What started out as a good experience resulted into an absolute farce. We were initially told the wait time was 5-6 weeks, and final payment would be taken 3 weeks before delivery. Of course HSL rang dead on 3 weeks before "supposed" delivery date and took the payment balance. We were then told it is not 5-6 weeks wait time, but 6-8 weeks and we were told we had been given the wrong information!!! We are now 8 weeks into waiting for the product and are being given all kinds of different excuses such as the item didn't pass Quality Control and we should have been told, and clearly never were. We are now 2 weeks before Christmas and it's looking very unlikely we will receive the chair. Bearing in mind we ordered this in October as this was a gift. We were made all kinds of promises by the showroom staff but in actual fact HSL didn't abide with any of their own deadlines. No-one ever contacted us about these delays. We had to do all the chasing ourselves. We were told before placing our order that this is a family business and they really care about their customers. Really? They only seemed to care until full payment was made. Then we had to do all the running around and chasing. Would I recommend HSL now? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!

*UPDATE* (19 Feb 2026):
Just to update my review from October. Still waiting for the goodwill gesture promised to us 4 months ago. Not the least bit interested now, but just another example of HSL over-promising and under-delivering!

The fact that it is battery means that we do not have wires from. The mains plug on the wall to the chair which could be a trip hazard.

From show room to delivery unbeatable service.

I am writing this review sat in my lovely riser recliner delivered this morning by two very helpful gentlemen. I was telephoned when they were on there way, and wen they arrived nothinng was too much trouble. Thankyou very much too the ladies in the Bth stre and the delivery team.

Julie and Sue met us at the doorway of the Bath shop and they couldn't have been more attentive. My very elderly mother felt very cared-for and appreciated the patience and time taken to help her chose a bed.
It's unusual nowadays to get that level of service

All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Their aim was that we made the right choice of furniture for ourselves, and it didn't matter how long it took, how many times we visited / emailed them or asked questions. Their advice and help were invaluable. We would certainly recommend HSL Chairs.

From our first visiting the Bath Odd Down showroom, we were impressed; we had Jenny’s undivided attention. Sue & Julia greeted us on our second visit on 21 June when we placed our order. Just having downsized after over 50 years in Yorkshire, it seemed very appropriate that most of the styles of chairs were named after Yorkshire towns! At no time were we pressured by sales staff, and the whole experience was very enjoyable. Jason & Ashley delivered our 2 seater reclining sofa today (15 August), and we are very satisfied. Communication with this company was excellent throughout. After sales care is impressive. Family values are clearly at the heart of this excellent company, whose staff are well trained, personable and clearly happy with their work. Congratulations one and all.

My husband had just had an operation and needed a chair quickly, I choose a chair with the 3 day delivery promise, there was a delay with delivery but the company worked with me to arrange a suitable time albeit later than promised.
The two delivery men were very good and even took their shoes off before entering the house.
Sue in the Bath shop was brilliant and couldn’t have been more helpful and kept in touch with me while I was waiting for the delivery.
The chair seems very comfortable for my husband and he is pleased with it.

Good information from the shop in Bathgate, west lothian, Scotland.. about the type ,size, and covering of the chairs. I chose a Hamilton swivel chair in leather and a walnut frame, (large size )
A bit disappointing with amount of padding in the arms back and seat. Not as comfortable as I thought it would be as I use it in the sitting room, that is why the 4 star the one in the shop was better..But ok for the price

Excellent Customer Service from start to finish. The work people who installed the corner sofa were polite & showed respect for the property. Efficient & practical.

We were seen by Julie, who made us feel welcome and was both knowledgable about the riser recliners and able to advise on the best ‘ fit’ for my husband’s height and needs.

Excellent service from the initial phone call to visiting the Bath shop where I selected my two seater settee. Would happily recommend HSL. Not a robot in sight!!!

Mine was a casual visit to the Bath showroom, just to browse and think about buying a recliner. I have recently moved to Bath and downsized to a smaller flat. My sofa is fine but my present 'comfy' chair is not so comfy any more... and it paled into redundancy against the excellence of the HSL range. Sue Wood is the manager of the Bath branch. Over the next 2 hours, on and off, we talked chairs and styles, comfort and specifics, until I virtually BEGGED her to order me the beautiful chair I simply did not want to leave. HSL do not use a commission basis for selling. Sue is an expert because she has been trained by HSL and has many years experience with them. She showed great interest in me as a customer and went out of her way to answer every question, but with absolutely no pressure. I felt like we were trying to match me with a chair I would love and enjoy for many many years. This is 'old-fashioned' excellence in Customer Service! I enjoyed the experience very much! So, thank you, Sue... and well done, HSL, for nurturing sales staff who love your beautiful chairs, sofas and beds and sell them with such joy.

We had already purchase a chair back in April the service is very friendly and helpful. So we decided to buy a other purchase of a foot stool. All the staff at HSL Bath we friendly and lovely Sue Julie.

Sales staff are very helpful and friendly makes an excellent experience. Delivery is very efficient also friendly and explained working of chair.

I took my reluctant husband to Bath showroom today for his new chair. Pleased to say Julie and Tammy were excellent and he will be getting his new Stressless chair on Wednesday morning. Brilliant service all round and special thanks to Julie who remembered me from last year when I had my new chair. I would highly recommend the service received at the Bath store, thank you

Sue and her college's at HSL bath were both professional and helpful with an in-depth knowledge of the product range made choosing our furniture a great experience.
