top-notch

My wife and I recently completed the NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation course. Our instructor, Howard, was phenomenal. He is highly experienced, knowledgeable, and passionate about firearms and related topics with an important emphasis on safety and responsibility. We began the course with basically no prior experience with firearms but by the end of the course were much more knowledgeable and comfortable. It is clear Howard takes pride in his instruction and even contacted us prior to the course to inquire about our level of experience and specific topics we were interested in and also followed up after the course was completed. I would recommend Howard to anyone looking for similar instruction or courses.

Fantastic Class

I highly recommend the Refuse to Be a Victim course and the Pistol Orientation. Chip is a great teacher that definitely has a passion for what he does. He's personable and breaks everything down in a simple fashion that is really easy to understand. I never thought I would understand firearms enough to disassemble one. I'm so glad that I didn't just get an online certificate. The time and money spent on the class was well worth it and exceeded my expectations.

Well Taught!

The personal videos provided from the live range course will really help me hone in on improving my skills. The video shows what you need to work on and what you are doing well. For example, my trigger control needs improvement. While at the range, I noticed that my nerves got the best of me at times as firearms can be a bit intimidating. Its not like shooting a laser gun. :) The laser gun attached to the video screen was a great in-classroom teaching instruction before going out to the range as it clearly depicts what needs to be improved. I also liked the learning and showing of the different types of firearms and finding out what is suitable for you (fit, function, and finances)- I didn't find many (if not any) classes that offer that upon my research. I plan on taking more classes (one-on-one) in the near future. It doesn't just stop here with firearm safety training, you must perfect your skills and become more confident using a firearm. My goal in taking the firearm safety class was for added protection and comfort in my own home and to allow me to gain a residential concealed firearm.

BTW: I actually like the home classroom setting better than a formal classroom at a facility--- that was a good idea! It creates a more comfortable vibe and atmosphere.

NRA Basic Pistol Course (May 19, 2015)

Highly highly recommended. I took the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course with Howard. I could tell in the first few minutes of the class this guy knows his stuff and he's got a passion for teaching. He's not intimidating at all, nice guy actually. No question too basic. He just wants to share as much knowledge as possible and for you to enjoy firearms as he does. The class portion is at his house, and it's totally safe. He's got a nice classroom setup with a large screen TV for the powerpoint presentation and videos. After the class portion, we all drove to a nearby shooting range.

What I liked:
1) Only two of us in the class (he doesn't take more than 4).
2) He had a bunch of real pistols in class. You get to handle them, load them, dry fire them, and even choose which one you'd like to try in the range. No live ammo in class.
3) The gun range part can get kinda scary. But he's right behind you when you shoot, encouraging you.
4) At the gun range, even after the official NRA course has ended, he had us doing a few more drills where he makes the paper target approach you and you gotta fire as many rounds as you comfortably can.
