IATI – An insurer that abandons you when you need them the most.

We purchased a travel insurance policy with IATI believing we were protected, but when we needed them the most, they left us completely helpless and in an extreme situation.

During our trip to the Philippines, one of my friends fractured her wrist and needed urgent surgery as soon as we arrived back in Spain. Another girl in our group suffers from severe flight anxiety, which meant she couldn’t take responsibility for our injured friend or be left alone. We requested repatriation for the three of us, clearly explaining the medical and emotional situation of each person.

Despite all of this, IATI only agreed to repatriate two people, leaving me completely alone in a foreign country. I had to arrange everything on my own — from obtaining “fit to fly” certificates to securing an official document from a local doctor who explicitly stated that I needed to be the “guardian” or responsible party for both women: one with a broken wrist, and the other with anxiety, who I even had to take to the hospital after she suffered an attack triggered by the stress caused by the insurer’s total lack of support.

IATI’s response? They ignored the personalized medical report. They deemed it “invalid,” showing no empathy, no real assessment, no humanity. On top of that, the way they treated us was unacceptable: we were spoken to disrespectfully and with disdain on several occasions, even though we were simply asking for medical, emotional, and logistical assistance in a critical situation.

Our travel plans were, of course, completely cancelled due to everything that happened. During the days we had to stay behind to go to the hospital and deal with the paperwork, IATI provided no accommodation, no support, and no follow-up. They didn’t help us at all. They literally abandoned us.

In the end, we had to use our original flight tickets and return on our own, thanks only to our own efforts in obtaining all the necessary documentation. IATI did not assist us in any way — not with the arrangements, not with the logistics, not emotionally.

In summary: they failed us in every way. I will never purchase insurance from IATI again, and I will never recommend them. They are not a trustworthy insurer. If you have an emergency, you’ll be more alone than ever. They’re only there to sell you a policy, not to protect you.

A true insurance!

I have made this insurance several times and they have always been great. Fast responses and attentive workers. Also anytime I had an emergency (wherever in the world) they took care of it within an acceptable time to find me a doctor. Super recommended.

I assume that the positive opinions are from people who benefited in some way (paid review, discount...) or from lucky people who have not had to use the insurance. According to my experience, malpractice and dishonest practices. They put a lot of excuses as obstacles in your way. They delay the procedure to force you to give up. On top of it, they eveb lie to you to effectively make you give up on your efforts. If you are an average person without knowledge about regulation, you better not have an accident that forces you to claim a refund. In my particular case, I was getting dizzy with their excuses and nonsense... they offered me different amounts (€100, €150, €291), until they saw the wolf coming with my serious and justified threat to force me to go to court despite the reasonableness of my claim (something that 99% of people avoid because they are scared of the cost that involves a lawsuit), where protected by the law of civil procedure, they would lose their possibility of search, they would pay everything I claim from them plus the costs procedural (lawyer fees, judicial processes,...). And right at that moment... voilá..money appears and excuses are over.. magic? The damn €441 that I legitimately claimed appeared in my account. I invite you to read real opinions from people who have been forced to use the refund. They are from a horror movie.

Es graciosa la respuesta de IATI, que tras meses mareando la perdiz, se acabó dando cuenta de que no era el ciudadano medio lego en derecho sino con conocimientos y recursos economicos para afrontar una demanda judicial. Se cagaron de miedo, literal, y por eso pagaron... A esto se dedica IATI, a intentar buscar una excusa para negarte el pago de un interes legitimo tuyo. Os recomiendo encarecidamente usar otro seguro de viaje!!!!!!!!

A PAGAR!

I can't pay with my credit cards

I can't pay with my credit cards: Mastercard and Visa Revolut.
It's very stressful because after the payment is denied, I have to start filling everything out again.

This COMPANY is terrible

This COMPANY is terrible! This is NOT and insurance company. Avoid this at all cost. I am warning you! 😫 My partner has been using this company for YEARSSS. And now that he is hospitalised, They WOULD NOT help him. They asked so many documents which we provided but then they gave so many excuses not to help him with his insurance.

This is not an insurance!

This is not an insurance!! It is totally waist to by!!! Went for a yoga retreat, and I got sick. Did not get any refund for the cost for the retreat even if I could not attend.
They can not even receive a mail with the documents they ask for. You must split the mail and it goes to different people.
DO NOT BUY!!!

You have already consented to pay for the visa that I lost, and I sent you all the documents urgently. You can not find it in your system!! Then you refuse and say that I need to send you required documents again. Obviously you have no control over your system. Your answers gets weeks to get and one person doesn’t know what someone on else in your company have done, as if you want people to give up. If you purchase a trip for a yoga retreat and cannot participate due to illness, it is the same as not being able to complete the trip!! I bought one of your most comprehensive travel insurances and it’s waisted money!!

Good Insurance Company and Good Customer Service

Very good (online) insurance company which include the option for cruises. Their prices are very competitive. They give the option to include cancellation of the trip, but as usual this only includes some very drastic events. Their cancellation option is just for an amount of 1,500€ pp. This can be insufficient for many people. They should allow us to chose an amount and get a quote based on that.
On a previous cruise we had to activate the insurance and their customer service was very good. They have agreements with some doctors/clinics and if you can use them, you don't have to pay. In our case, we decided to use the medical facilities of the ship, we paid the bill and IATI reimbursed the full amount (converted from US$ to €), obviously after presenting the medical report and proof of the trip.

IATI a total SCAM!!??? be careful!

I had to cancel my trip to Pakistan due to illness. I had taken out IATI travel insurance because it was required for the group tour. I lost several thousand dollars because I had to cancel not only the flight but the entire all included tour, all together about $6000. I am DEVASTATED! I had purchased IATI trip cancellation coverage but they DO NOT respond to me.. It is insane.. 2 months and I am still waiting for my refund.. Please avoid this company it is a SCAM... BEWARE PLEASE!

From my experience - at least partially unreliable and poorly responsive

1. It is easy to buy IATI travel insurance.
2. No annoying requests for health records
However:
3. First occasion that I submitted to claim, when my flights were canceled, IATAI found a reason to reject!
4. My requests to reimburse me, or apply the policy to another trip, were rejected outright.
5. Another company refunded the policy to a colleague for the trip right away.
6. I received only a 10% discount on my next trip.

Response to IATI response: It has not convinced me. My coverage included IATI Standard + Cancellation. My flight was canceled inexplicably, and they - also inexplicably- refused compensating me.
