stay away or regret. 433,3€ refund, AS8518339

stay away! The positive opinions belong mostly to people (luckily for them) that never had any issue when travelling, or maybe paid reviews. Check the opinions from them that effectively needed an action from Iati. The company has been putting a lot of effort in marketing, with legions of influencers recommending their Insurance service. I was one of the stupids who has been travelling happily in the past, not knowing what would happen at the moment I could need a serious company backing me.
Now the facts: I sent them a 25 pages pdf document with all info that may be needed (around 30 image files -boarding passes, emails, bank receipts, bag tags, screenshots,..-) and along with the proofs, a comprehensive description of the issues that lead to expenses we had to afford due to long flight delay Spain-Vietnam. Did you heard any news from them? Neither do I. Still waiting after almost 1 month since I sent all the data. I promise to all of you that it can't be described more accurately and be simpler to understand. All this for a 433,3€ refund... On the other side, some friends that also made same trip than us, hired insurance service with MONDO, and they got it solved already. Keep it in mind. I checked and seems they are currently the way to go. Lower prices, better coverages thanks to wider amounts/risks and diligent management of any issues.
By the way, we also had a delay of 2 checked bags during , AS8525379. I think they didn't do much at all to help with the recovery, was just coincidence that both of them appeared. When the last arrived (21 days later), keylock was destroyed and some stuff stolen from the bag, I emailed Iati about how to proceed and never got an answer back.

It is a shame that I must waste my time writing this review in order to be taken seriously. If you care about peace of mind and your money, conduct with own diligence, check about real experiences of people that really needed Iati's services in the past and you will find out it is not worth the money. IATI does not pay claims

IATI does not pay claims. For something as simple as a claim for 138 Euros for flight delay expenses, IATI has asked me for more and more detailed backup documents in ever varying formats/programs over the past 2 1/2 months. They apparntly never look at the documents submitted before asking for them again. I am totally disgusted with IATI and would never trust them again

Fast and Not at all Furious Experience

The experience of buying an ensurance to IATI is super simple and quick. The feature to compare different ensurance covers is fantastic.

Although I must say that in all the times I have acquired ensurances from IATI, I am glad I never had to activate them. Meaning that in terms of ensurance activation and reimbursements I cannot give my opinion.

Unsatisfactory Refund Process

I recently encountered a challenging situation during a trip covered by IATI Insurance and sought assistance due to unexpected medical issues. Unfortunately, the process that followed regarding the refund request was incredibly frustrating.

Despite facing adverse conditions and having to seek urgent medical attention, the communication from IATI Insurance was unclear and the refund process was unnecessarily prolonged. The lack of transparency and delayed responses only added to the distress of the situation.

The financial impact was substantial, including additional expenses for emergency accommodations and the loss of booked flights due to unforeseen medical restrictions. Despite providing comprehensive documentation, the refund process has been unsatisfactory.

I believe that IATI Insurance should reconsider its approach to handling such incidents. A more efficient and empathetic customer service approach would greatly benefit travelers facing unexpected emergencies. As it stands, the disappointment with the handling of this incident by IATI Insurance remains unresolved.

IATI is a Waste of money and time

I have contacted this company more than 7 times trying to get my insurance in place as my flight was delayed and one of my bags was missing, they just replied that they will have a look and let me know. It is now a year from when I traveled and nothing has happened. It is a shame!!! I have sent emails, calls, and messages through WhatsApp and no one has given me an answer about my claim.

I didn't find how to reply to Iati's message below. So I have added my answer here. I asked Carolina if she received emails; she closed that email, which is why I was emailing from my email. and she received two emails. never several.

On the other hand I did not receive a single answer in my email. Until yesterday I received five in a row. I understand that you emailed her, but why not to me If I am in the insurance policy as well? I am planning to send all the documents hoping this time for a resolution. and I am happy to change my comments if gets resolved, so far I pay insurance for basically nothing.

Do not buy this insurance

Do not buy this insurance. It's cheap and nasty and they will obfuscate the policy conditions to avoid a payout.
If you use this insurance while already travelling, they will backdate the policy to when you left your home country, not the dates you buy the policy for (apparently the date you buy cover for is meaningless, according to these dopes). They will happily sell you the policy at the time and take your money.

pre-insurance info: Yemen, Sokotra

I intended to insure myself for a tourist trip to Sokotra, which is, however, a part of Yemen. I asked IATI (per www form, per e-mail) about if it is excluded from insurance by IATI. (Although it is possible to get an offer for insurance by IATI system for Yemen, it is in my opinion not at all sure that the country is covered.)
Nevertheless, I have not received yet any answer for such a simple question.

Don't use!

You should read the reviews of those who've had to utilize the insurance vs those who have not.

I submitted my reimbursement request June 7. It took several follow ups to even get a reply. They are still processing my request, two months later. I can't imagine how awful dealing with them would be if I had a larger medical emergency than just a sprained ankle.

Avoid avoid avoid.

it was the cheapest and fair condition although...

it was the cheapest and fair conditions for the traveler, I got the insurance certificate in Spanish and English but I only get the terms and conditions in Spanish, Is there any way you guys can send that info in English too?? thanks!

Here's my saga with IATI

Here's my saga with IATI. I let your decide after reading whether you still want to sign up with them.
Easy to buy but hard to get reimburse.

Fell off the bicycle while cycling and broke my ribs. Went to a nearby clinic for a medical investigation. Contacted IATI medical assistance via whatsapp. Message on whatsapp was in Spanish. Translated to English and it instructed me to call the hotline.
Called the hotline and relayed accident details to the agent. Was informed that they will contact their local in-country partner to provide assistance. Clinic medical cost was paid by me but was informed by IATI that I will be reimbursed.

Was contacted by the local in-country partner via email requesting my location. Was told that their partner hospital was about 60km away. They could not manage to get their local hospital partner on the phone and so were unable to send an ambulance to pick me up.

They told me to wait for their response for alternatives. After repeated emails to the local assistance and a phone call later was told to go to a nearby local government hospital. I had to bear the cost out of pocket and make a claim. After consulting with some local friends, I was advised not to go to the local government hospital. I called the local medical assistance back and said that I will find my own transport to their partner hospital. They said they will send the letter of payment guarantee to their partner hospital. With the help of the staff at the hotel I was able to find a taxi to send me 60km to the hospital. The whole process from the moment I called IATI to getting myself on the taxi was around 4 hours.

Reached the emergency department of the hospital around midnight. The whole process from medical investigation to warding took around 4 hours. Stayed 3 nights at the hospital for medical treatment. To be warded I had to pay a deposit of $1000 from my pocket even though a letter of payment guarantee was sent by the local partner to the hospital. Those were the hospital rules for international insurance companies.

Discharge on 1st July. Contacted IATI medical assistance via email for repatriation assistance. My spouse flew in to assist me. Was told by IATI that they could either buy me the flight ticket or I could buy it on my own and claim for reimbursement. Decided to buy the flight tickets on my own. However my spouse will not be covered for the flight tickets.

The reimbursements items were for the initial clinic visit, transport from the hotel to the hospital, hotel accommodation fees after discharge, transport from hotel to airport, flight ticket and transport from airport to home.

Received an email from IATI saying that I have not provided any official document issued by my bank stating my full name, account number, SWIFT code and bank address.

Send a reply back to explain that I have provided all details already in my email on 13/7. My local bank instructions for international money transfer are clearly stated on their website. There is no other official document that will be issued by my local bank to show the SWIFT details except on the website. Send them again my bank book and website link of my local bank instructions for international money transfer. I hope they will be convinced.

We have consulted with assistance and they indicate that the same day you requested assistance, the assistance was coordinated and authorisation paid on the same day was sent and you were visited by a doctor.
Regarding the flight expenses of your spouse, as indicated in the policy, it is covered if they are at least 5 days of hospitalisation.
On the other hand, Reimbursements confirms that all the expenses claimed (taxis, medical expenses, repatriation flight and hotel) were paid on 18 August. We regret this delay and will try to optimise this process for future occasions.
We would like to inform you that when an insured person requests assistance, he/she is always referred to the nearest and most appropriate medical centre or hospital, depending on the country and the area in which he/she is located. That is why you were referred to the hospital located 60Km away, as you indicated.
We are sorry that your perception of the medical care and reimbursement was not positive.

Positive experience

I contracted the travel insurance for my trip to Thailand. It had coverage of $90 for delayed luggage. My luggage was mishandled at the airport and did not arrive with me. I had to buy in Bangkok new toiletries and flip flops. The bags arrived only the next day. Submitted the claim to IATI. Sent them all the documents they requested. Today I have received the stipulated compensation as per the conditions of the contract. The whole process from the filing to the payout into my account took around 3 weeks.

Useless and time consuming for me

To process a reimbursement request they kept me for 3 months sending them docs in every possible digital format that I could only realise they were unable to open if I keep calling them by phone. They never contacted me back proactively. Once they were able to open the docs they refused to process the request any further because they required me another doc I don't own. Of course they didn't bother to let me know this, I only realised about it by spending my time and money by calling them again. A waste of time and money.

Reimbursement Approved, but never made

My son had to see a doctor during a trip, following a respiratory issue he developed. Despite the very low cost and having provided all the documents that they've requested and approved, I never saw the reimbursement. They told me multiple times "it was going to be made", but various emails and follow-ups later, they've never credited me. Not trustworthy. Had this been a serious problem/high expense, I'd have to hang with it on my own.
