myself and my wife had this morning at Green Motion Servicing - Edinburgh Airport. Last night we booked a hire vehicle which was a basic Fiat 500 no-frills and we opted to pay a premium for additional insurance. After collecting our bags a short walk and a five minute shuttle bus we arrived at Green Motion. The gentleman requested my booking confirmation number, took my Visa debit card, my driving license and requested my national insurance number.

He then gave me the options of which insurance package to choose from? I reminded him that I have prepaid and everything is booked. He then asked me for a credit card?! I explained to him I only have my debit cards. He said because of this the only option for me to proceed was if I paid an additional £800 which was diabolical.

After escalating this to a manager, he explained to me that when I booked the car, I should have opened up the small print scrolled down about three pages and opened up the payment section which then explained to you that you have to have a credit card to be able to use their service. NONE of this was mentioned when they took my money very quickly last night!

We then stepped out the queue and I spent 15 minutes on the phone to Virgin. They swiftly helped me download the app which provided my full credit card details.

I then went back in and queued again, to only be told they now cannot use my credit card and will need to see the physical card back in London.

The two gentleman that served me were as useful as a chocolate teapot and I’m surprised they are even working for a business that should lean heavily on customer service. When I asked for the manager’s Business card, he said he didn’t have one… Strange that I’m not surprised!

He then wrote down on a piece of paper CHARLESTON… I asked him if that was his First name or his last name which he replied that he doesn’t need to give me his first name. You clearly have said that a few times when people have complained!!

They were unable to refund me my money and left me stranded at the airport.

We went back into the terminal where we met with a representative of AVIS. Within 10 minutes, the whole process was complete and I had the keys to my hire vehicle and guess what? No credit card required!

Today’s experience with Green Motion was both unnecessarily stressful and completely and outrightly unprofessional. Thanks to Green Motion we are £200 down and late to my friend’s Wedding. Train your staff to have at least some empathy and not just be a typical conveyor belt misery brand.

Avoid at all costs

In my experience, this car rental company’s practices felt highly questionable. While the advertised rental prices seemed cheap at first, when collecting the car I was told I had to either purchase additional insurance costing over £450 or leave a £2,500 deposit on my credit card — there was no option to decline.

Every customer ahead of me spent over 30 minutes in the office, and each one filmed their car thoroughly before leaving. When it was my turn, I quickly understood why.

The office is located far from other rental companies and public transport, which leaves you feeling that you have little choice but to proceed once you’re there. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend avoiding this company.

Our experience with Greenmotion…

Our experience with Greenmotion Edinburgh was very positive. Nice welcome, efficient check-inn, no hard sell for additional insurance, great nearly new car, return quick and easy, no damage report made on the spot. Although stated in their terms, I consider over 3 weeks to get reimbursed for the caution (1505 pounds) too long, but we received it last week!

It’s a SCAM - DON’T touch this company!!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Green Motion Newcastle (airport area) make money from Charging Customers Exuberant Repair fees for Pre-Existing Damage.

On pick up the staff are very relaxed about any pre-existing damage to the vehicle - but on return they will hold you liable for every slight blemish, regardless of if it happened before your rental.

They appear to be the cheapest but after returning the vehicle they will find scratches and charge you excessive amounts for the “repair”!

In my case, they looked everywhere and only found a slight scuff on the rear bumper (not visible to the naked eye). Unfortunately for them, after rubbing it with a cloth it didn’t pass the minimum size threshold. So, they started looking under the car, yes that’s right under the vehicle! They eventually found a 1 inch chip in the paint under the plastic bumper which would cost £334 to repair. Outrageous doesn’t begin to explain this behaviour. Despite my efforts to request digital proof of the bumper’s condition prior they pressed ahead with the extortionate charge!

Do not use this company, it’s a scam!
