I couldn’t fault the hospital I had my surgery at. The staff there and the care was amazing.
I have found all but one of Healthier Weight’s staff friendly every time I have spoken to them.
I’ve had a few problems after my operation and to be honest at times felt horrendous. Healthier Weight did check in with during this time however it felt limited with what they could do or offer and I was often left to seek medical attention through 111 or my GP. This might be due to the distance between them and myself.
My biggest disappointment is my surgeon Mr Singhal. Pre op very friendly and chatty. Post op it felt like a conveyor belt. I could hear him saying the same thing to each patient before he came into my room to speak to me. One morning he came into my hospital room. Spoke two sentences and then walked out again. That was it. Didn’t ask me how I was, or how my night had been. This really upset me as I already felt rubbish.
Even with my problems post op he has never once reached out to me to check on me and I also don’t have a follow up with which I find unusual.
Healthier Weight staff also reached out to him when I was having problems.
He may be an excellent surgeon but he needs to improve on his bedside manner, people skills and communication.

Really friendly and informative from initial enquiry through to consultation. Didn’t feel any pressure to book after this. I’m now almost 4 weeks post op and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience during my time at Burcot Hall. I have had phone calls with the nurses since surgery and they have been very supportive. Would highly recommend!

I had gastric sleeve surgery with Healthier Weight in January 2023 and have since gone on to lose 8 stone (110% of my excess BMI)

You might be reading this whilst doing your research on weight loss surgery, trying to get an idea of which company to go with, or if the price of staying in the UK is really worth it.

Getting this surgery with Healthier Weight was the quite simply the best decision of my life. Not only have I completely changed physically and mentally, but the care from the Healthier Weight team has been second to none. From my initial enquiry about weight loss surgery with Healthier Weight the team have been warm, empathetic, incredibly knowledgable and really understand the journey their patients have been on to arrive at the decision of having weight loss surgery.

Prior to surgery the team called to check in and see how I was, post surgery a nurse called me over the 3 days after I was discharged to check how I was and answer my numerous questions, I’ve had a call with a dietician, and calls at 3, 6, 12 and 18 months to get a progress update. They also provide you with a number you can call to speak to one of the team if you have any questions outside of your check-ins. Each member of the team I’ve spoken to throughout this journey has been a true professional and made me feel so supported and cared for.

Don’t get me wrong, weight loss surgery is not easy. It’s a huge learning curve and a complete lifestyle change, but knowing I could call Healthier Weight at any time if I had a question or needed guidance was invaluable.

Sending such a heartfelt thankyou to the Healthier Weight team for helping me change my life and doing so with such genuine kindness, support, care and empathy at every single step. I really can’t recommend them enough.

Healthier weight, have been at the nurses Dr and receptionist have been very helpful.

The aftercare is shocking. I would’ve received better if I went abroad.
No check ins, no explanation of how I should eat after major surgery, luckily for me I joined an open Facebook page who provided support so I managed to get through.
Tried to complain, ironically healthier weight so everything electronically until it comes to complaints (has to be printed and posted) abit of a delay tactic if you ask me.
I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

The facilities were very clean and all the staff were very helpful and supportive .

I needed surgery urgently: consultation, pre-op and surgery were done within a week of my initial request.
All staff involved, from administrative to nursing and the theatre team, were kind and caring.
A week on from surgery (gallbladder removal): I feel healthier than I have for months, can already move around easily and energy levels improve daily.

the hospital staff were friendly and reliable. hospital care was brilliant. the only criticism i have is i left being told healthier weight would contact me and explain everything for after my dismissal. it would be nice to leave the hospital with the liquid food to get me started on my recovery. hospital didnt tell much about the recovery foods i must take. but i hadnt heard from healthier weight so i wasnt sure what i needed to have . ie proteins, calories, vitamins etc. maybe healthier weight can assist by offering a starter pack or something to help . after all the op does cost a lot of money for the care. i even had to leave go to a chemist in my condition and buy dissolvable paracetamol as i was not issued any and the hospital doesn't sell it. pre care perfect, op care perfect , after care could be improved.

Was told I was going into surgery in an hour, 4 hours later I was still sitting in a small room alone with no update as to what was going on. Eventually got took to surgery, afterwards I was supposed to have a private room but instead was put into a room with 3 other patients all of whom were the opposite sex. Asked for medication as the gas pain was awful to which the nurse told me I was exaggerating, trust me the gas pain is real! Got out of surgery at 9pm at night and was told I had to be out the hospital for 8am the next day as the nurses finished shift and no one would be there.

I did complain to healthier weight were I was told to contact the 3rd party hospital (St Ellen’s Livingston) which I refused to do as I was a client of healthier weight, after some back and forth they offered me £250.00 refund but as a whole the experience was very poor when forking out over £10k for a Gastric Sleeve. Aftercare has been minimal, if I could go back I’d have saved myself thousands and went abroad as their pre and post operative care seems a lot more thorough.

Healthier weight staff were and are amazing at keeping in touch and explaining everything. Wasn’t so impressed with St Ellen’s hospital in Livingston. The day of my op I was taken to an office to be admitted, after being admitted by the nurse, spoken to by the surgeon and anaesthetist I was then left sitting in the office for an hour by myself before my surgery. I was advised to change into my hospital gown and then walked through reception past visitors and patients waiting to be admitted in my gown and white stockings, I felt embarrassed and humiliated. I had my overnight bag with me and was told just to leave it on the floor outside the operating theatre as they didn’t know where I was going after my surgery. The morning after surgery I asked if there was a room I could get washed in and I was told no I had to just use the toilet with the small hand wash sink that myself and the 3 other patients had been using throughout the night. I was brought my discharge meds by the nurse at 8am and advised I could leave when my husband arrived to pick me up, the surgeon didn’t even come round to speak to patients after surgery or before discharge so I had no idea if everything went well or not. I saved for a long time to go private but this experience has made me so thankful for our NHS as going private is not all it’s cracked up to be

Healthier Weight have been very supportive through my bariatric journey. Aftercare has been good and staff are extremely supportive and friendly. The only thing I would suggest, and it is a small thing, is that there is a bit more post op general information given out that you can refer to rather than picking up phone.

I am so pleased that I chose to have a gastric sleeve with Healthier Weight! From the minute I first made contact they have been nothing but honest, supportive, informative and so helpful. The whole process from enquiring, to booking, to the operation and finally to the aftercare has been so smooth and I cannot yet find any fault with Healthier Weight. The support I have received is amazing and I would totally recommend them to anyone wishing to have weight loss surgery.
