Ceiling collapsed. Halifax did not send an assessor, I had to pay someone to establish the cause of damage on their behalf. Took ages. Then they refused to accept the claim because ‘the damage was ca... See more

Poor excuse of an Insuarance provider
After a claim in 2023 & issues re work by contractors Halifax have just left me with all issues raised unresolved . I recently wrote a review on the innovation group which Halifax contracted to work on my claim , now think they’ve enlisted Halifax to pretend to be addressing my concerns .I’m getting text messages from Halifax claiming they’re looking into my complaints 2.5 years too late !!!! No action after all their ignoring emailed complaints, constant calls re poor work from Innovation group etc . They’re a pathetic excuse . Don’t get cover from Halifax they’re a total sham company!!!
How bad are they
How bad are they? So bad. I wouldn't touch this company again if my life depended on it. 38 mins on hold in all parts of the world, and finally spoke to someone who, having spent all that time waiting for, couldn't help me but could sell me another policy. The first person mis gendered me too.
Went with Halifax as felt it was…a large reputable company
Went with Halifax as felt it was important to be with a reputable company for such a vital policy. How wrong was I !!! the service has been appalling and the settlement offer an embarrassment. No communication without me chasing, avoid at all costs.
Snooping assessor
I had damage to my roof from a bad storm and high winds, they eventually sent an assessor round to look at it and refused the claim because they said it was wear and tear. The assessor wrote about a problem with a leak on my kitchen ceiling which I don't even have and he never went into the kitchen. He also reported back they I was self employed and they are asking me lots of questions about what I do at home and that my insurance may not be valid. I do have separate business insurance but at no point did he ask me about what I did or the insurance not being valid and I honesty feel like he was obviously snooping and prying into my private affairs. The roof damage has absolutely nothing to do with what i do for a living. I am very upset and feel like my privacy has been violated letting him into my home. I feel the insurance policy is a total waste of time
No better than Scammers
Paid premiums on home insurance for 5 years. Only claim I put in for storm damage this year. Company walked away and refused the claim. They are no better than scammers. Avoid at all costs as you are wasting your money. If I could give zero stars I would.
The human factor when making a claim is…
The human factor when making a claim is left out of the policy so the technical wording will be used to avoid payment to you
Avoid this big named, con of a company
You assume going with a known strong branded company would be the wise choice! you couldn't be any more wrong!! Avoid this sham of a company! will instruct arrogant, rude, poor time keeping third party contractors to pick fault with any claim . Like for like clearly isnt what you assume when taking out a product. Matching items is the one they get you on! absolute joke.
Shocking
We have been waiting over 4 months for a bathroom leak which destroyed our downstairs bathroom..the halifax staff are always lovely when you speak to them but apparently in our case, its the loss adjuster who should be completing the claim. We have sent emails , telephoned, left messages . Its an absolute disgrace to treat people like this, just leaving us in limbo. I cannot believe how bad the reviews are on this site. Would be interested to hear a halifax response
Don't turn up when they say they will
Don't turn up when they say they will. All done through sub-contractors. Disorganised and chaotic service. Do not recommend.
Less than one star!
If I could rate Halifax less than one star I would.
I received a Home insurance renewal letter on 4th January saying my insurance would automatically renew on 6th February unless I contacted them to cancel.
I renewed my insurance online but received absolutely no confirmation by email or post since then. The only thing I did see was that my monthly payments increased in line with the figures they quoted on their renewal notification.
I called them today to try to get my certificate of insurance, having first tried to chat/message Halifax online which was “not available.”
During my call the agent was quite dry and unfriendly and she stated that they do not issue a certificate of insurance. It appears Halifax want to push ALL customers to manage their insurance online and offer no obvious alternative if this is not the customer’s preference or if they cannot access their policy online.
I will make every effort to get a better rated insurance company at next renewal and only hope I do not have any claims or problems with my home during the current year as I have so far had an unsatisfactory experience and read from other reviews on Trustpilot that Halifax customer service is very poorly rated.

9 months ago we had a leak under our house. It’s still not fixed, and the company appointed by Halifax to do the repair don’t seem to think it’s their responsibility. Customer service basically shrug their shoulders. Horrified by the time this has taken, the lack of communication and customer support. Avoid this company at all costs.
Absolutely disgraceful
⁸No surprise the rating on here is so low. We are in our 5th week of our insurance claim after coming home from a holiday to water pouring through our bedroom and ceiling down, dropping into livingroom. Such a shock. The Home Emergency where awful wanted to come next day, we got our own plumber. Revival and Halifax keep going back and forth. Builder been but can't start until costings agreed. We are constantly chasing, awaiting complaints team to contact us. We had a visit from a Field Consultant who said he'd movevthings along, no contact for him, actually not sure why he came out. Its absolutely appalling. Do not take Halifax insurance. So disappointing and frustrating. I'll be on the phone yet again tomorrow. Can't see anyone coming this week. I am quite embarrassed 20 years ago I sold this policy in branch as it was one of the best, not now.
Week 6 now and just keeps getting worse. Guys removed my ceiling causing further damage and further delays.
Hopeless …
Rang Halifax Home Emergency as have leak from a pipe near the water tank and have no water, Hive is not working water came through ceiling. We were told as we didn’t know where exactly the problem is or coming from we have to call out a plumber first to find out what’s wrong!!! I have never in all my life heard such nonsense! Don’t touch them just don’t bother, call it emergency cover? It’s a joke! we pointed out we are not plumbers funnily enough hence opted for emergency cover.
New Customer - Appalling Service - Will NOT Renew! - ZERO STARS!
I'd give ZERO STARS, if it were possible! I inherited my parents house. Unfortunately, I chose Halifax Home Insurance! I'd been living here for less than 3 months, when my toilet blocked so badly, it flooded my garage. I couldn't use the shower or toilet, and had to "go" in a BUCKET!
On 23 February 2026, I called Halifax Home Insurance. I was told my call would be answered in "2 minutes." I was on hold for almost 2 HOURS, and was asked 16 TIMES what the call was about! It almost drove me insane! After 1 hour, the call dropped, and I had to phone back and go to the back of the queue. In the end, I hung-up, because it was past closing time. I have emergency cover for my electrics and plumbing, for all the good it did me!
My toilet remained blocked for 5 days, before finally clearing itself. Halifax Insurance Customers should be prepared to defaecate in a bucket and dump it in the garden, because you WON'T get any help from these clowns!
Halifax Home Insurance is a JOKE! I no longer trust them, and I will NOT be renewing.
Really, really disappointed and annoyed at the total lack of Customer Care! Go with Halifax at your peril!
Awful, awful, awful! ... Did I mention they were awful?
AFTER READING THE REVIEWS
AFTER READING THE REVIEWS, I WAS GOING TO CHANGE MY INSURERS AT THE END OF TERM. AFTER MY EXPERIENCE WITH HALIFAX, I WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE CANCELLING THE POLOCY . AFTER AN ESCAPE OF WATER CLAIM, I HAVE RECEIVED EXCELLENT SERVICE. THE PHONE WAS ANSWERED QUICKLY BY VERY PLEASANT AND KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF WHO DEALT WITH MY QUERYS VERY QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY WITHIN HOURS. THE CONTRACTORS THEY QUICKLY SENT IN WERE ALSO POLITE AND EFFICIENT . I WILL SUBMIT ANOTHER REVIEW WHEN THE WORK IS COMPLETE, BUT I AM NOT EXPECTING ANY PROBLEMS IF THE SAME SERVICE CONTINUES. ALL THE PEOPLE I HAVE DEALT WITH ARE A CREDIT TO THIER COMPANY.
Never Again
Never Again, Have best cover and honest causes to Claim, they reject on every basis
Dont even bother people.
Home Emergency Cover is a disgrace
Home Emergency Cover is an absolute disgrace. Suggested that despite my drain being completely blocked (meaning all toilets and sink were unusable, resulting in filth flowing across my hallway floor) that it was acceptable for me to wait until the next afternoon for a plumber. They said this was because they only worked with 2 or 3 contractors. Then, they gave me the option (not really a choice) of finding my own contractor, so I had to do all the phoning, legwork etc. They have now not come back to me about reimbursement within the promised timeframe, so I am out of pocket, having done most of their work for them, with terrible communication, and not providing a core part of the service. Disgusted.
Can never get through to the right people
Trying to get through on the phone is impossible and I cant do what I need to do online. Very, very annoying. On hold for ten minutes, then told I need to be transferred, again on hold for ten minutes and I give up.
Avoid this isurance
Avoid this isurance . Its a joke. Dont like to pay for genuing bath leack.my diabled parents are without a bath and showers for 8 weeks.
I am goibg leagle and reporting to fca.
Very poor servixe. And staff dobt log anything on system. One agent dont know ehat eas said on las call.. poor.

I live in Cornwall and after the recent storm in which we experienced 80mph winds we lost several roof tiles,we had a assessment from a appraiser appointed by Halifax who said the tile loss was due to us having moss on our roof . Absolutely unbelievable.
