Beware!

I researched all the pet insurance companies when we adopted a cat. We wound up choosing Hartville for several reasons, chef among them being the unlimited coverage. For years we paid our premiums as per our agreement for a complete coverage policy. Now that our cat is ill though, we find that our coverage is capped at the low end, at $5000. While they tell you that their coverage is from $5000 to unlimited, there was no option for us to actually get the unlimited coverage. Therefore our Hartville policy, for which we've been paying for years, is rendered useless. Moreover, and at this point, we can't get any coverage anywhere because our cat's illness is now considered pre-existing. What Hartville has done is vile. One would be hard pressed to find a more unethical pet insurer.

Three months to deny my claim, LOL

It took Hartville 3 months to deny our claim, LMFAO. Weeks on “waiting for more info from vet” only to deny our claim all the while no problem on withdrawing $75 from our account on the dot every month. Get lost Hartville. There are better pet insurance companies out there, DO your due diligence and shop around! We made our mistake as first time pet owners, don’t follow our footsteps!

STAY AWAY not worth the hassle and would waste your money

I agree with other reviewers, save your money and go elsewhere. I had submitted few claims after in initial 15 days period was over, hartville took 6 weeks to process and deny my claims with bogus statements and clearly misinterpreting Vets remarks for their benefit and declining my claims. Not worth the hassle STAY AWAY!!!

Save your money and go elsewhere

Save your money and go elsewhere. Just go ahead and try to submit a claim. They will sit on it forever, then ask for more information (that you've already given them). then you try to call them, but there is always a very long wait time so they say they'll call you back, but alas, they don't. We wasted money paying premiums, save yours and go elsewhere.

Company's proclivity is to find reasons to deny claims

There are two basic complaints with Hartville Pet Insurance (I think formerly ASPCA), and run by United States Fire Insurance Company. The primary one is that while you renew your policy from year to year, and pour a ton of money into the company, claims are routinely denied as "pre-existing" if they originally occur in the previous policy year - even though it's the same company that is ensuring you from year to year. So, if your pet is treated for a wound in April, and your policy renews in May, and you need more treatment your claim will be denied in May as pre-existing. Secondly, if you live in a more expensive part of the U.S., eg California or New York or urban center, the company only pays average U.S. costs, so the purported 80% payment really becomes 40% of 50% - AFTER the annual deductible. In my case, I pay $109 a month, and calculating annual costs, it's not worth it. The company's proclivity is to find reasons to deny claims, as it did in my case because of an ulcer deemed "pre-existing" - when they didn't bother to even check the paperwork that it was a DIFFERENT ulcer in a different spot.

It takes forever to get your refund

It takes forever to get your refund. I’ve had a claim in since March and they still have it on hold do to more information. I had to call on my work phone to them and call my vet on my cell phone because they kept saying my vet didn’t fax over stuff. Well I had both on the phone and I didn’t get off until they receive it and I still don’t have a refund after 4 months.
There is always a problem when they want more information. It’s the same thing every time you put in a claim.
I told my insurance Brooker who reference them to me and told him “I would never reference them again”
I’m actually trying to get out of my contact but it would cost me, so I don’t even put in a claim anymore

I’m giving a 4 out of 5 only because…

I’m giving a 4 out of 5 only because the amount paid back to me I have still not received; however, the claim I sent and the update in notes on the website said I did have a reimbursement. I think everyone should consider pet insurance for their addition to their family! I love my furbaby!

FARTVILLE insurance! save ur money

This company is a hard to deal with. Waited multiple days just to get an estimate only to be denied for my dogs teeth cleaning. My vet records do not state anywhere about my dog having a “dental diasese” prior to my policy starting. I don’t know how a mention about tartar is a pre-existing condition. Customer service is unhelpful and condescending. Why do I pay for “complete coverage” & still have to purchase “preventative” Their member center doesn’t give you exactly what’s covered and not. They are good at withdrawing money from your account without sending correspondence or notifications?! Except annually. If you’re taking money out quarterly I would hope to be notified! Save your money. Plus all these good reviews have been “invited” can’t wait til my policy ends.

Piece of mind

We purchased the insurance after adopting our 4 month old ragdoll kitten in January. Coronavirus hit and things changed...then our (perfect) kitten developed an open polmyra (I’m positive I got the wrong) and needed emergency surgery to save her life.

Emergency surgery is NOT inexpensive...at all. I hate to think about the choices that we may have had to make if we didn’t know we had the insurance.

The claim process was amazingly simple and we got a reply in a week.

This is how a business should operate and we will absolutely keep our coverage and definitely add for any more pets in the future.

THANK YOU!!!
