I wish I could give a zero star
I wish I could give a zero star. I prepaid for my rental car in the USA before my trip. picking up my car at Dublin airport became the worst nightmare! I had ensured I rented from a site that assured me picking up the car inside the airport terminal and that was even on my reservation. When I got to the airport Hertz counter I was met by this grey haired person. I wish I had his name. He shooed me away immediately by telling me I was not a VIP, telling me I had to travel by shuttle to get the car off the airport. I advised him I had medical issues that was the reason I needed to pick up the car at the airport. I was exhausted after taking a flight from San Francisco. He was incredibly unsympathetic and nasty. I ended up going to the shuttle area , waited in the rain until the shuttle bus arrived. Fortunately I got the nicest driver who helped with my bag, even to the counter. I was immediately conned into Super insurance, even though I had a letter from credit card company, outlining in detail what was covered. It turns out much more than the worth of the car. I got a car that was not road worthy, filthy dirty that had to be replaced the very next day. There was no mention of roadside charge until my bill at the end of the rental. There was also charges from M50; I wasn’t even driving, location fees, and then to top it off currency exchange which benefited them to the tune of $25. I never consented to any of these charges. I would caution anyone who plans on a trip to Ireland to steer way from Hertz Ireland. They are nothing short of thugs. I was able with the help of my credit card company to recover all these slapped on charges. It was truly upsetting and disappointing to experience such bad customer service and dishonesty. They should not be allowed to operate this way. Stay away!

If only I could give negative stars
If only I could give negative stars. I'm not surprised to see so many negative reviews about this location.
Let me first start off by saying I've traveled the world and have rented from just about every company out there. In fact, we have rented from Dublin several times over the last few years. Renting from this outlet in Dublin has absolutely ruined me of renting from Hertz ever again. Hertz felt more like it should be called "Hurts" as in it hurts your wallet. The fees that they tack on under the cloak of "insurance coverage" is outlandish. In fact, my rental charges were over 3 times what I was quoted online. Fellow travelers make sure you read the fine print of the agreement and ask what your final bill will be.
Expect to be given a vague understanding of the charges and getting a receipt from the checkout dude is even more difficult. We also had the joy of two desk agents laughing and being condescending towards my wife and me while checking in. Kudos to the management team at this location with fostering such wonderful customer experiences for weary travelers. My only hope is they get the treatment reciprocated one day.
Another tip to save you money is to get a letter from your credit card in advance that will give you rental damage coverage. If you don't have this from the credit card company this location will not help you. Good luck fellow travelers and remember to read the fine print!
Never again
This will be my first and last time
ever trying to rent with Hertz and will not be recommending to anyone else. We booked and paid for the rental on their website, read through their T&Cs. Then at pickup at the airport, we are told that they have to put a €5000 hold on our debit card (or credit card, which we thankfully did not have). I would expect that is something they would have been very upfront about and flag very clearly when you pay for the booking rather than the inconvenience of finding out that information at pickup. The guy at the desk became super defensive when we said we read through everything and did not come across this information. We chose to cancel, and were charged a cancellation fee which was annoying, and looks like we dodged a bullet judging by the ridiculously large number of 1 star reviews here.

on 4th November over 1000 euro was taken from my card with no explanation as to why. 8 days later and still no one has come back to me to give me the reason for this.
Awful customer service! Stay away from Hertz Dublin!
I booked online and paid for full insurance, or so I thought. I called to check and also request a change in time for drop-off. I was told I had adequate insurance and could drop off at a later time for a small fee. On arriving in Dublin, we found all the car hires were far away, and buses took you to them. All the other buses ran frequently, but not Hertz. We waited 35 minutes for a bus! On arriving at Hertz, they tried to sell an upgrade for twice the price. We declined the upgrade, and the counter person became very threatening and nasty about the insurance. We were also told the small fee for 3 hours later would be another day at 100 euros. In calling again, no one was helpful. The car was covered in dents and scratches and did not have a full tank. Hertz's reply is that we booked with a third party. This does not respond to the truly awful customer service experience.

Disgusting customer service
Disgusting customer service. On arrival I was offered the choice of a 2,200 Euro hold on my card or a 26 Euro per day extra insurance which would cover me for everything, no excess.
On my final day, I was walking on a beach before heading back to the airport and lost my car hire key. Everyone I spoke to on the phone was horrendously rude. I was told I was on my own, they wouldn't help me, I was stranded on a beach in the middle of nowhere, alone, and they refused to offer me any help to get me to the airport. When I eventually got there, at great expense, I was told by the Hertz representative on the desk at Dublin airport that no one cares. Multiple times.
I've now been charged on my card with no email or explanation as to what it's for, and am quite frankly horrified by the lack of customer service from this company. Would give zero stars if I could. Disgusting.

Was refused service at the desk because the clerk didn’t accept my card even after booking(and paying for) the car four months in advance and having the card used for the booking on site. Booking was then cancelled and now refund is being refused even though the paid service was not provided.

Not impressed
Avoid-they advertise as cheap but you will pay the price afterwards. They will knit pick on everything, a little tiny scuff has costed €250 yet I paid the extra insurance after being told it would cover everything, obviously it hasn’t. I gave the benefit of doubt after hiring with them last year but the same thing has happened again, not happy and will not be using again.

hertz shannon fraudelent damage claim - resolved
upon vehicle return received a bill for 1249.06 euros for a claimed passenger side superificial 15cm scratch, which had been shown to be already there upon receiving vehicle, proof of which was submitted as an image through the vehicle pre-inspection mail, received after leaving hertz parking lot @ shannon airport and to which no acknowledgement of receipt is forthcoming - be very cautious if you intend use their services
update 241024: as a sign of goodwill, hertz ie will not be pursuing their case
NEVER AGAIN !!
Spoke to hertz dublin airport as I wanted to check their closing time, I was flying on Tues from spain & my flight wasn't due in until 12.30 .I was going to a funeral in Cork on weds. The website says the desk is open until 1am. The young woman I spoke to ( surely a candidate for employee of the year?) Told me that the desk would be closed at midnight. When I queried this she said they would stay open for people who had made a booking if their flight was delayed. I said I wanted to make a booking but she told me it was only applicable to people who had made their bookings weeks ago ....this is an astonishing company policy.apparently the employees just make it up as they go along.a phone call to customer services got me a booking & I was told that the desk was open till 1 am and that the desk would remain open if my flight was delayed. & of course my flight was delayed & the desk was shut when I got into dublin....does anyone from hertz read these reviews?? Is this really the level of service your company aspires to. ? NEVER AGAIN !!

Renting with Hertz was the worst.
Renting with Hertz was the worst decision we made in planning to go to Ireland and the worst car rental experience I have ever had. It seemed like a good price until you are told Hertz will not recognize any third party insurance policies and unless you can place a 5,000EUR hold on a credit card they gouge you by charging you more than double the rental fee to sell you their own insurance. Once you’ve made your plans (which involve driving a car to the next location), and unless you planned for this credit card hold, you have little choice but to cough up hundreds of extra dollars. When I expressed my frustration with this policy which had never been told to me even though Hertz had been given my email address by Expedia, the service people at Hertz simply blamed Expedia for selling me third party insurance and not notifying me of the policies. To add insult to injury they sent us off in a car with a tire pressure warning that ended up with a flat an hour away, which derailed our day when we had to wait for service for two hours. Zero apologies from anyone at Hertz. Beware before you book.

Absolutely Horrendous Car Rental…
Absolutely Horrendous Car Rental Experience - Avoid at All Costs!
I had the absolute *worst* experience with this car hire company at Dublin Airport, and I would urge everyone to steer clear if you're looking for even a shred of decent customer service or quality vehicles.
I paid €740 for less than 10 days, thinking I would receive a reliable car with the “premier insurance” I was promised. What I got instead was a complete disaster:
1. First Car: I was handed a VW Golf reeking of cigarette smoke and missing a spare tire, despite being assured there was one. This is an absolute safety hazard! When I contacted support, I was told to return the car – wasting more than an hour of my time.
2. Second Car: The second car they gave me was in appalling condition—it was dirty inside and out, with extensive damage all over. I’ve attached photos, and trust me, the video I recorded captures just how bad it was from every angle. How can any respectable company think it’s acceptable to rent out a car in such a state?
3. Shocking Customer Service: When I returned to complain, I was treated with nothing but rudeness and dismissiveness. The representative had the audacity to tell me that this was the “best they could offer,” and even suggested that if I had booked through Hertz, the experience would have been different! Are you kidding me? That’s not how you treat a paying customer.
4. Manager’s Response: When I finally spoke to the manager, it was as if I was speaking to a robot, completely lacking any empathy or professionalism. I was told that as long as the car worked mechanically, the damage didn’t matter. Excuse me, but for €740, I expect more than just a working engine—I expect a clean, undamaged vehicle, which is exactly what a premier insurance package should guarantee!
I’ve had issues with this company before, and I foolishly gave them another chance, only to be utterly disappointed again. If you're looking for a company that values its customers, **this is NOT it. The manager’s solution? A shrug and a half-hearted, “The refund will take some time.” No apology, no concern, just a complete disregard for my inconvenience.
This company is a total **scam**. Renting from them not only cost me time and money but also left me fuming with frustration. I’m done with them, and I’ll be sharing my experience far and wide to make sure no one else has to go through the same.
**Avoid this company at all costs!**
Absolute Gangsters be warned!!!
EXCESS INSURANCE SCAMMERS
I was scammed in Menorca previously and was subsequently scammed at Kerry Airport by a scumbag there too. I already had paid for excess insurance through Booking.com but when it came to putting a £2000 excess deposit on my credit card, amazingly my card was declined and I had to take out their policy too. I wrote twice to customer services and was totally ignored. The journalist I contacted advised that this was normal - when confronted, scammers "poo themselves and run for the hills like cowards". Pure thieves.
As you can see from the garbage below - they've completely ignored the content of my complaint as they did with my two emails I sent them.

Scammed in Cork !!!
Rented a car from Cork for a week. Pick up and service at the desk was excellent but my horror began after drop off! Because of 6am flight, keys were left in drop off box and no handover to am actual person was done. Car was left in pristine condition, had even taken it for a wash ! Imagine my surprise when I got a 'damages' report complete with pictures taken from some place I did not even recognise !
I'm soo disappointed in you Hertz because I never in my wildest dreams thought you could stoop soo low! But having seen the number of of 1* reviews on here, I'm now not surprised.
Chaotic, hopeless and don’t care
My sympathies go out to anyone who had the misfortune to rent a car through Hertz / Dollar at Dublin Airport on Saturday 14th September. I was one of those unfortunate people. After being very cheerfully told by the rep at the desk in the airport that I just needed to hop on the shuttle bus, go to the depot and all would be sorted. I waited for 40 minutes for a bus to turn up. That in itself is pretty awful particularly because nobody from Hertz made any effort to tell us what the problem was. But that was as nothing compared to the complete chaos when we arrived at the depot. There were people everywhere, and the queue for the desk was at least 2 hours long. After that it seemed that there was a shortage of cars available and other customers I spoke to had been waiting for 45 minutes for their car to appear. I had a commitment to be somewhere and just couldn’t afford to wait that long. So I gave up and got a taxi to where I was going. Any attempts to contact Hertz have failed. I am appalled by the lack of service on all counts and will NEVER consider using them again
Price I paid was 50% more ex in pensive than quoted online, I also had to leave a fairly hefty deposit and the van I got was smaller than what they advertised
Price I paid was 50% more expensive than the price I paid, van was a lot smaller than what I was led to believe I booked and had to leave a large deposit that I want told about in advance.
I will not be using hertz again and would recommend anyone to shop around and read the fine print

'Bait and Switch' at its most blatant
Friendly service, car was clean and reliable, but the business practices of Hertz were dubious leaving me feeling a little cheated.
Once the various insurances were added the daily rate was approximately double the headline figure. This is classic U.S. marketing/profiteering and left a grimace on our faces. What was worse was showing an image of a rather nice Ford Focus on the website when the booking was made and then putting us in the 'or similar' Dacia Sandero. The Sandero did the job, but not with the interior space, passenger comfort, low noise and driver appeal of a Focus. To put these two in the same bracket is akin to saying a sausage is a reasonable substitute for a steak. The Sandero is okay but NOT similar to a Focus unless you regard both as simply 'cars'. We will come back next year but won't use Hertz. For clarity I should add I was one of a party of four, the sole driver, but not the principal renter.
Returned the car with full tank but got…
Returned the car with full tank but got charged 59 euro for refuelling!!
Also they didn't trust that i had insurrence om my mastercard platinum, which is common knowledge, and therefore charged me 44 euro for basic insurrence!
Last time i rent a car at Hertz in Ireland.
Frauds!
I have contacted them, but don't expect to be refunded, because they cheated me on purpose...

Undue Charges and Conflicting Information
Our experience with Hertz has been awful. We have received conflicting information at every encounter and additional charges including:
1. Whether or not you are to bring the car back with fuel full or empty; in which we were told unprompted a. at pickup that our best outcome was to bring the car back empty, b. at drop off that it should be full or we would be doubly charged.
2. Whether if we were able to purchase a car before the end of the rental period that we could return the rental car early and receive previous funds back; though we were told upon return that this was not the case. We returned the vehicle 9 days early and provided no refund for returning the car early.
3. We were charged €1,000+ in extra insurance charges after already having paid for full insurance at the pickup desk and customer service refused any refund.
