You only need to pay maintenance fee less than $10/year, and if you use the calls and text you pay the amount corresponding to it. Receiving text/call is free.

The SIM card could be delivered to anywhere in the world which was very convenient for me since my flight would arrive before the collection counter opens at the Japan airport. Being able to only pay for the months that you use is excellent too. The only drawback is that the data rates are quite expensive compared to data only SIM cards, but I needed a Japanese phone number for work so this was just what I needed.

I could enjoy short life in the US with HanaCell's service. I used 2nd cheapest service and it is enough to use for daily life.
I could receive SIM card via mail easily and contact to support center shortly.

Even though their yearly subscription fee is low, their activation fee is high. Additionally, both the cost of data and calls are also high. For my 10-day trip in Japan, I ended up spending around $100. I later learned there are many other similar services available, so I’ll do more through research next time.

I found it easy and convenient and I recommend it for anybody traveling to Japan.

After I applied for the Hanacell SIM card, I entered Japan twice in the past 5 weeks or so. The 1st time was early September while my hanacell card got available right away at the Narita airport after I switched my cellphone on. The 2nd time was yesterday after I arrived at the Haneda airport on the way to the hotel. This SIM card has brought and is bringing many conveniences to me each time in Tokyo, Japan. Its signal is also always stable wherever I was. I will absolutely keep using it in future. Many thanks.

They have refunded the last month of the base charge due to “low usage” of the month. Hanacell is the legit company who probably cares of customer service but bitter-aftertaste for me personally after the charge of nearly $300 of two lines (SIM cards purchase charge, monthly charge and calling/text charges). I also didn’t like they withdrew money without the invoice and the details of specific mins usage of calling or texting in advance. It was very useful to have a phone number while traveling in Japan. To stay with this company, I had to be very careful for the way to make a phone call to avoid high charge on calling or texting. For a heavy user like me, the data plan is like a joke. It was expensive learning experience for me.

This is review for the Japan SIM with J phone number

-when they said “unlimited data, “ their data speed is less than garbage speed after 3gb. (Seriously, you cannot do anything with 3gb!)
-when they said “no cost on the unused month,” they still charge $29 you if your phone ever use little data (2mb) on the first day of the month. Although I took off my sim on aug1, they still charge me $29 for something although I had a pocket wifi with me at the point for useless data of HANACELL.
-when they say, “sorry for inconvenience but please understand” they don’t really care about it.
-last of all, they will withdraw money from your CC without any notification.

If you decided to use, read their q and a carefully and never go over the month. But for the data speed, I would rather go with a pocket wifi, to be honest. The most pocket wifi companies can go by days of usage and they are pretty clear and not vague.

Dear Hanacell customer support, please do not leave any comment on me because you don’t really care. I already sent the complaint. If you are not sorry, don’t say sorry.

Easy to activate and maintain a number to use while you’re in Japan and if you would like to keep the number for future use is only $8 every year very convenient for foreigners.

Hana is a SCAM. The SIM I picked at Haneda Airport did not work at all. I called Hana's Emergency number, but the number they listed was registered to a business which had no business with Hana.

Applied few days before arriving Japan. Received the SIM card at the airport and activated smoothly. Successfully started the service plan.

Easy registration online and pickup at airport the next day. Activation and account management on the website is convenient.

I have been using hancell for many years and there was never a problem. Quite the opposite, they have always been very helpful.
But in April, for the first time $59 have been withdran from my Visa card. And now exactly two months later, again the same amount was withdrawn.
I am using the strictly "calls only" plan, and the phone has been permanently checked that NO DATA tranfer is possible.
NO ONE outside my family knows this number !!!
Xiaomai has confirmed that NO data can be transferred if it is set to"No Mobile Data allowed"

When Inquiring, hancell tells me they have no record of the data transfer, but their computer told them so.

So they simply withdraw over $100 without having anything that shows why, and what for.

Think twice if you do not want this happening to you!

ANSWER TO HANACELLS FAKE REPLY:

There most certainly is a "call only" simcard, which is cheap and practical AND WHICH I HAVE BEEN USING FOR ABOUT SIX OR EIGHT YEARS !!!!!
It has worked very well until for some reason not under your control, hanacell informs you that data has supposedly been downloaded ONCE(!!!) with your simcard, which will cost you $59.
When asking what for, hanacell is totally unable to give you any information, what when from where or who. They simply tell you data has been downloaded and with a call-only simcard, that this will cost an extra $59....
After the first instance this happened, I started checking my "Mobile data download " setting several times each week, to see if it is still set to NOT ALLOWED. And it ALWAYS was, and it is.

hanacell can and will not give you any infomation about the supposed download, they simply withdraw the $59 and only tell you a few weeks later about it....

In my case this has now been done twice within two months !

And do not tell me you are sorry abouthe inconvenience. $120 IS NOT AN INCONVENIENCE !!!
