Abusive company.

Abusive company.
We go to the counter, and we specifically asked for full insurance, the highest they have, we are informed that it covers everything, not to worry about anything because it’s covered.
Then we see the car, stained, coffe all over the place, old system that doesn’t even has GPS integrated or lets the phone connect and “minor” issue on the front wheel.
First bump, flat tire and they said that they need to send the car tow, they could have sent someone and just inflate the tire.
We retuned the car, first they give us a new one, when the rental was finished, and informed us that we will be charged one more day, we never asked for another car. Then they say they will charge 2,2 per liter for the gas, we had to go with the flat tire to the gas station to avoid this.
Then we get a final bill of 275 euros, only 75 is from the rental, because they state that the FULL insurance does not cover the road assistance, find in the photos their website, it clearly says it does.
Shame on big companies that just can’t find more annoying ways of taking your money.
We took Hertz because is supposed to be better, at least is more expensive, never again in Cork.

3500 surprise Euro Deposit!!!

We booked a car online from Denmark . We needed a car from Dublin airport to drive around for a week. We got the final price and booked. When we got to Dublin to pick up the car. If you didnt get the full insurance they would charge you 200 euro on top of the original price. If we wanted to get what we ordered online then they wanted a deposit for 3500 euro. DO NOT USE HERTZ / DOLLAR

Unroadworthy, still waiting for a response

Disgusting. This is our second review hoping to get some kind of action from Hertz/dollar.

A few weeks ago we rented a car from dollar (part of Hertz) for a duration of 5 days. I had read carefully all the information before collecting the vehicle and was well aware of the deposit and cost of hire, however upon collection was charged another £30 as I was driving into NI (online it says there would be no extra charge for this.)

Car on collection was fine and condition was decent. 2 days into hiring we had a tyre pressure alert on the dash. We stopped and topped them up noticing one tyre was significantly below the 32PSI recommended (25PSI). Next morning same alert popped up and on stopping noticed one tyre was flat this time. We called the emergency number and were told we had to replace this out of pocket and couldn't guarantee we would get this back. We replaced the tyre locally and were told by 2 mechanics that the two front tyres were completely unroadworthy and quote "no one should be hiring out cars with tyres in this condition".

Extremely pissed off and now an extra £60 out of pocket we thought it was over. However on the way back to the airport the next day the alert came on again. Afraid we would miss our flight and with no obvious flat we carried on and gave it back with the alert still on the dash. (We are assuming this has simply been turned off and given to another unsuspecting customer, like we clearly were.)

Absolutely disgusting, negligent behaviour from this company. Since writing this I've seen numerous other reviews stating similar tyre issues with no help or serious reply from Herts/dollar. I won't stop until we get this fixed, we had children in the car over that weekend in typical Irish weather and are extremely lucky to have had no accidents on unroadworthy, MOT failing tyres.

They will not tell you clearly about…

They will not tell you clearly about charges. They take your credit card and charge away. It’s disgusting how they are allowed to do this and then be all smug about it. Will never use them again in any country. Using the dollar car hire name but charged as hertz.

Hertz Ireland Ripoff

I arrived at the counter at 12:20am and was greeted with a small sign which stated a €30 “service” (translation BS bogus) fee will be added to the rental. This fee was not disclosed ANYWHERE previously. I showed proof of insurance coverage - including a letter from AMEX, but Hertz still insisted on charging me a CDW fee. Despite prepayment of the entire rental, I was charged an additional €105.53 when I returned the car.

Sound lads - Cavan Abú

Came to the rescue when I was stuck outside Hertz in Sallynoggin with a flat battery in my car. Totally unrelated to their business but they asked no questions and couldn't do enough for me.

Went above and beyond. truly grateful to the Cavan lad that came to the rescue! Fair play!

Desastrous experience - no refund!

My experience with Hertz has been extremely disappointing. I booked a rental car for August 2024 (Reservation K80622940A0) and paid in advance. On the day of pick-up, I waited at the Hertz counter for over three hours. The staff appeared overwhelmed, and no car was provided. I was forced to rent from another company to avoid further delays.

Despite reaching out multiple times—including sending a letter to Hertz’s Ireland office within 90 days—I’ve received no response or refund, even though their terms clearly state that only a no-show fee would be deducted. This lack of service and follow-through is unacceptable.

I strongly advise others to consider different rental providers.

Hertz - Kerry Airport

I am absolutely thrilled with the Hertz customer assistance I received at Kerry Airport. The staff are so polite, efficient and caring. I truly felt like I was getting the VIP treatment from the moment I entered the premises until I left. I would especially like to thank Mr. Coffey, the location manager for his outstanding attention to detail and ensuring I knew what I was renting, terms of the agreement and answering all my questions. I will definitely become a recurring customer. Thank you all.

Of course I will help, now what is the problem

after a late flight arrival, a bag theft and a booking made online via a third party, I was refused my booked car at the europcar desk because the credit card was not a physical one and europcar could not read cards assigned to the bank account digital app. I met a man at the Hertz Desk, and he patiently solved my problem but made it clear he was going to help. Mikey Geary is the sort of man you want to meet when you are tired, had a bad day and his helpfulness just made my day end on a positive note. He sorted the car, the card requirements and while he did his work to make it happen, he assured me that all would be fine and it was . This is the type of person who should be giving training courses and showing people how to calm by modelling calm. I hope Mikey is well appreciated as the ideal ambassador for Hertz

Claudio

I had a particularly unpleasant experience with Hertz at Dublin Airport, which almost caused me to miss my flight. When I arrived at the designated drop-off point, there was not a single member of staff there, so I waited for about 10 minutes without any instructions. Finally a staff member appeared, but instead of ensuring a smooth and professional check-in process, he was dismissive and uncommunicative.

To my shock, he falsely accused me of smoking in the vehicle and tried to impose a fine of €250 without any substantiated evidence. When I challenged this absurd claim, his answers were unspecific and unprofessional. He then abruptly walked away, slammed the car door and left me standing there without any decision.

Despite my urgent request to speak to the manager, he half-mouthedly tried to call someone and then inexplicably ran out of the office, leaving me completely speechless. I had to run through the airport to catch my flight and through the chaos of my personal belongings.

As a loyal Hertz customer, I am very disappointed with this unacceptable service. This experience has made me seriously consider using Hertz again in the future.

Check licence conditions!!

No mention of having to have a full licence for 2 years when I was booking, or in my confirmation email. Luckily I checked the FAQs beforehand and then rang. Said I needed to have full licence for 2 years and been driving for 6 (which I don't understand) and I'm over 25!

Never rent from Hertz Ireland

Never rent from Hertz Ireland or Thrifty (both run by the same company), especially if you are contacted by John Barry, Head of Sales for Hertz Ireland. I made a Thrifty reservation through Expedia. I was contacted by John Barry before my trip. Thrifty screwed up my reservation so John suggested I cancel my Expedia booking and book directly with Hertz at the airport. I did so and it ended up costing me $330 more because of Hertz's insurance requirements for foreigners. I have State Farm insurance at home. I asked for help from Hertz after the car was returned. Received a standard "the insurance rules are the rules" response. I have been a Hertz Gold member for 20+ years and have never had a problem. I had to leave the States to get bad customer service from Hertz. Sad!

Hertz Dublin is the worst rental company I have ever used

Hertz Dublin Booking Nightmare - Misleading Policies, Zero Accountability, and No Refund!

Booked a car with Hertz, expecting a smooth experience. What I got was a complete nightmare. Here’s what happened:

On October 25th, I showed up at Hertz Dublin, Baggot Street, ready to pick up my reserved car. I had my passport, driver’s license, and Revolut debit card, only to be told Revolut wasn’t accepted. When I asked why this isn’t made clear on their website, the agent showed me a WhatsApp message from his manager as “proof” and vaguely pointed to their terms and conditions, which don't specifically list restricted cards. But get this—the manager had already left early for the weekend. It wasn’t even 5 pm, and the one person who might be able to help was gone.

The agent told me if I took a taxi home, grabbed my Bank of Ireland debit card, and went to the Hertz at Dublin Airport, I’d “definitely” get my reserved car. So, after a wasted trip home, I headed to the airport with my card and reservation details.

At the airport, I explained the whole mess, including my age (26). Then the airport agent told me the car I reserved was only available for people 30+ years old. I was shocked—why didn’t the website flag this when I entered my age during the booking? I brought this up, and she just shrugged, saying they weren’t “responsible for the website.” She offered a much smaller car instead, which wasn’t what I’d booked or wanted.

When I asked to speak to the manager, some guy came over without introducing himself. I explained the situation again, and he flatly told me I couldn’t take the car I’d reserved. I said I wasn’t taking a smaller car, and he dismissively said, “Don’t take it, then,” and walked off without another word.

To make matters worse, the Hertz website was down, so I couldn’t even cancel. After THREE taxi trips—Baggot Street to my home, my home to the airport, and finally to Toyota Yuko, where I managed to book a car last minute—I was completely out of options.

Hertz not only wasted hours of my time, ruined my weekend plans, didn't give any refund/compensation and left me with unexpected taxi costs and they refused to take any accountability.

Will never book a car with them and don't recommend anyone to do so.

terrible

terrible. turned up at the desk in belfast city airport (it's hertz ireland there not UK - i checked). they refused to accept my credit card. couldn't explain why. couldn't help me at all. left stranded at 9pm and had to book through budget next door. way more expensive as a last minute in person booking! but accepted my credit card no hassle. used the same credit card with enterprise on a later booking with no issues. horrible company. they're refusing to refund me as they say they don't accept some bank's credit cards at their discretion (no signage, nothing on their website, nothing in the terms, etc.) 4 months later and still no money back plus i had to spent another £300 on another booking!

Dirty & damaged cars. Staff not interested

My recent experience at Hurtz Dublin airport is without a doubt the worst car hire experience I’ve ever had. The guy on the terminal desk was the rudest I’ve ever come across, charged us for perks that we should get for free as presidents circle status and then sent us down to a car that was filthy on the inside and covered with undocumented damage on the outside. Avoid this location at all costs.
